Founded in 2016, Montague Ede is a modern bespoke tailor with a traditional background. We are Savil We are Savile Row trained and established.
Our showroom and cutting boards are just a stone’s throw away (across Regent Street) from our team of Savile Row based craftsmen who hand tailor all of our clothing. Each person that works on your suit, be it a coat maker, finisher or presser has been trained following a traditional and lengthy Row apprenticeship and brings with them unparalleled skills, ensuring that we only cut and produce the v
It's always an honour to be trusted with a client's wedding suit and we love to see them in action - this contrast dinner jacket and trousers were just the thing for this Sicilian wedding!
We're very excited to announce we will be visiting the USA again for our next trunk show this May!
We have some remaining appointments on the 30th and 31st, please contact us at [email protected] to book in.
It’s that time of year again…!
Esther applying silk braid to a Morning Coat in anticipation of Ascot. A Morning Suit is a wonderful investment, as the fashion hasn’t changed in the last 100+ years, and can be easily updated with a new waistcoat or a fresh pair of strides 👖
A few of this week's latest fittings at our Hanover Street workshop!
That time of year again…morning coat season is starting!
Some Monday morning optimism for you. These were given to me (Antonia) on my 21st birthday by my housemate at college ( this one is on you!). Gold spray painted scissors, and attached post it. Little did I know at 21 that by the time I dug them out again last night, rummaging under my cutting board at home, that I would never go on to enter the Golden Shears competition but would have been asked to be a judge for it. Twice. Aim high, work hard was the reason 21 year old me hung on to these. So here you go: a 2023 reminder to do so!
A delicious number from that went out last week, with matching plus 4’s. Suede trim on the below pockets taking it to the next level!
On the board this morning: a stunning checked suiting- you can’t hugely see it here, but this is a one-way-one-way check (rolling), with a very subtle double stripe in the check. Delicious!
How it all starts: people think we are fibbing when you say ‘it all starts with a sheet of paper and a pencil’ but here you go. No computers or laser cutters. Bespoke tailoring is about using your eyes, a series of equations and an understanding of the human form. All our bespoke pieces are cut from scratch, each client getting their own pattern. This pattern is then kept on file, and tweaked every time a new fitting happens. It takes time, patience and mental arithmetic, something which new cutters are often surprised by!
It’s been so completely flat out recently, this space has been a bit neglected, so sorry! Flying out of the shop last week was this delicious sea green basketweave, with patch pockets, a patch ticket pocket and contrast twist buttonholes. Perfect for ‘fall’ in Georgia 🇺🇸
WOOL WEEK! The amazing works every year to highlight and educate this extraordinary material. As we use predominantly cloth woven in the uk, we are wool-obsessed: this magic textile has the ability to cool, heat, be thick and fluffy yet also sleek and elegant. We use it for everything from Dinner Suits (barathea pictured here) to loud tweed plus 4’s. As fabrics go, it is biodegradable, sustainable and ethical. Viva la wool!
Sorry for the radio silence, but we’ve been rather busy moving floors! Same building, fresh new look. We can’t wait to show it to you!
New York, we’re coming back! From the 10-12th of October. VERY exciting to be travelling once again! To book an appointment, just email: [email protected] 🇺🇸
What to do with excess hand-printed silk? Make hand-rolled pocket squares! Utterly delicious, the perfect present for a discerning gent. Coming to our website soon.
Little. Details. Count! Little cuff tweaks on a wedding suit headed to the South of France. One of the best parts of our job is getting to use our technical knowledge with your creativity to come up with something unique 🧵🪡
Well we missed the glorious twelfth, BUT here is some delicious tartan on the board today regardless. We’re now back from our summer break, so don’t hesitate to get in touch before the September rush and sort out your winter wardrobe with plenty of time to spare!
Is there anything more satisfying than a fresh piece of Japanese chalk? Deliciously crisp mark making on the board today, suiting 👌
Staying as cool as we can in this heat, with little numbers like this linen… utterly delicious chocolate brown and cream, buggy lined heaven!
Midnight blue, shawl lapelled, VERY chic. Cut in a mid weight barathea for three season wearing 👌
That blissful moment when you find notes left to yourself on the best lay for that particular clients pattern…
Cutters lays are one of the first things you’re taught when striking, and allow for maximum efficiency with cloth. All our jobs are still cut one way, meaning no shading on different panels of the suit!
ACTUAL trews. Whenever someone asks for tartan trews, always check if they mean *actual* trews, rather than just tartan trousers. Proper trews don’t have a side seam: each leg is made up of one piece of cloth. Tricky to cut, even trickier to make, as 90% of the shape is in shrinking and stretching the cloth…
I adored talking to Reza, thanks for making time for me! Full interview available through link in bio ☝🏻
A weekend of amazing weddings! Huge congrats to all four couples wearing Montague Ede this weekend ♥️
With this weekend marking the first big weekend of post-covid weddings, we have all sorts going out in time: from linen jackets for Italian celebrations, to Morning Suits destined for an English marquee. Still haven’t got organised for your wedding? Get in touch! [email protected]
That ‘fresh-piece-of-Japanese-chalk’ feeling on the board this morning. Seriously crisp lines! Rich green velvet being struck in 😌
On Thursday, Savile Row heartbreakingly lost one of it’s snappiest cutters, far too young. Stuart was my first boss and mentor, and taught me how to run a business. Montague Ede wouldn’t be here today if it hadn’t been for him. He’d never had a female apprentice, and used to call me Tony which drove me mad. From changing his outfit halfway through the day (depending on the client coming in), so running up from the basement cutting rooms at 14 Savile Row, shouting ‘showtime!’, I have a wealth of extraordinary, hilarious and timeless memories of our time working together, and I will miss him enormously. I still subconsciously use his patter when talking to clients and carrying out fittings, and I hope that I pass those phrases and nuances on too one day. Stuart was adored by the trade and his clients, and I know he will be unbelievably missed by both, as well as by his family and wonderful wife Camilla, who can be credited with making him grin, and keeping his chin up for the last few years. Wherever Stuart is now, you can be sure it’s in a beautifully cut ‘three season’ black three piece suit, teaching them all how to dress.
A very rare ‘in action’ shot of a fitting for our client Ricky’s wedding suit! All our garments are cut by hand in house, using the same technique used by cutters for the last 100+ years. Add to that our clients style and taste, and you have a completely unique garment built to last 💪
Something flashy…. As the world starts opening up again, little numbers like this velvet evening jacket start to come into their own. Silk satin facings and covered buttons, it is both timeless and elegant. Thank god for dressing up again!
A fabulous green number - perfect for spring weather like today! This is a lambswool barleycorn, and is absurdly soft while still holding a lovely shape…
A little something being fitted later today that was cut back in January. A lot of panels, a lot of pizazz…. Watch this space for the finished garment, we can’t wait!
