Videos by Studio Wayne McGregor in London. Studio Wayne McGregor is a creative arts space for making. It is the home for multi-award winning choreographer Wayne McGregor CBE and his company of dancers, Company Wayne McGregor, and the hub for all of our creative output.
This Saturday the World Premiere of Wayne McGregor's ‘Deepstaria’ will open the 44th Montpellier Danse Festival
A title inspired by an enigmatic species of jellyfish with a stellar-sounding name, Wayne conjures in ‘Deepstaria’ a highly sensory, meditative pure dance and sound experience which reflects on our profound relationship with the void and our own mortality
Utilising Vantablack Vision® technology on stage to create unfathomable darkness, Wayne visions an environment that disturbs traditional hierarchies of perception
In this void, acoustic imagery and animative music by Oscar-winning sound designer Nicolas Becker and renowned music producer LEXX create a sonic dreamscape that is continuously recomposed and performed by revolutionary digital audio engine Bronze AI
The British Council and British Council France is supporting Wayne McGregor in their performance of ‘Deepstaria’ at the Montpellier Danse Festival

“Szymanowski was a composer and an artist who understood and valued transformations. He knew for his art to live for future generations, one had to be open to new forms of expression and collaboration – forms not yet invented when his musical work originated. Liveness is a present tense form.” - Wayne McGregor, director and choreographer A Body for Harnasie, a contemporary interpretation of the ballet Harnasie - a pioneering project combining the beauty of Karol Szymanowski's music performed live by the NOSPR with choreography by contemporary dance icon Wayne McGregor and moving images by visual artist Ben Cullen Williams to create an exciting music and film spectacle. Out of the Inferno, inside Purgatory and towards Paradise - a premiere delayed. In a parallel non-Covid world, THE DANTE PROJECT would open tonight at Covent Garden with the incomparable Royal Ballet. We feel the void most acutely this week - away from the stage we love. Yet, we are also reminded that this moment will pass and that the art lives long. New premiere dates announced soon. For 25 years, British choreographer and director Wayne McGregor has made choreography that interrogates life through the experience of the body. Now McGregor turns his attention to the body as archive, with a dance portrait illuminated by the sequencing of his own genome. In a continuous reimagining, Autobiography is constantly reinvented; the order of the dance pieces algorithmically-assembled from a collection of 23 choreographic volumes which unfold uniquely at each performance.
McGregor is joined by an impressive set of collaborators: electronic musician and producer Jlin (who regularly performs the score live at performances), visual artist Ben Cullen-Williams (winner of 2018 D&AD award for Autobiography's set design) , lighting designer Lucy Carter, artist and designer Aitor Throup (costumes) and dramaturg Uzma Hameed. The Autobiography algorithm which determines the performance order was developed in collaboration with Nick Rothwell.
