An inquest has found Thomas Gibson, 40, who died from a cardiac arrest just hours before the birth of his daughter, could have been saved.
On 27 May 2023, Mr. Gibson visited Wythenshawe Hospital A&E after suffering from a severe stomach bug for three weeks. An ECG indicated a potential heart blockage. Mr. Gibson was discharged and advised to return if his stomach bug persisted.
Sadly, the ECG showed signs of a "complete heart block," a condition that can lead to sudden cardiac death.

Coroner Dr Julian Morris found there was a lack of clear leadership at the birthing centre, and a failure to follow established guidelines in place. He committed to writing to all birth centres across London to give recommendations.
"If other birthing centres operate like that three years later, the likelihood is that more children will die as a result of poor care, understaffing, and a lack of leadership and management," says Martin.
King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust apologised to the Kennedy family and said it "fully accepts" the coroner's findings.

“Jessica died three weeks after she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Her family said she had contacted her GP more than 20 times over five months, with symptoms ranging from abdominal pain to a cough so bad it made her vomit.
"The doctor would listen to the latest symptoms, prescribe medication and send her away. Not once did anyone mention the word “cancer”.
Any death is always tragic, but particularly when someone is so young and not being listened to by the experts.
If you are not happy with your doctor’s diagnosis, you can always request a second opinion. Do not suffer like Jessica.

With over 6 million patients on waiting lists, the NHS are transferring more people to private hospitals for free treatment to ease the burden.
However, it is not without risk.
Before agreeing, patients should ensure the proposed hospital has essential facilities, such as intensive care units, which are not standard in the private sector.

A group of doctors offered a controversial medical technique which allegedly put kidney patients' health at risk, the BBC reported.
Some 20 patients at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth have been using the procedure, which is not recommended in UK guidelines.
A consultant was wrongly sacked from the hospital in 2018 after objecting to the practice.
The hospital trust said the safety and care of its patients was its priority.

It is not unusual for the more serious and catastrophic injury claims to take between two to four years on average to conclude.
This is because there are often numerous medical or other specialist reports required to support the claimant’s case. Negotiations may be more complex in very serious injury claims.
Most cases don’t settle until the injured person has fully recovered. However, with very severe injuries, the person often does not fully recover and it takes time to ensure any compensation reflects this. Where possible, an interim payment should be secured to help financially until the claim is finalised.

The Government has been told to reverse cuts to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after new data showed a sharp rise in workplace injuries and accidents in the UK.
The HSE report revealed two million workers in Great Britain reported suffering injuries in 2022/23, with an estimated 875,000 cases resulting in the loss of 35.2 million working days.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said the HSE needed more funding after seeing its 2020-2021 budget drop 43 per cent on 2009-2010, while staffing levels have been cut by 35 per cent since 2010.
