My own kids have had sugar doppelgängers of their favourite ‘pets’ over the years (take a bow Jellycat doggy who is now only a head, Jellycat Bubba who was once a white rabbit and Jellycat Cow Cow, the youngest of the clan and therefore the most intact)

I have spent more time than I care to remember hunting for them when they get lost but they are still slept with every night 😍 Thanks for the trip down memory lane 🐶 🐰 🐮

It’s been a little while for our friends Elsa and Olaf but here you are again, looking good. Apparently a new Frozen is coming out in 2027. 3 years before the cake makers of the world need to brace themselves for all things glitter and snowflakes!

Funny/not so funny story about semi naked cakes:

When they first started to be requested quite a few years ago, we made one for a couple and delivered it to the fancy London hotel where they were getting married. It was delivered to the kitchen where the chef immediately phoned up to tell us that something bad had happened to the cake and we needed to come and fix it. He said all the icing had slid off and there was was no way his team would touch it. Obviously I start panicking thinking we needed to collect it and redo it with 1 hour until the wedding starts and then I realised he had probably never seen a semj-naked wedding cake before. Image sent, chef placated and disaster averted. Aged 10 years in 10 minutes

Corporate cakes

In my humble opinion (and because it pays the bills), I advocate that all corporate events have a cake.

Especially if it looks as cool as this one!

I hope she won’t mind me mentioning it but we welcomed a lovely girl from Ukraine 2 years ago to work at Cakes by Robin. Anna left her whole family in Ukraine and came over here by herself on the government sponsored scheme because of the war. She is intelligent, highly educated and very motivated. She wanted to make a better life for herself and her family who are still in Ukraine.

She joined Cakes by Robin never having touched a piece of icing and with minimal English. She was scared of making cakes having never baked and it just wasn’t her thing. Well it is now! She has blossomed from a timid and introverted girl to an assertive and wonderful asset to both Cakes by Robin and the UK.

Anna, you should be so proud of what you have achieved and the life you have created in adverse and sad circumstances. Look at the cakes you can make now! I know there are so many things that you want to do that have been interrupted but you’ve got a useful new skill and will make the best cakes Ukraine has ever seen should you choose to when you return there

A last minute beauty of a cake that went out this week. So pretty! one of yours I believe! My children’s Jellycats look much more chewed than this!

Check out this mountain biking cake. Some serious structure to make sure that sugar model wheelie on top arrived at the delivery location still in the air! 🚴 Another one to test our delivery driver and I’m pleased to say that he passed with flying colours!
