This lizard was caught on camera apparently strumming a leaf to its heart's content. The forest dragon lizard was spotted in the unusual pose by professional photographer Aditya Permana in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Here are some pictures of some varied proofing works we recently completed on the rooftops of Christs College where pigeon ingress around the plant and solar installations was becoming a real problem. The proofing combined some creative use of pigeon proof 50mm sheet weldmesh including around duct pipes, at the base of raised perimeter fencing and to secure the ends and backs of the solar installations, and netting over the roof areas with a bespoke 50mm black pigeon netting system. Good work here from John Scanlon, Barney Scanlon, Mason Scanlon and Shane Lewington.

Our bird proofing teams have just completed a large pigeon protection job in Watford. Yeatman Court is in the process of renovation and pigeons have been enjoying themselves. Leading edges and sills were showing a significant build up of toxic pigeon fouling which needed neutralising with biocide and then cleaning down before the being protected with P4 (four prong) stainless steel pigeon spikes, with most of the work being done off a high cherry picker cradle by IPAF qualified bird proofing teams led by John Scanlon. Spiking requires dry weather as the all-weather clear drying silicone adhesive required to secure the base of the spikes will not set in wet weather. After a very wet and windy spell, the weather held for us for a couple of weeks to get things done for the client.

Pigeons commonly use rooftops of high buildings for roosting and nesting and create a health hazard doing so with their fouling. They like the height for safety and use the areas under the plant for shelter. He's some pictures of recent neat pigeon netting job completed on the south coast by our technicians John and Barney Scanlon on top of the magistrates court there.

Some high level seagull spiking from a big cherry picker going on at a new development near Gloucester here from one of British Bird Control's IPAF and CSCS qualified bird proofing teams - Craig Anderton and Pete Doyle. Seagull spikes have longer steel prongs than pigeon spikes to prevent roosting on and fouling off the perimeters and leading edges of buildings.

The dangers of pigeon fouling...

Birds like to be high up, and they just love to perch on TV aerials and satellite dishes… and foul off them. And they don’t mess about – your average urban feral pigeon will create some 25lb of pigeon guano a year….

Pigeon fouling in particular is dangerous to humans – it’s a vector for the pathogens and bacteria associated with some 60 known diseases (https://britishbirdcontrol.co.uk/pigeon-guano-and-disease/) that can affect us very seriously, including Histoplasmosis (a very nasty fungal respiratory infection), Candidiasis and Salmonellosis.

As such clean-down should only be attempted by technicians trained in this area, and using the appropriate PPE, including breathing and cut protection.

This customer had a wide ledge immediately below his Sky dish and the pigeons were fouling not only on the ledge but also onto the floor by the back door, downpipe and drain area.

With the dish removed, we cleaned down the areas and treated with a professional biocide and the customer can start using his patio once more.

You will notice that there is some staining on the ledge. This is always to be expected with pigeon fouling; as well as being pretty nasty stuff, it’s also high in uric acid and corrosive, as anyone who has had it on their cars will know all too well!
