GOOD DESIGN
Interior Design:
The key design theme is the mix of authentic vintage and contemporary British craft furniture to complement the late Art Deco building which houses the hotel.
A serious collection of pre-war and post-war vintage British craft furniture has been assembled and carefully curated by the hotel’s founder Kurt Bredenbeck, telling a story of British artistry and craftsmanship.

BUILDING & ACTIVATION
THE PROJECT
Our in-house design team lovingly restored the striking late Art Deco building – originally constructed in 1935 for The North Metropolitan Power and Electric Company.
(Prior to occupation by Green Rooms, the building had been extensively stripped out to its core shell structure with no internal partitions, no central heating and no gas connection. )
During the renovation, Green Rooms spent approx. £600,000 on the basic structure of the building:
• Extensive partitioning to create 26 bedrooms, some with en-suite bathrooms
• Restore the existing 1930’s lavatories to include showers
• Install central heating and lighting and new up-to-date electrical fixtures and wiring
Priorities during the refurbishment programme:
• Work with the exiting architecture of the building
• Ensure the history of the building is highlighted and respected
• Revealed, preserved and protected original features and details at all costs
• Contrast original details with all contemporary interventions
Key Architectural Features and Interventions
Minimal detailing and a stripped-back aesthetic has been employed throughout the spaces giving a rustic and unpretentious atmosphere to the venue.
• Original mosaic tiling
• Retained the original large windows
• The building’s original industrial iron beam structure has been left exposed and worked into the overall design environment.
• The stunning third floor has been retained and refurbished as a gallery and bar
• Restoration of imposing skylight that was originally hidden away by a suspended ceiling

RESTAURANT INCUBATOR
How many Green Rooms’ pop-up kitchens can you name?
Our restaurant pop-ups serve as a launch pad to young chefs. Whilst they work towards the creation and ownership of their own restaurant business, they receive business support and are provided with a rent free and fully equipped kitchen and restaurant space.
We are looking back at the restaurant pop-ups we hosted since we opened in March 2016.
Major culinary journey check points were:
- Columbian Street Kitchen, our first pop-up by Medellin-born Wood Green resident Esteban Arboleda
- Pop’s Kitchen by Marie Mitchell
- 2 Fingers by Rick Panesar
- Gina Lely’s Hanoi Ca Phe
- I should be Souvlaki by Chris Caudle
- Dan Fazzina’s BISTECCA E PANE by
- Tokunbo’s Kitchen by Tokunbo Koiki
- Oita Kitchen launched by Fan Yi in July 2018 and is still going strong and very popular with Wood Green residents.

PLACEMAKING
The launch of Green Rooms has contributed directly to a feel-good factor in Wood Green. Many of the hotels’ regular customers eulogise about how Green Rooms has helped change their perception of Wood Green and the way they feel about the area.
Green Rooms has made a substantive impact on the cultural environment in the local Wood Green and Haringey area. From a building that was disused and empty, Green Rooms’ team has created a successful, thriving real ‘place’ that is visited and enjoyed by hundreds of guests each day, including many local area residents and a host of arts-related or arts-interested individuals from around London and around the world.
How did we do it?
• Arts-led regeneration in Wood Green by creating an event and cultural space
• Creation of a destination and vibrant 24-hour community
• Helping to bring in visitors to the borough from across London and further afield
• Night-time presence near Wood Green tube station and High Road
• People socialize in the Lobby, Bar and Restaurant and attend events
• Place for family occasions and celebrations
• Encourage collaborations and sharings amongst guests and community of freelancers that use the lobby area as their CoWorking space
• Space provided for local artists and crafts to display and sell their works
• Partnerships with local businesses and organisations
• Free events for locals and the creative community to attend

GREEN ROOMS THROUGH THE PANDEMIC
In partnership with Haringey Council we have been welcoming vulnerable people and people who experience homelessness since the start of the pandemic in 2020.
Green Rooms provides its guests with more than just a temporary home. Many residents commented that stability of staff, compassion and a sincere interest in their stories have made their stay at Green Rooms so valuable.
We have recently met up with Alison Charles, Complex Needs Outreach Navigator/ Haringey Council based at Green Rooms. She said:
"To date we have accommodated around 90 individuals. For some this has been a lifeline and a bridge to understanding the nature of support that is available in order to move into and sustain accommodation of their own.
The Green Rooms staff and management have been diligent and enthusiastic to learn more about how to support people experiencing homelessness, without them this would have been a much poorer experience. There have been times that have been extremely challenging, and they have always been willing to stretch themselves and provide a supportive environment.
There are myriad reasons for homelessness, and some people have been able to move into accommodation, others needing the space to recover, eat well and rest, before they are in a position to think about their next steps.
The Green Rooms has truly been an asset to the individuals we are supporting.”

Dear friends,
Back in April 2020, during the first lockdown, we worked with Haringey Council to provide accommodation to homeless and vulnerable people. We received lots of help from all of you, and our gratitude for the love and support received from our community is immense.
Like most of hospitality businesses and small social enterprises around the UK, this global crisis left us and many others struggling. We cannot turn our backs to people in need though, and with the second lockdown approaching last month we decided to double our efforts at Green Rooms Hotel now offering our entire accommodation space to house local homeless and vulnerable people, playing our part in ensuring everyone gets the care and support they need during these unprecedented times.
We have agreed to house the homeless until March 2021, ensuring some of the most vulnerable people in society are looked after and provide the relevant support and services required - we need your help in raising funds to allow us to achieve this important goal.
No matter how big or small your donation, we will be extremely grateful to everyone who will participate helping us raising funds to ensure our guests will be safe and nurtured. Hospitality is our core business, this is what we do best and in these challenging times Green Rooms has, and will continue to do all it can to help.
By donating you will help us to keep doing our best in supporting London during these unsettling and unprecedented times.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Green Rooms
Green Rooms is London’s first and leading “arts hotel”. An affordable hotel designed principally for creative types visiting and working in London.
We focus on what cash-strapped visitors to the capital really want: A comfy bed, a decent shower, good coffee and fast free WiFi. As well as that, our chic, minimal rooms are nice neutral spaces for creative professionals to work.
We also have a restaurant and lobby bar open to the public every day. Currently we are the proud home of Oita’s Kitchen - Wood Green new favourite Japanese kitchen, opened in July 2018 and running from 12 until 9 pm, from lunch to dinner!. We also serve hot drinks and homemade cakes in our cafe during the day, as well as our Breakfast club, from 8 until 11 am.
Green Rooms is also a creative centre, working with some of London's leading cultural institutions, such as Almeida Theatre, New Diorama and The Other Art Fair. We partner with creative institutions so that our hotel is buzzing with arty guests and the place becomes a “social enterprise”. Green Rooms encourages diverse and curious guests to engage in an exciting programme of exhibitions (there is a top floor gallery space), performance and arts-related launch events.
However, we do not actively encourage guests to interact. We leave everybody in peace to relax!
We host art exhibitions, have a monthly comedy club, DJs on the weekends (only until 11pm) cocktails masterclasses and creative workshops!
