This client couldn’t wait for her worktop to be in before she started to use this very cute but also very practical walk-in pantry. My superstar joiner made this for her - along with some other useful storage in her home - and it’s sure to be a great place for a spare freezer, to house the Dyson hoover, store wine and baking ingredients

Sometimes clients get all-consumed with the idea of having a kitchen island as big as possible with a bar stool for every member of the family, but that just doesn’t always work in the space. The previous owners of this house had put in a kitchen with an island that had created several choke points in the room and was not at all user friendly. For the new owners, we set to work on a kitchen much more suited to the space and designed an unusual but very functional L-shaped peninsular. By not placing a hob or sink in the peninsular, the client now has more work surface than you would get with most large kitchen islands and the space flows brilliantly. We framed all the beautiful dark green cabinets throughout the kitchen in 25mm thick oak veneer panels which looks stunning overall and particularly makes the L shape of that peninsular into a special feature.

A busy week just gone by installing this soon to be beauty in Barnet. Sometimes it’s good to show the not so pretty bits and all the hard work, care and attention to detail that the installers give on the journey to getting those kitchens Instagram ready! This one in particular has required a lot of extra detailed work from my brilliant fitters due to the addition of a super glamorous walk in corner pantry with reeded glass doors. I can’t wait to share the finished kitchen photos

We have been hard at work the past few months completing several projects including this ultra modern kitchen which is part of a beautiful ground floor rear extension. It’s a gorgeous space with great flow and plenty of natural light. This handleless kitchen mixes pale grey gloss and concrete effect cabinetry with a raspberry glass backsplash and a delicately sparkled worktop to add some layers to the overall scheme

This kitchen has had quite the transformation. We knocked down the wall between the kitchen and dining room, altered the position of some doorways and added in some superb new glazing. This has all contributed to a magnificent open plan space with this pretty and practical kitchen at the heart of it

Every inch of the space in the recently completed Finchley project was carefully considered and utilised. This small nook in the kitchen became a walk in pantry area. While its arched opening and matching units to the kitchen make this a very pretty annexe, it also offers some invaluable extra worktop space and storage too.

Another view of the lovely and recently completed Finchley kitchen with its magnificent Arabescato marble worktop and backsplash. Such a gorgeous project to work on and the end result is something I am very proud of. This shot also shows the detail of the fabulous island joinery which was sourced from the very talented Ben at Chester & Morris.

I was a bit cautious about putting in a marble worktop in this family kitchen in Finchley just because it can require more upkeep than other stone surfaces. However my client had fallen in love with Arabescato marble and what an addition to the kitchen it has turned out to be! Expertly sourced and fabricated by the brilliant team at Granite Direct, this marble worktop, backsplash and floating shelf is nothing short of stunning and adds a huge wow factor to the entire space

Anyone else love it when the utensils match the tiles? I couldn’t resist showing this photo because the Orla Kiely pot holding the green utensils in the recently completed Finchley kitchen was the original inspiration for this whole kitchen renovation. If you don’t know where to begin, find just one thing that you love and then an entire scheme can often stem from that.

I bumped into my clients in the supermarket last week. We had a lovely chat and of course I was delighted to hear how much they are still enjoying their kitchen. They also told me they recently got married and had a wonderful family celebration in this beautiful open plan space. It’s very special to know that one of my kitchens has been the backdrop to such a joyous occasion.

Another view of the recently completed Finchley kitchen I photographed when I skived off school holiday childcare for a few hours last week! I was very happy I did it as I was treated like a Queen with tea, a thank you card and a bottle of Moët from my very thoughtful clients. I think this is probably one of my most dramatic renovation transformations to date so I am as thrilled with the end result as my clients are!

It’s back to school day today for one of my gang which means a return to work for me. I’m really looking forward to focussing on the projects I will be completing across autumn and winter. I did sneak off last week to take some photos of this lovely kitchen we have just completed this summer. This one is a simple white kitchen adorned with stunning green accents. The use of green is very calming and always a great way to bring the outdoors inside.

Anyone else loving the contemporary skinny shaker trend? Shaker kitchens are always popular but the super slim frame is a brilliant way to add a modern twist to what has always been a traditional style. I particularly like how it’s simplicity makes the more ornate features of this room such as that high ceiling and beautiful ceiling coving stand out

27/06/2023

Oh dear. Another photography sin committed. I didn’t remove the fridge magnets!!! My clients kids love to collect a fridge magnet whenever they visit a new country. Given that this is a family kitchen designed to reflect what they love and to be a warm and inviting place for friends and family, I think it is okay. In fact I think I might just leave on the fridge magnets always going forward

I’ve had some lovely feedback since posting a video of this beauty in Finchley a couple of weeks ago. I took way too many photos and it was impossible to take a bad one thanks to how bright and light the space is. This one was a favourite snap from my little shoot. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

A pretty view of our recently completed skinny shaker kitchen in Highgate. This one is in a smooth painted finish but it is also now available in oak and walnut. Real wood always looks beautiful and this cabinetry range is available in a classic style with handles or handleless to suit a modern or traditional scheme

22/05/2023

It was a fun week going back to two of my recent kitchen projects to take photos. I took a video of one of them and posted that yesterday but just took photos of this gorgeous one in Highgate. This kitchen is from my skinny shaker cabinetry range and it’s a nice modern twist on a traditional shaker door. The kitchen sits in the centre of a completely open plan ground floor space so needed to be impactful but still blend into the overall scheme. I hope you like it as much as I liked working on it

10/05/2023

Anyone else love a vibrant kitchen that packs a punch? This kitchen was the ideal size and shape to introduce lots of elements and layers. We included melamine woodgrain cabinetry and bold mix tiles on both the floor and backsplash along with black handles and accessories to create a visually exciting space

It seems oh so fitting to post an AGA kitchen after the weekend we all just had. Hope everyone had a great long weekend. We were glued to the TV for most of Saturday and enjoyed a street party on Sunday. An AGA has always been associated with the most quintessentially traditional homes but they have many modern variations available now including this Masterchef Deluxe model in an array of gorgeous colours that look great in any style of kitchen. We used the Salcombe Blue model in this kitchen and painted the inside of the glass wall units to match

29/04/2023

Happy long weekend everyone. Hope this sunny weather is here to stay. I’m going to try to take a break although we do have a number of projects going on including a couple of classic blue shaker kitchens which are still proving very popular. This blue shaker beauty was a lovely project to work on and my client did a great job adding modern touches to the classic scheme with her choice of furniture, lighting and a fab bamboo floor

27/04/2023

Such a nice project to be part of in Alexandra Palace. The kitchen is a traditional hand painted shaker kitchen in an open plan space which has so much light. The colour scheme flows into the garden giving a soothing botanical feel to the space. My client incorporated so many wonderful accessories and touches to create a truly gorgeous and inviting kitchen that is super practical too

09/04/2023

A monochrome scheme can be popular in modern kitchens but it also works in traditional styles too. The starkness is softened here by shaker cabinetry and the addition of a magnificent Bianca Eclipsia super white granite superbly mitred to create an extra thick island worktop with waterfall end panels.

29/03/2023

I do love a range cooker and this one from Rangemaster is a great choice. I find their cookers to be fairly priced with good customer service and the option to customise the ovens as we did here with the brass handles. The black oven is a great addition to this gorgeous kitchen comprising matt indigo cabinetry, brass handles and a stunning quartz worktop and backsplash.

20/03/2023

A waterfall quartz island end panel is a popular way to finish a kitchen island. It looks great and is also super practical to prevent any damage to a standard end panel. It also works especially well with smaller islands as it tricks the eye into seeing a workspace much larger than it actually is

04/03/2023

I’ve had a few enquiries lately for gloss kitchens which is a departure from the ever popular Farrow and Ball and Little Greene painted kitchens. Gloss can be a great cabinetry option for a modern kitchen. Light bounces off the mirror gloss range I supply and can work particularly well in spaces lacking natural light. Mirror gloss in a large kitchen such as this one can be a bit overpowering not to mention costly so breaking it up with some melamine units as seen here works really well

26/02/2023

A little taster shot of our recently completed Muswell Hill kitchen. Actually it isn’t completely finished as there are still a few small things to finish off with this renovation but I’ll be back to take some decent photos in the next few weeks. This kitchen is something a bit different with an L-shaped island and all of the painted units have been framed in real oak veneer panels so a great mix of the pretty and practical

24/02/2023

My lovely client wanted her kitchen in the city to be a place that would make her think she was cooking in her happy place in a Norfolk country kitchen. My client loves her kitchen so I think/hope we managed to bring a bit of Norfolk to London!

21/02/2023

One of my favourite kitchens. A popular combo of pale grey cabinetry and blue island or islands in this case! I loved working on this project and the finished kitchen is a beautiful example of a classic shaker kitchen with great storage and counter space. The blush pink accents finish the overall scheme perfectly.

20/02/2023

Happy Monday! A throwback shot of the pretty Friern Barnet shaker kitchen with the kitchen island painted in the magnificent shade Marine Blue by Little Greene. This photo was taken on the sunniest of days on my iPhone which is why there are so many shadows, but I still think the beauty of the kitchen shines through

18/02/2023

Dining room alcove storage doesn’t always have to be about displaying pretty things. They can also be a great place for practical storage when there isn’t space elsewhere. These tall built in units look fab and hide toys, cleaning products and a wall mounted charging hoover amongst other everyday items.

About

My love affair with kitchens began shortly after deciding to replace my kitchen in 2010. As I wasn’t working at that time and had just started a family, I had some time to spare and, to cut a long story short, became all-consumed by my kitchen project. Frankly, I managed to drive myself and everyone else around me a bit bonkers at times. This was my one shot at attaining my dream kitchen and I was determined to get it just right.

I went down the standard kitchen research route. I perused some interiors magazines, made a mood board, found a builder and asked lots of questions to anyone I knew who had installed a kitchen. I called umpteen showrooms plus all the DIY box stores and had two types of response. Either, they would measure up and then produce a design that just wasn’t right for me followed up by a million calls where they did the hard-sell on me. Or, they just didn’t bother calling me back at all.

I just couldn’t find the right design and I felt that what I needed wasn’t necessarily being heard. I did admittedly have a room that wasn’t a typical shape, but was this as good as it was going to get? I also couldn’t make head nor tail of the differences between all the brands and I couldn’t understand what the broad range of costs I was being quoted meant in terms of quality. Of course, I also kept changing my mind about what I wanted too which didn’t help matters. But, isn’t that just a gal’s prerogative when planning the most important room in the home?

After months of research and coupled with the help of a fantastic builder, I went off-piste and designed and sourced the kitchen myself. The result was pretty good for a novice. Soon after that, my Uncle, a friend of mine and then a friend of a friend asked me to do the same for them and so it went on from there. After I had designed four kitchens for family and friends and had actually started to comfort eat to fill the void between designing kitchen projects, I knew that it was time to turn my unusual addiction into my own business.
