- Biomedical Catalyst 2024 Round 1 is an industry-led R&D competition which will support SMEs to develop innovative solutions to address health and healthcare challenges. Innovate UK is offering businesses a share of up to £15 million funding for their innovation projects.

- The ATI Programme funds projects with a potential application within the civil aerospace sector, including dual use technologies. Its latest strategic batch grant funding competition is now open for Expressions of Interest applications. Companies successful at this stage will be invited to submit a full stage application for grant funding.

Is your business up to speed with the changes to the R&D tax relief schemes?

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1st April 2024 the RDEC and SME schemes have been merged and a separate scheme for loss-making R&D Intensive SMEs has been introduced. The latter, known as the ERIS (Enhanced R&D Intensive Support) Scheme offers an enhanced rate for businesses who meet qualifying criteria.

Two new innovation grant funding competitions have launched this week:

Digital Twin Energy Grids is a new grant funding competition from Innovate UK. It will fund UK registered businesses undertaking collaborative projects that enable digital twins, data interoperability and cyber resilience in the UK energy networks. A share of up to £1.2 million is available.

Smart Shipping Acceleration Fund is a grant from the Department of Transport with a pot of up to £8 million available. The aim of this competition is to fund detailed feasibility studies for innovative technology demonstrations of scalable smart shipping technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.

New grant funding competitions launched in the last week:

International Green Corridors Fund: UK – IE Feasibility Studies – UK registered organisations and Irish organisations can apply for a share of up to a combined total of £860,000 (EUR 1 million) for joint R&D projects focused on UK and IE Green Shipping Corridor routes.

UK-Taiwan CRD 2024 – a total fund of up to £5 million is being made available for the purpose of developing innovative proposals with Taiwan. UK businesses must collaborate with at least one Taiwan business applying under the equivalent DoIT programme.

Automotive Transformation Fund Feasibility Studies: Round 5 – this competition is for business case feasibility studies to support scale up of the UK’s zero emission automotive supply chain. Proposals from single organisations or consortiums up to the grant value between £200,000 and £500,000 are being sought. A total funding pot of up to £2 million is available.
