It’s been a fantastic day at West Ham Park today.

We’ve had great performances from Celina Sharma, Fiaa Hamilton and DJ Ellis.

It’s now time to head over to the bandstand for more songs and music from local musicians. There’s still time to come down and enjoy the festival, arts, crafts, funfair, and local food stalls.

We’ll be back tomorrow (Sunday 21) for a full day of sport with West Ham United Foundation, Capital Kids Cricket and Tennis Come True – and it’s all FREE.

Come and have a go, or simply enjoy the beautiful gardens and stunning plant life.

West Ham Park is the largest green space in Newham and became a public park in 1874.

It is one of several sites, owned and managed by the City of London Corporation as a registered charity, which make up 11,000 acres of green space across London and southeast England.

The team at Barbican Library - City of London Libraries have teamed up with librarians across London to launch an app that takes inspiration from the ‘Couch to 5k’ fitness plan to encourage people to read more.

Developed by London Libraries - the London network of national library charity LibrariesConnected - Read On uses curated recommendations, reading challenges, interactive quizzes, and personalised reading plans to gradually make reading a regular part of users’ lives.

Aimed at Londoners who are keen to spend more time reading, Read On is a digital gateway to a universe of books, designed to inspire and support readers in increasing how many books that they read, but also to widen the range of genres, authors, and styles that they enjoy.

Read On’s integrated map feature enables users to find their nearest London library, attend events, and connect with fellow book lovers. The team behind Read On hopes that the app will turn the traditional ‘beach read’ into a year-round habit, with the accompanying benefits, such as stress reduction and increased self-esteem.

Residents can download the iOS and Android app directly or visit Artizan Street Library and Community Centre - City of London Libraries, Barbican Library - City of London Libraries, or Shoe Lane Library - City of London Libraries to find out more.

This year’s results are in! 🏆 💚

15 of our iconic open spaces have been recognised as some of the best managed in the world.

13 of them have also received Green Heritage Award status, in recognition of their historic features and high standard of conservation. 🌳

Did you know? The City of London Corporation protects over 11,000 acres of green space across the capital and southeast England, investing over £38m a year.

Many of these sites operate as charitable trusts and are run at little or no cost to the communities they serve.

They include a wide variety of critically important wildlife habitats, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, Special Areas of Conservation, and National Nature Reserves, and are protected under legislation. 🌼 🦋 🌺

A recent report revealed that our network of internationally important open spaces is worth £282.6 million each year in benefits to society, and £8.1 billion over 50 years.

In total, they attract over 47 million visitors every year. That’s more than three times the number who go to Premier League football matches every season, and almost eight times the number of annual visitors to the Grand Canyon.

Congratulations to all our winners 🎉 Ashtead Common, Bunhill Fields, Burnham Beeches City of London, City of London Cemetery and Crematorium, Coulsdon Common, Epping Forest City of London, Farthing Downs & New Hill, Hampstead Heath City of London, Highgate Wood, Kenley Common, Queen’s Park, Riddlesdown, Spring Park, West Ham Park City of London, and West Wickham Common.

Restaurants Jin Bo Law and Madison Restaurant London, and the Mr Fogg's City Tavern pub have taken home their winners’ gongs from this year’s Awards in the City of London.

The awards, which are held at Guildhall, London, are given to licensed cafes, bars, pubs, clubs, restaurants, and events venues across the Square Mile which are part of the City of London Corporation’s scheme. A record 75 Square Mile licensed venues were accredited for this year’s awards, which were first launched in 2006.

Mr Foggs City Tavern was the overall winner for the second time, while Jin Bo Law, which entered the scheme for the first time, and Madison were singled out for ‘highly commended’ trophies.

As the Licensing Authority for the City, the organisation’s awards promotes high standards in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour while also helping to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for people to socialise.

This year’s scheme was expanded to include criteria on counter terrorism, combatting drink spiking, enhancing women’s safety, tackling sexual harassment, and su***de prevention, all of which are a top priority for the UK’s night-time economy.

Accredited venues are eligible for a 30% discount from the City’s late-night levy applicable to all venues with permission to sell alcohol between the hours of midnight and 6am on any day of the week. Currently, 310 venues pay the levy.

‘Safety Thirst’ is a key part of , the City Corporation’s growth strategy for the Square Mile as a world-leading business and leisure location, delivering a seven-day-a-week Square Mile that is a global magnet for businesses and residents, visitors, and workers alike.

The second largest archive service in the UK will change its name next month, in order to attract new visitors and clarify the nature of its extensive collections.

The City of London Corporation-owned London Metropolitan Archives will drop ‘Metropolitan’ from its name and from Monday 5 August, it will become known as The London Archives.

The decision to rebrand LMA follows analysis of feedback from workshops and surveys with potential users, some of whom thought that the Islington-based service could be holding the records of only the Metropolitan Police, London Metropolitan University, or London Underground’s Metropolitan Line. It also became clear, said LMA staff, that the word 'metropolitan' had fallen out of everyday use, was not commonly understood or well defined, and did not help explain what LMA could offer, both, to researchers who were interested in using the service, or to new visitors.

The archives’ reopening as The London Archives will be celebrated by a new free display, ‘Magna Carta and King John’, featuring two of the most iconic documents in the archives’ collections: London’s Magna Carta (1297) and ‘the mayoralty charter’ of King John, issued in the same year (1215) as the first issue of Magna Carta. It will be the first time that London’s Magna Carta has been on public display at The London Archives (or LMA). https://tinyurl.com/2yhsb8f7

As we head into summer, we’re reminding people not to light BBQs and to dispose of rubbish properly when visiting our parks and open spaces. 🚮

Did you know? A carelessly discarded glass bottle or a cigarette butt has the potential to cause a severe fire, posing a danger to plant, animal, and human life!

We joined London Fire Brigade and Thames Water in a training exercise on Wanstead Flats recently, which simulated a wildfire and tested our response if something like this were to happen in real life. 🔥🚒👩‍🚒

Our staff and volunteers work tirelessly to maintain 11,000 acres of open space, owned and managed by the City of London Corporation across London and southeast England.

But we need your help to keep them safe… ✔️

The best way to prevent fires from breaking out is to be careful and responsible during hot and dry periods.

Most wildfires in the UK are the result of human activity, and periods of hot, dry weather increase the risk of fires breaking out.

If you see a fire, remember to keep a safe distance, and call 999. You should never attempt to put out the fire yourself.

Let’s work together to keep London’s open spaces safe this summer.

🚨Traffic changes at Old Jewry 🚨

On 5 July, we reopened Old Jewry to allow all motorised traffic to travel southbound between Gresham Street and Poultry/Cheapside, with two-way movement retained for cyclists. The left turn at the junction with Poultry is restricted to taxis and people cycling only.

We are undertaking this work as a traffic experiment to improve access for motorised traffic from north to the south in the Cheapside/Guildhall area.

The experiment will run for a maximum period of 18 months and we will monitor the effects of the experiment on local traffic on Old Jewry and surrounding streets, as well as assess the impact on people walking and cycling.

Should you wish to comment on the trial, please complete the Old Jewry consultation questionnaire: https://bit.ly/4bGxEm6
