Valeu is super excited about our busy few weeks ahead!! First our leaders hit the road to deliver an epic day of samba groove workshops with National Schools Symphony Orchestra this Thurs! THEN on Sat 16th, after 4yrs of delays, our community group will finally showcase their work at the big local summer festival, People's Day, Mountsfield Park, at 1.30, and again at 5.30 for a massive collaborative project!! AND THEN we complete our summer program with our final performance at Corbfest (The Corbett Residents' Association), Sat 23rd at Abbots Hall (timings tbc)!!

We value bringing a variety of rhythm and music to our students and this summer we welcome Lauren Baker and the fabulous Valeu Brazilian Arts to bring the colours of Brazil to the Malvern Hills.

Valeu Brazilian Arts strives to enable individuals within a workshop setting to experience and explore the buzzing energy and dazzling world of samba, initially focussing on drumming, dance and costume. It was set up with the sole aim to educate anyone and everyone about the authentic world of Brazil’s carnival culture.

Very sad news! RIP Elza, a true samba legend. Had the great pleasure of seeing her sing at Mocidade in 2007 when I reconnected the Madrinha relationship for LSS! That was a truly amazing night! She was an unexpected surprise, and it was my first time in a Rio Quadra!!! I didn’t know how lucky I was # # #

Darling Elza… what a life…what a legacy… adored by the world of music. I got to work with her on the Sonzeira project in 2014 …. what a privilege…. Her version of ‘Aquarela de Brasil’ on the album is still the most pure moment of music I’ve been present at. She was 91 and survived all the eras.
Discovered in a talent show by Ary Barroso in the 50’s, she introduced scatting to Brazil, was married to legendary footballer Garrincha and released over 30 albums in every decade since the sixties! She finally gained the recognition to put her up there alongside Elis Regina and Gal Costa …. Great memories of her with at the Barbican …. long live the music of the undisputed Queen of Samba RIP Elza Soares
