Julie Brook's exhibition includes a pastel on paper work titled 'Ascending', which measures over 3m tall. This work was inspired by her time in Kanagaso Quarry, Japan, which she first visited in 2015. 'When I began making 'Ascending' I wanted the steps to feel that they were emerging from out of the ground and chaos of the spoil. That they had a feeling of always having been there. The drawings evolved through a series beginning with pencil to understand the composition of the work. 🔥 'The Firestack series first began on the West Coast of Jura in 1991 using a silent Super 8 camera to explore the time-based element of the work. Understanding the importance of sound, I returned to exploring this work in 2015 to give a more rounded expression of the presence of the elements and to explore them in depth through the different seasons.' As well as a fabulous range of artworks by Pangolin London artists, we are delighted to offer a number of exclusive experiences including a tour of foundry @pangolineditions courtesy of @gallerypangolin and tickets to the prestigious London art fair @masterpiecefair which takes place in June. Our exhibition, ‘Lynn Chadwick: Subliminal Influences’ closed today! If you weren’t able to visit, don’t fret – keep an eye out for our upcoming publication accompanying the exhibition in the summer! Our gallery will be closed from 17th January until 25th January, when we will re-open with our upcoming exhibition, ‘Feathers, Bones & Stones’, showcasing sculptor’s response to the natural world and the ingenius ways in which unconventional materials have been utilised to create sculpture. Our William Tucker and Steven Gregory exhibitions will remain open for viewing in the wider Kings Place building – we hope to see you there!
