Our Story

‘Richard Gelding Menswear’ was founded by Mr. Richard Gelding in 1976 on the current site in London’s Mayfair as an independent multi-brand retailer. In 2005, Richard retired and his successor David Moss – who stems from a long line of menswear retailers – took over and brought new life into the store with his vast retail experience and business knowledge.

In 2016, Richard Gelding joint efforts with Baltzar.com – already a well established online retailer through ‘Engelska Herr’ in Malmö, Sweden – to provide a wider range of brands and a “Click & Collect” service to the store. In 2017 Wilhelm Sturesson, one of the founders of Baltzar.com, became General Manager for the store and can now be found permanently in the London location.

Today, Richard Gelding focuses on traditional Italian tailoring and luxury casual wear with an English subtlety, and stocks many niche brands hard to come by anywhere else. Our in-house tailor will make sure you get the fit you want in no-time. There are also a number of Made-to-Messure services provided for some of the brands including Canali and Eton, with an expansion to come for the in-house ‘Balzar Sartorial’ MTM-programme.

Some of the brands supplied are Baldassari, The Bespoke Dudes Eyewear, Canali, Caruso, Eton, Frank Clegg, Herno, Lardini, Luciano Barbera, Mazzarelli, PT01, Ring Jacket, Schneider, Stenströms and Sunspel. It is a curated selection of some of the absolut best specialist-brands in the world, and a list that always expands.
