Last week our all-weather heated garden room went up behind the pub. It gives us not only a beautiful entertaining space but the extra space we need with a cosy inside outside atmosphere.

It's a great individual space whether you're looking to meet friends for a drink, food, or one of our Sunday roast!?

On colder days, we not only have heaters but warm winter blankets available to keep you cosy.

It offers you a unique space for your Christmas party. We are now taking bookings from 2 to 80 ppl. It's ideal for friends, families or any work events.

As it's National Burger Day!

Meat* our Alma cheese beef brisket burger with Worcestershire mayonnaise. It's our best & dirtiest burger yet! If you haven't already tried it, it's on the menu permanently.

I love rum anyway but some of my favourite things are in this drink!

It's not for the faint-hearted, Hell Smoked Rum is a Caribbean rum aged in an Islay whisky cask with fresh scotch bonnet and bird's eye chilli, smoked chipotle and ancho chilli, and cacao nibs. The packaging describes it as a "face-melting blend of fire and smoke", as well as "like being stung in the face by a bee!", so there we go, you know what you're getting yourself into.

Guinness has an amazing following but after numerous, sizable price increases but more importantly getting some real quality competition from great new beers hitting the market. We've made the switch! 

London Black sits well within our ethos of always stocking a core range of quality independent local breweries on both cask & keg. Blacks quality has make the switch easy. Hope you enjoy it!

From 4pm yesterday, The Alma exchanged on a new lease making us the only independent Freehouse pub in Crystal Palace.

What does this mean for us? It means we are 100% "free of tie" and can buy and sell the very best beers, whether brewed locally, throughout the UK or the world. 

What does it mean for you? It means you will have some amazing quality draught products to choose from. The best lagers, pale ales, more casks ales, new IPA, sours, Porters, one off brews, collaboration brewers, beers you will not see consistently in any other pubs in the area.  

We have 10 keg draught lines plus 4 cask lines inside with a further 3 lines available at the garden bar in our heated, winter, stretch tent, to select the best of the best. 

We will bring you a real craft beer offering in liquid form, not just in name only. We aim to constantly excite and interest both you and us. We will always stock beers from small or midsize independent breweries offering a core of local London breweries while picking from amazing breweries up and down the country. 

Special mention to my wing men Tom & Bradley at Inkspot brewery, Ian at Brick and Scott & Claire at East London brewery, these three breweries got us through COVID, helping us into a position where we could aim for a freehouse status.

The "beer tie" is killing both pubs and breweries alike in the UK, it feels amazing and liberating to no longer have to compromise on our beer offer or be forced to pay considerably over the odds for a small selection of products.

CDP - Chef de Partie

The Alma in Crystal palace are looking to add another CDP chef to our growing team. To take on this key role you will need a background in scratch food, classic and modern cooking techniques, with great training and people skills, and be passionate about delivering high quality, interesting seasonal menus taking pride and responsibility for your work.

We are a privately owned, well-established, busy gastropub with a strong following of regular and new customers from surrounding areas in a friendly, busy part of South East London. We offer excellent and professional customer service in a relaxed atmosphere. We work with only the very best quality ingredients from some of the best suppliers in the UK. Our kitchen is small but well equipped, food covers more than double with our beer garden in the summer, requiring forward planning, organisation and efficiency.

You will report directly to our Sous & Head Chef and will be expected to have;

·Experience of a quality gastropub and/or restaurant kitchen environment

·Worked in a scratch fresh food kitchen

·Experience as high level CDP or sous

·Ability to follow written instructions and recipes getting the best out of seasonal ingredients

·Excellent team working skills leading by example with both front and back of house

·A desire to work hard, focus, learn and pass on your skills to your team

·To be responsible for consistent high quality and timely ex*****on of food on shift

·Ability to work effectively to manage and supervise the day to day running of the kitchen

·Follow instruction & take responsibility for daily food safety and hazard analysis management

To the right candidate we are offering good starting salary + generous tronc & pension.

Pay: £14.00-£15.50 per hour

What a difference a year makes! So happy to be back open & doing what we do best.
People make pubs & we have some of the very best around, both staff & customers! So proud of them all. Hard to believe it's nearly been 10yrs we've been a part of such an amazing area of London in Crystal Palace! A massive thank you to all my staff & all their efforts. Early evening sun & espresso martinis.

Despite what the weather has thrown at us this past week, it's been great to see so many turning up to catch up & see friends. We've enjoyed keeping you dry, fed, watered & a bit warm even when windy!

All bookings are under our stretch tent so don't be put off by the weather. We always leave tables just for walk-ins so please do pop in on the off chance you'll get a table. Frustratingly, some people don't turn up having booked but not cancelled & we'll happily let you have their tables too!
