Spencer Jones starts the first part of his first ever national tour on Sunday 15th September in Manchester. Tickets are selling well and everyone is going to have a lovely time. But he hasn’t done this show in a while, so when someone on twitter suggested he does a warm up gig at The Star pub in Plumstead for the locals he thought that's a very good Idea. So we are doing it.

This weekend sees the return of Open Studios, we have three local artists showing their work at The Star. L. A. Colella will be with us both days working on some new pieces. Katy Harrison will be with us both days 12.00-15.00 working on a new piece and to take any questions and Stuart Lee.

In our Function Room upstairs we have L. A. Colella – Gesture and movement to the rhythm and melody pour intense energy into my mark making which ultimately create a convincing expression. Raw immediate emotion form musical influence, constructed by various means with my favourite mediums being pastel, charcoal, pencil and graphite.

In our Public Bar we have Katy Harrison – I have a passion for animals and have been creating pet and wildlife are for over ten years. I use either professional quality pencils to create highly detailed, realistic portraits, or make illustrative portraits using paper cutting and collage techniques. From beloved pets to beautiful wildlife, I take pride in capturing not just a likeness, but also something of the character of the subject.

In our Saloon Bar we have Stuart Lee – Mixed media artist, my creations are predominantly based on self-preservation and social commentary told through the lens of symbolism and surrealism with some abstract tendencies. I utilise as wide variety of mediums to create my work with ink and acrylic paint (and spray) as my preference.

New Summer Sunday Menu!!!!

We are pausing our traditional Sunday roasts for the months of July and August but introducing our new lighter options to share. Don’t worry, traditional roasts will be back in September.

First up we have Florentine Steak with chimichurri dressing, served with roasted garlic and rosemary potatoes, roasted cherry tomatoes and a rocket and parmesan salad with balsamic dressing.

If that doesn’t take your fancy, we have Chicken Milanese, served with roasted garlic and rosemary potatoes, roasted cherry tomatoes and a rocket and parmesan salad with balsamic dressing.

Last but not least for the vegetarian and vegans amongst us we have a whole roasted cauliflower that has been marinated in harissa and shawarma spices, topped with green goddess dressing and pomegranate seeds. This is served with roasted garlic and rosemary potatoes, rocket and a chickpea salad.

Our regular menu will also be available on Sundays through July and August.

International award-winning singer-songwriter and producer Dan Olsen hails from the cold and wet yet exotic far-flung Faroe Islands. For the past five years, he's been based in London, U.K.

Although starting out with classical guitar playing at the age of 12. He moved to Australia's East Coast to finish his university degree. In the weekends he started performing live music and simultaneously started writing songs. After graduation, he took the jump to do music full-time in Sydney before moving to London, U.K.

Here Dan got in touch with London-based producer Steven A. Williams (Leonard Cohen, Van Morrison). With some songs in his luggage, Dan invested his hard-earned savings and sought out renowned producer Steven A. Williams (Leonard Cohen, Van Morrison) to produce two tracks incl. Here With Me (written on a balcony in Sydney) which soon garnered over a million streams on Spotify and was featured in playlists such as "Viral 50 - Singapore". At a London gig, Dan met his manager-to-be (Sam Smith's former manager) who shared Dan's vision. Things began to take off.

Dan produces his own songs now. He's toured all over the world including China (three times), New York, Russia, and South Africa. He's won Best Song in an international songwriting competition and has since co-written with multiple award-winning songwriters and producers including Grammy, Brit, and Ivor Novello award winners such as Linda Perry (Pink, Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus), Matt Lawrence (Mumford & Sons), Chris Neil (Rod Stewart, Celine Dion), Pam Sheyne (Christina Aguilera, Lindsay Lohan), Rob Davis (Kylie Minogue, MIKA) and Sonique. Some of Dan's songs are placed in films.

Comedy is back at The Star for the first one of the year!

Join us for a night of LOL'ing, ROFL'ing but hopefully no PMSL'ing. We have a host of fantastic acts to entertain you for what will be an hilarious night!

Your MC for the evening is local boy Tom Toal.

Openign the show we have Kate Martin, at 6ft 1, with the longest wingspan in comedy (*probably), Kate’s a naturally engaging, energetic performer with effortlessly tight gags to match. Her unique background in mental health has given her a fresh take on the world, a completely distinctive voice, and fuels her high energy storytelling, whip-smart punchlines and razor-sharp observations of life's quirks through q***r eyes. (finalist Funny Women Stage Awards 2022)

Closing the show we have Michael Akadiri, the multi award-winning stand up comedian and junior doctor who has been seen on the ITV2s Stand Up Sketch Show, BBCs New Comedy Award & has recently starred in the latest series of Comedy Central Live. His sold out debut Edinburgh Fringe show, No Scrubs was nominated for NextUp’s inaugural Biggest Award in Comedy.

This Sunday, Christmas Eve our kitchen will be open for pizza, pasta, and our plates menu until 21.00. We are pausing the Sunday Roasts until 7th January.

This Christmas Day we are opening up from 12.00-15.00 for drinks. Come down and join us for a few while the turkey is in the oven. The kids area will be open upstairs, everyone welcome including dogs.

Yes, that's right, we are bringing back everyone's favourite Aprés Ski menu from Friday 10th November. Aprés Ski will be served every Friday to Sunday until the end of January.

We have:

Join us for the last Monthly Comedy of the year. We have a great line up to end the year on. Taking our hand and guiding us though it we have our host Tom Toal.

Kicking things off we have Peter Rethinasamy. Born and raised in Belfast to a Malaysian father and Irish mother, Peter is a comedian with hard hitting, punchy jokes and hilarious tales of growing up in Northern Ireland.

Since he started performing stand up, he has reached the semi-finals of the Laughing Horse New Act Competition and won the London Comedy Store’s King Gong Competition. He is also resident MC at Fulham Comedy Club and cementing himself as a must-see act on the circuit.

Headlining we have the hilarious Jack Skipper, hailing from South London, boasts a multifaceted career as a stand-up comedian, podcaster, and video producer. His journey from being a carpet fitter without formal qualifications to full-time comedian is testament to his undeniable talent.

Crafting relatable narratives about family life and offering insights into the experiences of working-class individuals, Jack has endeared himself to audiences far and wide. His everyman persona has propelled him to reaching the finals of prestigious comedy competitions such as So You Think You’re Funny? and the Komedia New Act competition.

Jack’s charismatic presence extends to the digital realm, where he has amassed a substantial following on social media platforms. On TikTok alone, he boasts an impressive 13 million likes, while his Instagram boasts over 200,000 devoted followers. On TV, his appearances include the Stand Up Sketch Show (ITV2).
