Poem 57: July 2023 I want a BBQ I want a barbeque in the sun with charcoal-clad chickens and saucy sausages and patient paper plates and daytime drinks. The feeling of the golden yellow rays warming my skin. Lying on the grass and not caring about insects crawling into my hair, just staring up at clouds and chattin...

Marking the end of my first year training to be an Art Psychotherapist: PLAY.
My piece '5 a Day' was inspired by the idea from a lecture that we use five defence mechanisms a day, referencing the daily recommendation of five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, and the proverb ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’. I used this play on words with regards to mental health rather than physical health. I assigned a fruit to each defence mechanism used; attendees were encouraged to use the clay provided to add one of the defence mechanisms they use to add to the fruit bowl.
Thanks so some generous donations, I have been able to pay my first year of fees, with around half coming from donations and half from my own money. 🙏🏼
Please support my crowdfunder if you can (link in bio) as I am ineligible for a student loan (course fees are £18,525).
To enquire about buying original artwork or prints, please feel free to send me a DM or contact me at [email protected]. Prints are £40, the original is £200.

This poem was inspired by meditative and yogic practices, ending in the invocation of peace that often concludes my yoga sessions.

I’m also on the committee, so also working behind the scenes. I’ve been really overwhelmed recently despite having less on, so looking forward to getting stuck into my piece later this afternoon. 🎨👩🏻🎨

Ineligible for a loan, not given any bursary, I’m fundraising and working all I can to pay over 18 grand in tuition fees, whilst the uni warden spends as much on Addison Lee.
I want my contact hours and now there’s a marking boycott, which makes it a frankly scary time to be studying with mind to enter a healthcare profession, especially just finding out that under Labour, 2/3 of refuge funding was provided and under the Conservative government this has gone down to ZERO. Domestic violence victims are not receiving mental health support because it is only affordable to offer it to children (and in groups). Yesterday’s speaker at our lecture donated her fee to the refuge.
It all has a domino effect.
