🥪 Bread bread bread - Oh how we love you but how you bloat us! 🤷🏻♀️ We know you are part responsible for our menopause belly, but what else other than a sandwich is there for lunch? 💪🏻 As women in mid-life we’d all benefit from eating less carbs. 🥱 I am shattered, I have social media fatigue and it’s the holidays so I’ve been told to take some of own advice and have a break! ✍️ Funny that - I talk to women every day about prioritising time for themselves and then realised I’ve always taken work away with me on every holiday for the last 5 years… the life of a self employed business owner never ends when you’re working ‘flexible hours’ and there is always something to do or a post to plan. ⛅️ So here’s me signing off for a good week or possibly two, listening and watching some real world stuff. Eat them as a beetroot salad or roasted as wedges with olive oil, salt & pepper. 🥕 Carrots: Great for your skin, eyes & immunity. Try as an Asian-inspired carrot & cabbage slaw. 🥬 Cabbage: Helps with hormone detoxification & better gut health. Eat as a slaw or grilled and served as steaks with olive oil and black pepper. 🍅 Tomatoes: Part of the heart healthy Mediterranean diet and rich in vitamin C, which is good for pretty much everything... including hormones, skin, aging, heart & bones. 🥄 Save your money on probiotic supplements and eat more of these kinds of foods instead 🦠 Probiotics are your beneficial tummy bugs, they keep your gut and brain happy and are great for your immune system. Did you know that 70% of your immunity lives in your gut and 95% of serotonin (your happy brain chemical) is made there? 🚗 We have a number of so-called car park spaces in our gut that need to be filled with good cars, not bad ones, so we need to ensure sure the good ones drive past the car park regularly so they can fill the spaces as the unhelpful ones leave – scientific hey? ⭐️ Eating small amounts of pro-biotic food regularly is the best way because pro-biotic food contains way more beneficial things as well as the probiotic part. 💊 Taking probiotic supplements can be helpful, but they all contain different types and levels of bacteria, and dependant on what you are taking them for different strains work better for different symptoms. Plus long-term it can cause a disruption of the natural balance, so it’s worth getting proper advice from a health practitioner or a good supplement company. 🥥 Oh and please don‘t waste your money on pro-biotic drinks such as Yakult. 👩🏻🍳 I’m cooking! Today’s it’s my favourite HRT loaf. 🍞 I’m not going to go into detail why it’s good for you – its the holidays and time is precious... but apart from being low carb, high protein, gluten free and full of menopause ‘good stuff’ it just is. Trust me! 📝Recipe: • 120g cup ground almonds • 60g cup buckwheat flour • 3 free-range eggs • 2 tbsp ground flax seeds or linseeds • 2tsp chia seeds • 2tsp mixed seeds • 1tsp arrowroot powder • 0.5tsp baking powder • 0.5tsp sea salt • 0.25tsp bicarb of soda • 0.5tsp apple cider vinegar • 1tsp dried or fresh rosemary • 2tsp extra virgin olive oil 🥣 Method: • Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Pre-heat oven to 180oc. • Stir in the vinegar, extra virgin olive oil & eggs. Mix well. • Grease a small loaf tin with olive oil and pour in the mix. • Bake for 20–25mins until golden brown and cooked in the middle. I spend a few minutes wracking my brain, then sometimes retrace my steps, blame being too busy or distracted and then concide I’m either loosing my mind or it’s bloody perimenopause! 👵🏼 Whilst I can laugh about it, it can be pretty scary.
