Thank you all SO MUCH for joining us on our BUSIEST WEEKEND EVER! After months of planning, the gallery opening night was amazing, the street party was a huge success and today’s treacle Sunday went great! We are so happy to have such loyal customers and are now ready for a big big sleep, Jim’s already started his nap.

From Miranda:

“In what feels to me to be an open chapter my life takes many turns: a 1st class degree in English Language and Literature; a career as a City of London solicitor; a published writer of short stories; volunteering for Refuge; a period of teaching English and a present focus on my art and writing.

Through every avenue of life has shone an ongoing love of my art: painting and sketching for much of the day from being a very small child…

In ‘Dreaming Spires: Night by Light’:

As an adult I love watching and listening to the trees whispering nervously in the wind; soothing birdsong scattered amongst.

The trees stand sometimes as the freedom of the night through the shiny glass of the window and those other times the sole sturdy dignity conquering the night’s void; especially of those darkest hours and moments just before the dawn.

The sliver of a silver path traces through the bountiful moods of the trees to make it through the darkness of the night to the eager and eternal tunnel of light which one day in its beauty will ensconce us in a burning star of rebirth”.

We have so many talented artists at our Summer exhibition TOMORROW NIGHT! Here's one now! This is Cheryl Maslen:

"I am a printmaker, predominantly working in linocut printing. The act of making lino cuts feels almost sculptural and I love working through the stages of designing, carving and hand printing each coloured layer, never really knowing what the outcome will be.
I mostly work by layering warm colours and gradient inks, encouraging feelings of calm and joy in the viewer.
Nature is my biggest inspiration and being surrounded by vast landscapes really feeds my creativity.
The hikes and views around Macclesfield have influenced many of my pieces!"

Announcing the next artist joining us for our Summer exhibition - Nadya Lamara! Here's a few words about her from the artist herself:

"Originally from France, I came to the Manchester area and settled here several years ago. After many years painting in my home studio, I finally left my corporate career behind to pursue my art full-time. 

I can't say for sure how this journey will turn out, but one thing I do know is that I can't ignore this passionate calling any longer. It’s a wild ride fuelled by the unstoppable force of passion. The challenges and achievements along the way give me strength and infuse my art with the power of passion and transformation. It is my hope that through my paintings, I can convey this power and inspire others to follow their own bliss, whatever it may be.

My mission is to help people connect with their playful side using my art and art workshops as an outlet to provide downtime, mindfulness and joy. This could be through the acquisition and private enjoyment of an original piece or print from my unique collections (be sure to check out my website to find your favourite www.nlmodernart.com) or by getting your hands dirty and experiencing first-hand the pleasures of creating art at my art workshops.

In the world of paint, I find solace, peace, and joy. I'm in my happy place when I paint, and I hope that joy radiates from my artwork. Ultimately, my goal is simple: to spread joy wherever my artworks find a home🎨✨"

WE ARE 2 THIS WEEK! We’ve now been officially open for two whole years!
Honestly it seems like only two months ago that we opened the cafe, I can’t believe it’s been so long. Thank you so much to all of our amazing customers who keep us going and keep coming back for amazing coffee! If you've been a long term patron of the Monocle, you may have seen his work up on the walls here before. His beautiful landscapes combined with abstract imagery and satirical animals speak for themselves, but they're a true marvel in person, so definitely check them out at our upcoming exhibition!

The exhibition launches on Friday 28th June at 6pm, all are welcome!

Artist #4 exhibiting their work at the exhibition on the 28th June - Mike Waldron!

"I am an expressionist painter living in Macclesfield. I was born and raised in East Manchester and have my studio in Bollington. Much of my art encapsulates stories and dynamic tensions between protagonists, people and nature, city and rural environment. I believe that all art is about how it is made, and love to experiment with diverse techniques, media, platforms and subjects. I never want to standstill. I make paintings to express what I feel, and to provide commentary. I want it to go beyond what is purely decorative, and to spark a reaction, raise a question; and when on the wall- to continue the dialogue that began in my studio."

Our next workshop is learning how to be more mindful while creating art. No experience is needed, just an open mind and a creative spark!

"I’m a self-employed, illustrator and commercial photographer, with most of my illustration business based around my hand-drawn pen and watercolour illustrations, from city scenes and individual buildings to bespoke commissions.

I’m from Crewe originally and have been in Macclesfield since getting married in 2008. About 4 years ago I started to illustrate the architecture of Macclesfield, as I didn’t feel that enough of a fuss was made about the beautiful buildings that we have here. I received SO much positivity and encouragement that I started selling them and I now have so many regular customers and supporters all keen to show, and share, their love for the architecture of Macclesfield!"
