This past November, Gabbitas attended the British Boarding Schools Network’s workshop. We had the privilege of meeting and connecting with our expanding schools’ network to better equip them with tools to engage with international pupils.

It was an insightful event, meeting headmasters and reps from our schools network and our industry partners – relaying our advice and our expertise to a wide range of international student issues and goals.

Gabbitas’ heritage carries a cornerstone of educational expertise within independent education. Within these walls, students and families have paved their future with guidance from some of the most senior expert tutors in British history.

In this series we explore some of the most notable names of the Gabbitas Family. This month we remember Baron Taverne. Taverne was one of the most prominent UK politicians from the 1960s to the 1980s. He was one of a small number of British House of Commons’ members who was not a candidate of a major party. After being placed by Gabbitas as a teacher in 1952, he was elected the Labour Party member of parliament for Lincoln ten years later, working as Home Office Minister and Financial Secretary to the Treasury until 1970. But as his views further detached him from Labour, he set up the Lincoln Democratic Association before joining the Social Democratic Party – who went onto merge into the Liberal Democrats.

Since 1873, Gabbitas has tutored a wide range of students – from the young Harry Potter actors to European royalty, with the help of expert tutors.
