Our sample sale is full of perfect, never worn, one-offs that were all professionally made in London factories. When we tell you we spend a lot of time sampling pieces before production, this is what we're talking about. We don't produce things on a whim.⁠

Sometimes we'll pick a fabric, have it sampled in our chosen design, and then the factory will increase their prices because the fabric is hard to work with and we can no longer afford to use it. Other times, like the trousers in this picture, we'll sample, love them, and then the fabric is no longer available (this happens more than we care to talk about!). And sometimes the end product, whilst still gorgeous, isn't what we pictured for that point in time. Or, in the case of the green cape, it's exactly what we wanted, and you've just lucked out getting our cape at a discount 😉⁠

All of these pieces are part of our history. Each one has a story, and we're quite emotionally attached, but hoarding them for the sake of hoarding them doesn't align with our values, which is why we're putting them out into the world to find new homes where they'll be loved and worn.

This weekend we launched a sample sale including never seen before prints and fabrics, some redo’s of old favourites and, originals of favourites that have long since sold out. Did you know that this exclusive-to-us floral print is a true vintage design? Rowena bought it from an archive and then had it printed on machine-washable viscose.⁠

We fell in love with the print as it's floral without being too 'twee' and we adored the colours: white, orange, pink, and blue flowers on a beautiful green. Once we had chosen the print, we then had the difficult task of picking a fabric to print it on.⁠

Picking the fabric is difficult because there are so many factors. First of all, we had to find a fabric printing company that would even print in the 'small' quantities we wanted. We say 'small', we're still talking hundreds of metres, but it's nothing compared to big companies that order multiple thousands of metres 😅⁠

When we finally found a company that we liked and would work with us, we then had to think about what styles we wanted to make with this print (different designs require different types of fabric), test how the fabric options would wash and wear, see how the print looked on the fabric, and feel what it's like against the skin.⁠

We'd love to say it was our first choice, but our first choice ended up being discontinued. That was a lot of research and development out the window, and we had to start over, which at the time was stressful and costly, but in the end, it has all worked out wonderfully 🥰⁠

One of the reasons we chose this particular viscose over others was because it has an ever-so-subtle texture to it, which lends itself really well to the plain green background of the print. It also adds to the vintage look of the print, which we liked. It's also incredibly soft, and it has the most wonderful hang to it. It's perfect for our Piccadilly dress.⁠
