The Now
The Crobar is London's best Rock n' Roll bar. Due to Covid we are no longer trading at our previous address. I for one can't wait. I miss all my Crobar friends.
We will be back as soon as we can in a new home, where we will resume our life of Beer n' Whiskey, Rock n' Roll. In the mean time we are crowdfunding to raise cash in the hope we can not only reopen the bar, but open a live music venue as well. We will not let Soho die! https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/crobar

R.I.P MALCOLM DOME
I am utterly devastated and heartbroken by the news of Malcolm’s death. How do you come to terms with the loss of such a beautiful, sincere and generous soul?
I speak on behalf of everybody who ever worked at The Crobar when I say he was by far our most loved and respected customer, and his death will leave us all poorer for his passing, but greatly enriched by knowing him.
Much will be said about Malcolm’s contribution to the Rock & Metal scene, but for those of us who knew him personally, the loss goes far deeper than that.
Malcolm emailed me every week from the start of the first lockdown to see how I was doing, and that meant the world to me and helped me keep my head above water when I felt I was drowning.
I will miss you terribly Malcolm. Thank you for all your kindness and support and all the joy you bought to my life. I shall see you anon in the great gig in the sky.
I shall have to leave it there, as I can’t see the screen through my tears.

Hello Ladies and Gents,
My apologies for the radio silence, but I have been ill.
16 months of relentless stress and worry, constantly fighting insurance companies, landlords and Westminster Council, watching 40 years of hard work crumble to dust and being helpless to do anything about it, and the death of 3 fellow bar owners in Soho, two by su***de and one heart attack, took it’s toll and floored me.
I’m good at handling stress, but all that was too much even for me.
Thankfully my wife has managed to get a new job, so we can now pay the mortgage, and won’t loose the house as well. Thank god for one small mercy.
While I’ve been laid low, property agents have been searching for a new venue, but with no joy so far.
There’s been a couple that were too small, one that needed rebuilding, and one with only 2 toilets, down a staircase worse than the one in Manette St. That was a definite No.
I know many of you expected the Crobar to reopen as soon as we finished crowdfunding, and I wish I had a magic wand to make it happen. Unfortunately, it’s a bloody mess out there, and it’s proving to be more difficult than I’d hoped. Just getting some kind of meaningful insurance is impossible right now, and that’s causing huge problems for the whole entertainment industry.
Fingers crossed there will be no more lockdowns this winter, and we can get back to some kind of normality soon.
Take care of yourselves. I know I’m not the only one who’s struggled through all this mayhem.
The Crobar.
We've finally put our favourite battle cry on our merch.
Crobar 'Beer n' Whisky, Rock n' Roll' t-shirts and hoodies etc. are now available from www.crobarmerch.com
I'm off to order mine now.
Some friends asked me to post this picture. They won't tell me why, and it's all very mysterious, but they promised me a cup of tea next time I'm in their office. How could I refuse such a lovely offer.
To all the foreign nationals about to be kicked out of this country by small minded bigots, I am gutted it has come to this, and very sad to see you leave.
In my 30 years of bartending in London, I have met and worked with people from all over the world, and all you did was enrich my life.
Good luck to you all, wherever the winds of nationalistic bu****it blow you 😢 🤬

https://www.jurist.org/news/2021/01/uk-supreme-court-rules-businesses-can-receive-insurance-payouts-for-covid-19-lockdown-losses/
In January the Supreme Court ruled that insurances companies had to pay out to businesses affected by Covid.
So far only 5% of claims have been settled, and only to big business that can afford an army of solicitors.
My insurance company are still refusing to talk to me.
Are you ever going to mention this Boris?
Are you ever going to stand up for all the small businesses you ruined?
Are you ever going to acknowledge or do something about the greatest fraud in this countries history?
There are 10's of thousands of businesses like mine, and we all want an answer and the money we're owed.

I am devastated by the news of the sudden death of my friend DJ Rex Jefferson, who passed away unexpectedly on Saturday night.
You may not know his name, but if you went to Rock & Metal clubs in Soho and Camden in the 90's and 00's, you will have been to one of his clubs, or danced to one of his sets.
As well as DJing regularly for years at Full Tilt at The Electric Ballroom and at Slimelight, he started Synthetic Culture and many other club nights.
Rex was a true believer in the Alternative Rock Scene, and was a big driving force in making it the huge success it was in London and internationally.
Unlike many promoters and DJ's, Rex truly cared about the people in the scene, and the only time I ever saw him get angry or raise his voice was when a security guard had mistreated one of his punters (or some muppet had asked him if he could play Madonna). The London Rock scene would have been a far poorer place without him.
Rex was a man I loved dearly and respected massively, and I will miss you forever mate. I'll see you anon in the big nightclub in the sky.
My condolences and my deepest sympathies go out to his wife and family at this dreadful time.

Until I have a new place, let's play Fantasy Crobar.
I want an Addams Family pinball machine, a secret entrance to a disused tube station, AC/DC as the house band, and toilets and drains that never block or flood. I told you it was fantasy!
Let your imaginations rip. What would you like to see in the new Crobar? Tell me your hearts desires (cos who knows what might be possible)

Thank you!
You have saved The Crobar!!!
You did it! Our Crowdfunder is now closed and we smashed it!
Thanks to your generosity we have raised £100,000 and the hunt for a new premises has begun.
From the depth of despair last July, we are now looking for a new venue, and it’s all thanks to you.
Words do not begin to express how grateful we are for all your generosity, help and kindness, and all we can say is, from the bottom of our hearts, We Salute You!
We would like to thank our 1156 Crowdfunders for their amazing generosity. You guys are the best and we love you!
We would also like to thank the following for their valuable time, efforts and donations.
Jazz Gandhi of Sakura Communications and Adam Sagir of The Noise Cartel. Without you two, this would never have happened.
Our thanks also to (in no particular order):
Murry Toms at Crowdfunder, Dave Gulvin for the HIM test pressings, Ray Zell for his Pandora strips, Fridge for his excellent coffee, the guys at Milltag for the epic looking cycling shirts, Rich Jones & Tom Simper for the artwork, Adrian Ashton at Manson Guitars for the signed Muse guitar, Steve Marsh at Mascot Label Group for the signed Joe Bonemassa guitar, Lucy and Andrew for the brilliant documentary; ‘CROBAR, MUSIC WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT’, Kitty Keighley for donating the tips from her radio show, Seb Willett for the wonderful artwork of The Crobar’s old frontage, Khaled Lowe for the signed Rival Sons LP, Julie Weir for the Priest posters, Glen Arkadieff for the photo of the bar, Dan Mussen at Jagermeister for the Jager machine, Raj at Speciality Drinks for the world's best bourbon and Damien Lely for performing miracles and fixing all our Facebook issues. You are all stars!
Finally, a big thank you to all the journalists, bloggers, podcasters and writers who have helped tell our story. Without your efforts in these strange and bewildering times, we would have got nowhere.
We will see you all soon at The New Crobar for a well deserved drink or six, and I for one am seriously looking forward to it.
Richard Crobar.
