Did you know that when your ear is free from wax you can see the ossicles through your tympanic membrane. These are the tiny little bones in your inner ear also known as the hammer, anvil and stirrup. You can see them because your tympanic membrane (ear drum) is only 0.1mm thick. It is very thin and delicate and any damage will impact your hearing, possibly for life.

I found this old ear syringe on Ebay this week. Looks lethal doesn't it 😂.
This is where the term ear syringing comes from even though what we do is actually called irrigation.
Unfortunately this can lead to some confusion as I have had people tell me that they have been told syringing is bad for you. Well they are right but irrigation ( what we do) is perfectly safe and recommended by the National Institure of Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Just spoke to a parent who tells me that the current wait for ENT wax removal services for children is 54 weeks.
