Austrian family-run restaurant established in 1967.
This may bring back memories for old time hut peeps - One of the few original relics from the fire is back up in lights on Westbourne Grove! The hut will be shut for 2 weeks( 5th to 20th August) for our holidays so we’re back in full swing for September and the party season! So you have 3 nights to get your hut fix in before… Hope to see you soon! 🍻 🇦🇹 🎶
We are so sad to have had to say goodbye this week to Hansi Spendier, who first became part of the Hut family in the ‘70s, when he came down the stairs, met Josef, and made it his London place.
Please join us in raising a toast (ideally his favourite Austrian red wine in a unfathomably large wine glass) to his memory. His wit, spirit, and friendship will be greatly missed by all of us. Auf weidersehen Boyo. ‘Til we meet again ❤️

As we edge closer to opening, we wanted to thank you again for all your encouragement, here and at the Hut itself, where our site checks are punctuated by people nipping in to ask when it’ll be ready.
And on that progress: the interiors are on finishing touches, so over the coming weeks we’ll start showing you around…
Dust off your finest lederhosen; the Hut is nearly ready…
Two years ago today, a fire ravaged through the Hut, and we haven’t been able to open since; a fire and a pandemic and a flood are rather challenging obstacles to overcome, but endeavour to overcome them we are, and, as the sign on the door says, when we open, it’ll be with wild enthusiasm and, of course, the sound of much, much music.
Many of you will think of the Hut and immediately think of Josef, naturally. He opened it in 1967, was there every night to greet and to entertain in his inimitable way. He is at the beating heart of the Hut.
On this poignant day, the family would therefore like to thank you all for the gestures and kindness you’ve shown him since, all of which have been so hugely appreciated from the emails about how missed the Hut is to every message or phone call to him to say he isn’t forgotten, that people are thinking of him to each request for him to sing at someone’s birthday - we cannot begin to tell you how vitally important each of those have been for a man who saw his life’s work of 52 years go up in flames. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
And thanks especially to Aussie Mike, who saw how wounded the boarding up of the door to the Hut made Josef, and who decided to paint it cheerily for him.
Some of you may remember the story of how Eric Sanders came to frequent the Hut back in the 60s. He’s been a steadfast friend of the restaurant and family since, and his stories and robust sense of humour make him a joy to be around.
Here’s talking about his extraordinary life in parliament at the end of January.
As always, our diverse and fascinating community of customers is such a source of pride and we can’t wait to see you all out the other side of this pandemic.
Unearthed of our old business cards from the 1980’s. Sure a lot of people will recognise Sonja (Christine’s sister) and Ginger who ran the floor smoothly as a duo no matter how crazy busy it got - and it did! Steins flowing, bells ringing, smiling faces all round ❤️🎤🍺
A year ago today the fire devastated the tiroler hut and our hearts so in honour of the hut Joseph bought out a bottle of champagne from our 40th anniversary (fab photos from that night to follow) and tonight we’ll be raising a glass to our beloved home of 52 years and to everyone who supported us over the years, sung their hearts out, drank steins and schnapps in merriment, yodelled to lonely goatherd with Josef, devoured the delicious fondue and schnitzel and for being part of our extended family. We love and miss you all and thank you for your continuous support and messages ❤️🍾🇦🇹🎤
8 years ago, Josef had a kidney transplant. His son, Mark (whom many of you will know from the Hut), donated his kidney and in so doing changed Josef’s life.
Josef’s since taken immunosuppressants, and has had to be especially careful during lockdown.
Yesterday, the family surprised him with a social distance gathering.
This shot, with live music on the go, cigar in hand, smile tickling his face, summarises how much he’d missed the simple pleasure of seeing people in the flesh.
Till we meet again 🎷
For those of you who’ve been calling us asking how Ivo is in lockdown: here he is this weekend, dashing as ever, looking like he should be chilling out on a Greek island.
He was thrilled to be reunited with Michaela and some locals for a drink, and it was a firm reminder that one of the most special things to come out of the Hut was the friendships and sense of community. Ivo’s been inundated with phone calls offering support and a helping hand if needed since lockdown hit from regulars young and old, local and afar. It was so heartwarming to hear about ❤️💙
Today, Josef’s daughters made their first trip to 27 Westbourne Grove since lockdown began to see how progress on our home of 52 years is coming along. We promise we’re doing everything we can to reopen there as soon as we can!
