One of the most popular dishes on our Dim Sum menu is Shanghai Soup Dumplings, also known as Xiaolongbao!
Originating from Nanxiang, a suburb of Shanghai, during the mid-19th century, these delicate dumplings were initially created as a street food snack. They gained popularity due to their unique preparation and delicious taste. The name “xiaolongbao” means “little basket bun” and what sets them apart from other dumplings is their signature broth.
This is achieved by adding gelatinised meat broth to the filling, which then melts during steaming, creating a soup inside the thin, doughy skin. The filling typically consists of minced pork, though variations with other ingredients are also popular!

Siu Mai, is a traditional Chinese dumpling said to originate from the Yuan dynasty (around 700 years ago). Its name translates to “cook and sell,” reflecting its roots as a popular street food. Siu Mai became a staple in Cantonese cuisine, particularly in the bustling teahouses along the Silk Road and over time, it has become a beloved dish, celebrated for its simplicity and versatility.

Today we’re starting off with one of our favourites- egg tarts, or “dan tat,” as they’re also known. They are a scrumptious Dim Sum treat with a rich history. Originating from Hong Kong in the early 20th century, these golden delights were inspired by English custard tarts and Portuguese pastel de nata.

🍳 Filling: A creamy, sweet custard made from eggs, sugar, and milk.
