In this video I give a hands on review of a super special and incredibly rare timepiece. That watch is the Audemars Piguet 15454BC White Gold frosted Royal Oak 37mm.

What a stunning piece this is. A lot of you at home may not know how this affect is achieved and probably want to know more.

So just how do AP Achieve this stunning finish on their frosted watches and what is their purpose?

The goal of ‘frosted gold’ is to achieve such resplendence without a single diamond. It involves a process rooted in ancient gold hammering, known as the Florentine technique.

This is achieved by Beating the gold with a diamond tipped tool creating tiny indentations on the surface, giving a sparkle effect similar to that of precious stones, like diamond dust.

The hammering of the surface also results in a rough texture, which contrasts beautifully with the smooth, polished bevels of the case, bezel, and bracelet. A lot of people are averse to wearing diamond-encrusted watches, but perhaps a compromise has been found in Audemars Piguet’s frosted gold watches.

It achieves a stunning spark without having to use any diamonds, apart from the tip of the frosting hammer. I am a huge fan of the frosting of Royal Oaks and I feel that Ap use the florentine perfectly.

This 37mm royal oak frosted was released in 2016 to mark its 40th anniversary.

So in conclusion, the frosted release from AP was groundbreaking, new innovative and very very cool. It was definitely unexpected and somewhat in keeping with a release of such a forward thinking and revolutionary watch house.

I for one am very pleased with the frosted and I think its a really cool piece, the manufacturing process of the frosted element is very in depth, and it is the embodiment of sporty glamour.

This is a watch that you wont see anywhere and definitely one that you wont bump into someone else wearing its a heavy piece both in weight and glamour of industry.

Let me know what you think about the 15454BC frosted in the comments below.

A LOT OF people are averse to wearing diamond-encrusted watches, but perhaps a compromise has been found in Audemars Piguet’s frosted gold watches. Our impressions on the frosted gold treatment is overall positive. It is creative, looks stunning, and is way less jarring than gem-setting.

It achieves a stunning spark without having to use any diamonds, apart from the tip of the frosting hammer. I am a huge fan of the frosting of Royal Oaks and I feel that Ap use the florentine method to perfection.

This 37mm royal oak frosted was released in 2016 to mark the 40th anniversary of the 37mm Royal oak which was released in 1976. The 1976 release was an instant hit and so has been the frosting.

Whilst released in 2016 the frosted wasn’t actually available until 2017 after SIHH, this kept the watch world waiting in eager suspense, everyone excited to get their hands on this stunning and groundbreaking watch, never before ever perfected like Ap have done here.
In the creating of the frosted Audemars piguet partnered with Florentine jeweller Carolina Bucci to collaborate on the anniversary piece. Bucci is best known for her jewellery pieces which are incredibly bold and have a diamond hammered finish, making her the perfect partner for AP to create such a groundbreaking anniversary piece.

The anniversary frosted Royal oak was very well received upon its first release, when it came our the anniversary frosting was available in both 33 and 37mm variants, to commemorate the anniversary of the 37 royal oak as discussed.
The frosted affect was only released on gold models, the 2016/17 release constituted of the 33 and 37mm and was available in only rose gold and white gold variations.
This was such a hit that AP have gone on to release a number of different sizes and styles for the Royal oak frosted since, they are all limited edition and are al super hard to get hold of, especially at retail. The one in the video though is of course discontinued.

Lets talk about pricing, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you would have seen that AP has had a massive bull run in pricing in the last few years. Especially the last 12 months or so AP’s have gone cataclysmic.

The frosted 37mm 15454BC was priced at retail when released at around £41K, all of the limited production pieces have now been sold, but the original retail looks like a great price; in todays market this watch sells for 80K, this one here we have for sale is 2020 and I am asking £80K for it and I am sure it will go swiftly at that price.
