The Printer c.1915 by Sylvia Gosse.

This painting is currently on show at Tate Britain as part of the exhibition 'Now you see us: Women artists in Britain 1520-1920'. It displays many artists you might not have heard of or who have been overlooked because they were female!

I love this painting because it shows a female artist hard at work in their studio. It is not a self portrait although Sylvia was a printer too.

Sylvia was my husband's great great aunt so I know quite a lot about her. Although several of her works are now in major galleries, historically she has been in the shadow of her male contemporaries. I'm glad she is getting more public recognition now!

Getting back into wood block printing after the summer break. When thinking about a new design I experiment with how the colours blend together and the orientation of the blocks. Then have a play around with the arrangement within the space.

I'm so happy Spring is here! I've always been inspired by nature in my pattern designs. Every year I look forward to Spring, the leaves sprouting and the buds coming into flower. It reminds us that dark times don't last forever and we have a chance to start afresh. I'm not sure what this year will hold for Zena & Rose but I hope you will keep following my journey.
