This Td5 90 has had one of our awesome GTB450 VNT turbos installed, but the owner wanted to bring it to us so we could check that everything was right and perhaps dial in a bit more power on the dyno.
After an initial power run, the figures were good, but not as good as they could be, so we did a few simple checks and found a dirty air filter. Immediately after replacing this with one of our Alive ITG panel filters, we had pretty much found the missing power, but we were sure we could improve some aspects of the tune and so we set to work making this happen.
Alive Power Flash is available on the Alive Tuning website.

Round 3 of the awdc freelander trophy,
How did it go?
Saturday we walked all 5.5 miles of course to try and get as much as possible to memory hoping to avoid another disaster similar to round 2! The course was very fast in places with some really rough parts for good measure.
Lap one we had a great start but dez decided to throw up some issues🤦🏻♂️ part way into the lap he went into limp mode and pulled all of our power from us to the point I thought our turbo had failed this resulted in a 13:03
Lap two we made some changes but still didn’t know if we’d fixed our issue we decided to try and work with it and all seemed ok apart from now we had a loud knocking noise coming from the drivers front wheel we managed a 12:01
After the first two laps we knew we had to get on it and make up the time we’d lost we also realised we would struggle to get all 8 laps in before our time was up so this was it all or nothing for the next laps and we would run them back to back without checking Dez in between.
Lap 3 we managed a 11:09
Lap 4 a 10:47 which was on par with the fastest freelanders.
At this point we stopped for dinner and gave Dez a good check over with a loose exhaust and ball joint being our only issues we set straight back out to do the next two laps back to back, laps 5 and 6 were uneventful bringing in a 11:08 and 10:53
With some of the other Freelanders having issues we knew all we had to do was finish all 8 laps and we would be in with a chance of a podium so we decided to back off a little for laps 7 and 8.
After picking up a puncture on lap 7 we came in with a 11:21. Lap 8 went smoothly with a steady 12:15 this meant we managed to pick up 2nd place at only our third event!
Overall the event was incredible and with myself and Chris (co-driver) learning to work together better 😂 we managed some respectable times. As for Dez apart from some minor repairs we couldn’t fault him 👌🏻
Bring on the next one 😊
The most powerful customer owned Td5 we’ve done to date, with a staggering 313hp / 685Nm from its 15P engine 💪
Round 1 of the AWDC Freelander Trophy.
How did it go?
For a first event in a vehicle we had very little seat time in, We think it went very well!
Saturday was scrutineering and with only a few minor issues we were cleared to compete so at 9:45am the following morning we lined up for our first lap. The lap went well, the course was great with a mixture of slow rough stone sections onto fast loose gravel with some short climbs thrown in for good measure.
Lap one was slow as we expected, even though we had previously done a recce lap, Neither Will or I couldn’t remember much of it! ⏱️ 13:38
Lap two, more confident and knowing exactly where we were going, we upped the pace and all seemed well until we missed a turn 😂 and had to detour ruining our time. ⏱️ 13:27
Lap three and we had to do better! We decided at the start line we wanted to achieve a 12 minute lap time and keep the truck in one piece. We set off and pushed hard, trying to remember where we could go fast and more importantly where we couldn’t, Dez did us proud, holding together and delivering a 12:43 lap! 😎
At this point, we were sitting 4th in class with the Ravenol v6 freelander not too far ahead. Several delays meant we would end the day with only one run left each so knowing this one could make a difference, meant we had go for it and not get lost this time!🤦🏻♂️ Little did we know, the v6 would have issue allowing us to catch them enough for us to finish the event in 3rd place! 🏆
Overall the event was fantastic, fun and the result was great!
Bring on the next one 😊

🚨 New video going live this Sunday at 08:00 on our YouTube channel. 👀
Following on from Part 1, we’re back on the dyno with this awesome spec Td5 Defender 90 to dial it in, but in our quest for perfection, we uncover several fuel system problems, preventing us from attaining our smoke free performance goal.
It’s a long journey, that shows the level of detail we go to in the pursuit of excellence, as we isolate and document every problem, showing the steps taken to address them and to prove the results on our state of the art MAHA MSR500 rolling road.
All engine modifications were carefully dialled in on our dyno, with Alive’s unique engine calibration software, bringing it all together.
The final result is nothing short of spectacular, with a high powered Td5 that delivers performance, handling and dare we say it, comfort, in this otherwise fairly standard looking Land Rover!

The dyno chart here shows the highest figures achieved on the day (235.9hp / 552Nm), but we had to back it off to clean it up and the final result was pretty spectacular!

✅ 209hp / 501Nm from our GTB450! 🤪🏁
Another really strong GTB450 installation this week, on this really clean, original looking Td5 110. 😁
Presented to us, we ran it on the dyno and it only made 90hp and 236Nm so was way down on stock power. We quickly diagnosed this as a faulty MAF and standard power was restored. 👍
On with the modifications and we installed the following ALIVE goodies…
Ultimate intercooler
GTB450 turbo kit
Downpipe and full exhaust
ITG Air filter
Uprated clutch kit
Boost hoses (inc breather)
Tachometer/ Rev Counter
and of course a new MAF sensor!
Back on the dyno and with our unique ARM VNT software
installed, this Defender made a seriously impressive 209hp with a breathtaking 501Nm! 😲🔥🏁🤪
The icing on the cake here is that this conversion has no exhaust smoke whatsoever. 😁 As you can see on the video here, a full throttle pull in 4th gear, from 1000rpm and it’s as clean as the factory Td5! 🙌
Carefully calibrated and perfectly programmed, that’s the ALIVE effect! 🙂

It’s been a long time since I’ve had to do this! Dusted off the old BDM jig for this 2008 G4 Edition Discovery 3 TDV6 ECU, which has been sent in to us for testing, from a car with serious engine issues.
This ECU had been “tuned” previously and I could see in the calibration how the injectors would have been stressed way beyond their design capabilities, which also caused a lot of exhaust smoke too!
All reset back to factory stock for now, whilst the engine issues are being dealt with, then this car will be gracing our awesome MAHA MSR500 dyno for a proper Alive remap.
ULTRA4 EUROPE 2023 was brutal!
Most teams suffered some kind of structural damage and the Alive sponsored teams were no exception. Seemingly with little more than good luck, some teams were spared the heartache of severe damage, and with a determined team spirit, they managed to overcome and get back out to battle on.
Unfortunately for Team sharp, they’d suffered catastrophic damage to a suspension joint, which sadly couldn’t “just be welded up”.
Also due to a structural problem, AON 4x4 #919 were unable to complete at this event, which we’re gutted about. 😕
Tom Britain (Team BBS Racing) also suffered serious mechanical issues, in particular, losing power steering, which brought his race to a premature end.
One team that got lucky was Team Field Fabrication, who absolutely sent their Stock Class Disco Td5, to take the First Place spot on the podium. 🏆 🏁 Well done guys👍
We’re delighted to say that all our teams have super strong, highly competitive and most importantly, reliable engines to help power their teams to success. Martyn was on site all weekend with the Alive 110, providing help, guidance and support to our teams (and many others!) throughout the event. 🙂
Thanks to all our teams for their tireless hard work and dedication to the sport! 👏
Unit next time…
Tomorrow morning, we leave to support our teams racing at the ULTRA4 EUROPE King of Britain event at walters arena.
With 37 vehicles competing it’s going to make for some exciting, and almost certainly close racing!
Spectators are welcome to come and enjoy the atmosphere and entry to the event is completely free.
See you there! 🏁
Who wanted to see us test our Td5 90 on an independent dyno? 👀🤔
Well, this morning we participated in the with Tom Davies.
