Our project in Devon celebrates the heart of the countryside, marrying timeless rural charm with cutting-edge sustainable design. Recently granted detailed planning consent, this contemporary country house sits within the open Devon landscape near the Devon-Cornwall border, just a few kilometres from the beautiful coastal town of Bude.

Designed to respect both its surroundings and the rich architectural heritage of the region, this build represents the very latest in sustainable construction systems, capturing the true essence of place.

Throwback to a project that captures the evolving essence of Shoreditch, where historic architecture meets a forward-thinking community vision.

Back in 2020, DaK Architects led the design and planning for a bold community resource building, a landmark at the intersection of Islington and Hackney. Nestled in a vacant urban site—an “urban artifact” between key vistas—our design concept drew on the elegant proportions of the neighboring terraces, with simple forms and rich textures that complement the heritage of Shoreditch.

The site connects to Tabernacle Square to the east and forms part of the Shoreditch Gateway to the north, where modern icons like the new Art ’Otel and Shoreditch House residential tower shape the cityscape. Guided by community consultations and pre-application insights, our team of consultants worked together seamlessly to bring this vision to life, aligning with Hackney Council’s vision for a community-centered space. Although now being re-envisioned for residential use, this project stands as a tribute to the blending of old and new, and the rich character of London’s urban fabric.

We are proud to unveil our latest architectural triumph in collaboration with UK Property Development, High View Farm in Goff's Oak.

Thoughtfully designed with a mix of contrasting brickwork and charred timber cladding, this development strikes the perfect balance between modern elegance and sensitivity to the surrounding heritage.

Our vision for High View Farm combines minimal detailing and volumetric simplicity, creating timeless homes that stand out while remaining grounded in local tradition.

A remarkable rooftop extension that floats above a historic 19th-century warehouse in the heart of Dalston, Hackney. Six unique apartments created from the existing shell, with five stunning new penthouses perched atop, combining industrial charm with modern loft-style living.

Designed and delivered by our team at 𝐃𝐚𝐊 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬, this project harmoniously blends heritage with contemporary design. High View Farm has been designed with a palette of materials which reflect the local vernacular; a mix of contrasting brickwork and charred timber cladding. This is coupled with minimal detailing and volumetric simplicity - creating buildings which express their contemporary character alongside sensitivity to their contextual heritage.

High view farm is due to complete at the end of October.

Ilaria is one of our Project Architects, and has been with Douglas and King since May 2021.

As a core member of our small team, she specialises in residential projects in rural settings. Work of this nature requires a sensitive response to local character and a rigorous application of environmental principles - both of which are key to Douglas and King’s design approach.

The rendered elevations show how matching modern details and construction to the historic timeline creates a positive impact on brownfield land on the Greenbelt and wider countryside 🌳

Our method works in both the city and the countryside capturing the spirit of the place. Planning has been approved for this house in Devon which is sustainable and zero carbon.
