I am very much looking forward to visiting this beautiful venue🥰
We are very pleased and honored to welcome the world renowned print artist Hiroko Imada for an exceptional weekend at the Abbey on January 20-21, 2024 🌸
Japanese woodblock printing is a traditional print method that became popular in the 17th-19th centuries. This technique originated in ancient China before it was brought to Japan where it grew in popularity in the Edo period (1603-1867). Japanese woodblock prints, also called ukiyo-e (which means pictures of the floating world), are a traditional art form also used for printing books before reaching European audiences and forming the West's perception of Japanese art in the late 19th century, particularly with the landscape print series of Hokusai and Hiroshige, the most famous ukioye-e masters. It also had a strong influence on artists such as Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, Vincent van Gogh, or even Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
Immerse yourself in a truly unique experience in a magical medieval building where you will have the opportunity to spend an evening with Hiroko Imada for a talk followed by a supper before attending a woodblock print workshop the day after. You can either stay at the Abbey for the weekend (accommodation available) or just come and join us for the talk & supper on Saturday evening and/or for the workshop on Sunday morning or afternoon if you live locally.
