Throughout June, our support centre and practice teams took part in our 30-day walking challenge called ‘Healthy Cities’. Collectively, our Bupa Dental Care teams walked over 155 million steps!

The Healthy Cities challenge encourages our teams to improve their health and that of the planet by taking part in a movement challenge. In turn, Bupa invests in regeneration projects to make cities healthier places for people to live.

Good dental health starts from a young age, and our practice teams often visit schools to teach children all about the dentist and how to correctly brush their teeth.

Recently, Xyanthe and Letitia from Museum Square Dental Centre visited a local school to teach the children about toothbrushing and oral hygiene. What better way to make a talk more interesting than dressing up as dental products! 🦷

As we continue into , we want to talk about the effect sugary food and drink can have on your teeth. 71% of British adults do not feel confident showing their teeth when they smile, with 33% saying this is because of discoloured teeth.

Composite bonding can offer a solution to erosion and decay, which in this case was caused by the consumption of fizzy drinks and a diet high in sugar. This smile makeover was done by Dr Hafsa Malik at our Bupa Dental Care UK practice.

Besides their dental skills, our teams have many other talents. One of our sedation nurses, Bev at Bupa Dental Care UK has been working hard on a special project for our sedation patients. We already offer cozy blankets in practice, but Bev has gone one step further and created her own custom-made blanket to make them comfortable and warm during their treatment.

We're thrilled to share that Keech Hospice Care, a beacon of hope for families facing terminal illnesses, is one of this year’s grant recipients from the Bupa Foundation! Nominated by Gina Hassall from Bupa Dental Care UK the hospice provides compassionate care across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, and Milton Keynes, and supports older patients in Luton and South Bedfordshire.

This year’s grant will enhance their incredible services by maintaining a ‘cuddle bed’ for parents to stay close to their children during critical times and supporting an emergency oxygen generator. Elaine Tolliday, Deputy CEO and Clinical Director at Bupa Dental Care explains: “We’re reaching more patients earlier and helping them to access the most appropriate care from the first minute they’re diagnosed. We are supporting people to remain as independent as possible and stay where they want to be, while helping their families. At Keech Hospice Care, we continue to put patients at the centre of everything we do and give them a voice”.

Joe Barrett, a dental nurse at Bupa Dental Care UK recently volunteered at his first Dentaid The Dental Charity clinic at Shiloh Rotherham.

The team provided essential care to ten patients aboard the charity dental unit. Joe's passion for supporting access to dental care for those in need led him to volunteer with Dentaid, and he's eager to continue making a difference.

He was joined by Emma Watts and dentist Sharon Jardine. The clinic, which started at the end of 2023, has already become a vital resource for the local community, serving people experiencing homelessness, addiction, and social exclusion.
