Trade tip: Take a picture before you disconnect. That way you can always reference how it was before. Not all units have the same configuration and even if they do it’s far easier to look back at how it was before than to try to remember or writing it down. This applies to electrical wiring too and a lot of other trades. Also if anything looks as though it was your fault you have a picture to prove how it was before.

Emergency call out today. Pub had no power. Main fuse blown and corroded / welded into holder. Managed to get it out with some effort and know how but it shattered when it hit the floor. Had to sand and file holder to get good electrical contact after new fuse heated up within minutes. Got them up and running until UK Power Networks were able to come and replace the main intake. Problem solved.

Suggestion:

Set up a Whatsapp group to communicate with your clients.

I use Whatsapp groups to communicate with my clients on the fly.
When problems arise ir decisions are to be made everyone can be kept in the loop.
This one for example rhe architect had a design we worked to prior to the conservatory being installed.
Once I saw what was going in and how we would physically have to do it I didn’t like the design.
So I messaged the group which included the two clients and architect with various options and obstacles for a decision to be made.
They then spoke between themselves and then the architect video calls and we cane to a final decision.

All within 20 minutes.

We were then able to finish first fix. I would’ve like to have wired to. But I now realise there will always be more work to do no matter how late you stay on each job.

Which means I have more time to focus on my business setting up systems, estimating and invoicing. Rather than in my business on the tools, the phone and not getting paid for my time because I haven’t kept track of it.

Finish another rewire using existing conduit to minimise trunking runs.
Filled chases ready for client to fill and sand prior to decorating.
Came back after to screw sockets switches back and to fit appliances, test and certify.
Client is left with a choice.
By a shallower over or get a specialist gas fitter to cut and cap the steel pipe behind

Another 5 Start Review. We didn’t even attend he called asking for help after his power supply kept tripping and we talked him through finding the problem and resolving it over the phone with absolutely no danger to himself and we only a mere charged £2000,000!!!!
