JUST A SMALL REMINDER:

DRIVING LESSONS & DRIVING TESTS

With the waiting times for tests getting longer and longer we need to make sure to the best of our ability we get it right the first time, its far better to move the test than fail it!!

As driving instructors, we can only advise people about their readiness to take a test!

You may think you are driving well when the instructor is:

Telling you when to change gear!
Asking you what the speed limit is!
Talking you through every manoeuvre!
Telling you which lane to be in!
Reminding you which exit to come off of on a roundabout because you forget!
Helping you when you can’t work out if there is enough space for you to get your car through!

If all, or any of the above apply to you, then unfortunately, you are NOT test ready!

When the door shuts and it’s just you and the examiner, the car is the loneliest place to be, when you make a mistake and your brain goes to mush it’s the worst feeling ever!

Remember those family and friends who urge you to just have a go for the experience, aren’t the ones having to go through it, people have very selective memory’s when it comes to driving and tests!

Ask anyone who has failed a test if it was a nice experience!

Remember it’s YOU doing the test, no one else, no phone to google answers, no help from anyone else just YOU!

If you are up to standard, you will still be nervous, but you won’t be doubtful of your ability!

Go look in the mirror and have a straight talk with yourself!

This is a skill for life.

It saves YOUR life and other road users life.

The big question is.......

Would you take an A level if you hadn’t studied enough and then expect to pass it?

Thanks for reading. Have a serious think .....

STAY SAFE.

Looking for a driving instructor!

1. We are NOT waiting for you to call (the week before you turn 17) as we've been fully booked for several weeks and like myself, sometimes months, plan ahead, choose an instructor and get your name down on their waiting list!

2. Asking "how many hours do I need?" when the first few lessons have been completed, is like asking "how long is a piece of string?” Remember it’s a skill for life be patient and enjoy your journey!
Rome wasn’t built in a day.

3. When asked upon enquiry, have you ever driven before, this does not mean in a carpark/forest or with your mates/parents (illegal too)!

4. The "cost" should NOT be your no. 1 priority!
We teach a life skill and it’s fine to pay £35-£40 for riding lessons, music lessons, football coaching etc. I can assure you that it's more dangerous to drive than any of the above!

Cheap is not always good!
Good is not always cheap!

5. When you cancel short notice, we charge! It costs US money as we all budget the hours we need to teach to live. If you weren't paid for missing work, I'm sure you'd get your a*** into work when you've got a cold, headache, tummy-ache, etc.

6. "My mate passed in 5/10hrs..." Really? We hear it all the time! Believe what you want but I doubt it!

7. When you fail, take responsibility for it... It's the grown-up thing to do. It wasn't because the examiner didn't like you, it was a "Monday", it was a "Friday", end of month etc, YOU failed because you didn't drive to the required standard expected.

8. If you fail, you can't retake a test for 10 working days FOR A REASON... You need additional training.
It's no good just taking another test you failed because you didn’t reach the standard required!

9. We, as instructors have heard all the stories about "my last instructor was unreliable etc" and in many cases, it's due to being charged for late cancellation of lessons (Our wages)!

10. We pay a lot to earn our qualifications, pass our exams, run our car, i.e. fuel, insurance, tax, tyres, licence... When we tell you a certain way to do something, it's for a good reason so hearing "My dad said..." really doesn't help your cause!

11. Be patient with yourself - it takes time to learn. It does not happen overnight.
Learning to drive will probably be one of the most difficult dangerous skills you ever learn!

12. Don't stay up till 2am the night before and expect to be sharp the next day. No drinking, smoking, drugs etc ....we know when you've been doing this stuff. Imagine what the police would do with you, should you have an accident after passing your test!!!

13. Practise makes perfect - practise practise and practise, no lesson goes to waste when learning how to drive, we learn something new each time we get behind the wheel with different scenarios and situations, you will know when you are ready to leave us when you are doing everything confidently and independently.

14. The greater the effort the sweeter the reward ...so pay attention and ask as many questions as you need to ask 😉
So whoever you are and whoever you choose as your Driving Instructor, enjoy yourselves on route to your Full License.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to read this message.

🚨Looking for a driving instructor? 🚨

Here’s some things that might help you in your search...

1. We ARE waiting for you to call! We rely on the phone ringing! I may be busy and you may have to wait if you’d really like me as your instructor, but I’ll always make time to talk to you about how I can help and if you’re eager to get started but I can’t fit you in I can give you some suggestions to get you on the road and practicing safely - or I have some great instructor friends who’s waiting list may be slightly shorter than mine. Either way, ring me! Depending on your availability I may have just the right free slot in my diary!

2. Asking "how many hours do I need?" when the first few lessons have been completed is a totally reasonable question to ask. I’ll give you my best estimations and together we can set a goal to work towards.

3. When asked upon enquiry whether you've driven before I love to hear your experiences. Even if you think it’s a totally new skill, you will come to lessons with experience of being a passenger. You might be surprised how much you already know! You may even have had a little try at the peddles in a car park with family or mate. How did it go? Was it fun? We’ll spend the first lesson building on that! Ps - if you are having a play in a car park... make sure you’re legal! (And look out for the ANPR! 😉 ).

4. The "cost" of lessons should be up there in your top 3 considerations. Learning to drive can be expensive. But don’t let that put you off. If you’re struggling financially let’s see if we can structure lessons on a way that works for you.

5. Sometimes stuff happens, we get sick, our work shifts change, the sun shines and a friend suggests the beach... and your lesson might not be a priority that day. If you need to cancel at short notice I understand. There are occasions I may also need to cancel. Let’s try and keep that to a minimum as it disrupts your learning. If you want to be picked up or dropped off somewhere different, or bring a friend with you, or your child if your childcare lets you down, then great! They make for great lessons! A little notice will help me plan 🙂

6. "My friend passed in 5/10hrs..." maybe he/she did... maybe he/she didn’t!! Maybe you will... maybe you won’t!! We are all different. I’m pretty sure you do many things different/better than your friend! Let’s work together to do what’s right for you ...

7. If you fail... that’s a real bummer. Failing is actually quite common. There may be a few reasons why you failed but we’ll work together to get you ready for the next test.

8. If you fail, you can't retake a test for 10 working days ... but you CAN book it immediately. If you feel having a test date is the goal you need then great. Get it booked. We’ll look at what’s available and find a date that between us works. Then we’ll make a plan for making the most of the time we have before the next test.

9. We, as instructors often hear stories about other instructors. I am sorry if you’ve not had a great previous experience with someone else. I’m looking forward to hearing how I can help you.

10. Instructors often think they know best! 😉 Your parents may also think they know best! Listen to the person you think makes the most sense to you. Ask questions, get me to justify everything I suggest, particularly if you don’t get it or disagree. Do the same with your parents!

11. Be patient with yourself - it takes times to learn. Some find it easy, some don’t. But the way you are taught will make a big difference to how you learn. We’ll work together.

12. You’re young... you party animal you! If you know you’re out late on Friday night maybe don’t book a lesson on a Saturday morning! I won’t either 😉.

13. Practice makes perfect - every lesson will give you more and more experience. I’m looking forward to seeing what we discover and watching you gain knowledge, understanding and confidence on different roads, ready for you to be driving on your own real soon!

14. What you put in is what you will get out...if I’m boring you and you’re losing concentration, tell me to shut up! It’s up to me to keep it interesting and enjoyable... and you’ll soon find out I’m a massive fan of questions... so ask me lots! I’ll be doing the same because I’m nosey like that 😉.

Whoever you are and whoever you learn with enjoy the journey ! 💯

Have A Good Day 🚗 💨

Some good news for England.
Unfortunately it's bad news for Wales and Scotland :-(

- The DVSA have announced driving tests will restart on Thursday 22nd April in England.

- Theory tests will restart on 12th April 2021.- Instructor tests (Parts 1 & 2) will restart on 22nd April 2021.

These announcements are subject to the Government road map being re-assessed on 5th April.

This is where they will look at the data, vaccine roll out etc. and hopefully give everyone the green light to restart driving lessons on 12th April 2021.
