25KG ALTAR is a presentation of power. A bearing of weight, slipping through fingers. When the ink cracks, what shows through the stains. Held in place by pure will, forced to fall, inevitable. As the light fades through the windows of a converted office block, filled with one yearās obsession, are you reminded of evening mass? A ritual regurgitated from memory through the gaping mouth of modernity, like a printer forcingĀ sheets, losing power.

EBELTOFT
On Thursday I made the crazy decision to travel outside of Aarhus and visit the beautiful small town of Ebeltoft. Crazy because I decided to do the 3+ hour journey there on a bikeā¦
I went up there to visit & a fabulous cultural centre at the heart of this coastal town. The space, resources and overall support they receive is incredible and spurs me on to push the boundaries of what is capable of.
The highlight of the visit was hearing the current artists in residence talk about their work and how their stay in Ebeltoft had influenced their work. Thank you & for the insights into both your practices!
A very short but sweet trip but this town has certainly left its mark on my thinking! 24 hours, 96km and one LUXURY sea view room (sometimes life knows when to throw you a free upgradeā¦)
To be continued, Ebeltoft!
P.s for you cycling enthusiasts out there, swipe to the end to see what I stupidly navigated the route and rolling hills onā¦
UPCOMING EXHIBITION
This week we begin install for TESTAMENT, a group show hosted by and featuring Maeve Thompson, Victoria Mehr & Bertie (bear) Thomas.
TESTAMENT crosses territories of memory, folk histories and sentimentality; with an emphasis on individual practices rooted in woodwork, casting and textile. The selected works are an ode to the once familiar corners of childhood homes, a tribute to sworn secrets, and traded stickers; a song for the passing places of country lanes, and the bolder optimists staring directly into the sun.
Join us on Wednesday 1st May from 6-9pm for the launch; then the exhibition continues by appointment until 7th May.
For more information, or to schedule an appointment you can get in touch via [email protected]
Weāve got a little May Bank Holiday treat in store for you all courtesy of Handbook in Motion.
Join us on 27th May from 7pm-10pm for Tara Clerkin Trio (live)
Tara Clerkin Trio are Pat Benjamin, Sunny Joe Paradisos and Tara Clerkin, three musicians involved in a number of cult Bristol bands over the years before confidently settling down in triangle formation. They are inspired by and borrow from jazz, trip hop, electronica, psychedelia & minimalism, twirling the non-pretentious strands of these threads together into a trippy green winged-cloak, adorning Arthur Russell and dripping in blue jam.
Also joining us on the evening will be: Puma (DJ) spinning Latin American & influenced sounds - expect vintage Salsa, Cumbia, Mambo; as well as Handbook in Motion resident DJ, Josh Lentink.
Tickets are available via the link in our bio - - go go go!

UPCOMING EVENT
February is shaping up to be a busy one for us! Weāve just added another event to our calendar, this one is super limited so grab your free tickets whilst your can! š¤šļø
Join us on Thursday 29th February from 6pm-9pm for Method Over Matter, an expanded film performance by artist Jenny Baines.
As part of the projectĀ New Arrangements, artist Jenny Baines will be presenting a new body of work as an expanded film performance, which incorporates a series of 16mm film loops projected onto free-standing structures. The worksā arrangement creates different rhythms and patterns of movement, through which the audience can freely move. In each of the 16mm films the artist performs a physical action, which collectively explore the relationship between the body, screen and space.Ā
Tickets are FREE but limited so head to the link in our bio to grab yours!
ABOUT NEW ARRANGEMENTS
New Arrangements is a collaborative project initiated by artists Jenny Baines and Anna Macdonald. It brings the two artistsā practices into contact for the first time, aiming to explore the creative potential of working in-situ with another person through active processes of thinking and making.Ā
New Arrangements departs from the artistsā synchronous use of choreographic, pared back statements to explore the durational qualities of the body as material and film as document. Bainesā work takes the form of performance for camera, whilst Macdonaldās operates within screendance. Both artists explore the relationship of the body, screen and space and how this is navigated through the production and display of their work. New Arrangements serves to collapse the barriers between sculptural form, film and dance making. Interweaving layers of relation, creation, and a process of āworking things outā through doing, arranging and rearranging.

Initially inspired by Jean Genetās āUn Chant Dāamourā, the brick wall has become a recognisable trope and motif of Liamās Practice, with this architectural facade acting as a separation between private and public but also acting as the setting for things to unfold. At a first glance, this seems reminiscent of things encountered before but there is a false facade at play and quickly, as the reality begins to unfold and these things begin to theatrically perform.

We need more space already š©¶
With our current studios full and a planned curatorial programme thatās bursting at the seams, we need more space to be able to host the different events and projects that keep coming our way.
Weāve found a spare floor in our building that might just be perfect for this! Itās big enough for a dedicated events space, a bar, but also has space for up to 3 private, lockable studios.
We imagine these suiting musicians, producers or designers but all creative practitioners are welcome.
Before we commit to this (and ANOTHER) refurb, we are taking expressions of interest for people to take on the studios.
Share this far & wide and if youāre interested, get in touch via [email protected]
Still not quite over how wonderful the Drag & Draw event was last Friday!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the first in this series of events hosted by
And a special thank you to the team for bringing this event to life, and also thank you to the performers and for singing and dancing the house down boots! We are still finding rhinestones in the galleryā¦!
Stay tuned for news on the next Drag & Draw event!
Weāre gearing up to launch our first ever CROWDFUNDER!
Since our inception in May 2021, we've been at the forefront of hosting diverse exhibitions, events, residencies, and collaborations, fostering a vibrant space for artists, thinkers, writers, and researchers. In April 2023, we found our home in Stockport at the iconic building. With the first phase of renovation complete, we're ready for the next steps, and your support is key.
Next week, we're launching a crowdfunder campaign seeking Ā£10,000. This will cover the final essential refurbishment costs as well as kickstarting our curatorial programme. With your help, we will create a dedicated gallery space/programme, commission bespoke artworks to furnish the space, and establish a community workshop/space.
But wait, weāve decided to do Crowdfunders a little differentlyā¦
What sets PINK apart is our unwavering artist-centric ethos. Guided by a deliberately unhurried approach, PINK works in close collaboration with artists over extended periods of time. Recognising that this approach demands extended and sustained effort from artists, we want to be able to provide support that matches, ensuring they are equipped with the right resources throughout their time with us.
To achieve this, we will be directing 70% of all artwork sales back to our artists to ensure that they have the resources to produce their most ambitious work to date.
Itās a āhelp us, to help artistsā kind of thing!
Our crowdfunder will launch on 4th Dec 2023 at 6pm and will run for 8-weeks. There will be a BIG mix of artwork and non-artwork rewards available across a range of price points, with new artists being added as the Crowdfunder goes on.
Up until now, PINK has been entirely self-funded. But weāve gone as far as we can. With your help we can complete the final stages of refurbishment and fill a void in Stockport, providing a platform for ambitious and innovative contemporary art.
For more information, get in touch via [email protected]

Where we began, and where we are going š©¶
Itās hard to believe that our gallery space ever looked like this. Some might say that weāve blocked out the pain (emotional and physicalā¦) it caused to get it to where it is today.
Others say itās representative of the hard work and sheer determination of the self-organised, artist-led scene. One that we are proud to be a part of.
We are putting the finishing touches in place, including furniture, walls and other necessities - as well as working on securing funding and building a crowdfunding campaign. But we have some exciting projects and events in our diary already! You can see whatās on via our Instagram or head to our website www.pink-mcr.com
In the meantime, we are open by appointment. So if youād like to come and visit get in touch via [email protected]

PINK is proud to present its inaugural event at Hilton House: Croon Harvest, by the Manchester-based composer Jack Sheen.
An hour long performance-installation, Croon Harvest centres on the voiceās most hushed, unprojected state, in which blemishes and grain ornament the workās gentle tapestry of mumbled lamentations and white noise.
Occupying the entire second floor of Hilton House, the piece disperses the singers of Kantos and their audience across the empty space inside Stockportās iconic and, until recently, abandoned office block. Operating on the blurred lines between a concert performance and a sculptural installation, Croon Harvest presents an immersive listening experience, through which one is free to move and settle as the work glacially and ritualistically unfolds.
Originally conceived for PINKās then half-complete 86 Princess Street space in 2021, versions of Croon Harvest have since been commissioned and realised across Europe at the Venice Biennale, Casa de Serralves (Porto), and Resonance FM (London).
Jack Sheen (1993) is a composer and conductor from Manchester, England. His practice spans composing orchestral music and conducting operas to creating sound-installations and long-duration performances. Recent projects include collaborations with the Royal Opera House, London Symphony Orchestra, and Baselās Schaulager with artist Matthew Barney. His latest album, Solo for Cello, was released in July by The Trilogy Tapes.

ā¢
Itās been a strange time. We have had to navigate multiple attempts at opening during 2020 ~ and this is still on-going ~ but what this has given us is the space and time we needed to think through the form and structure of PINK and outwardly share the ideas and research that have emerged during this process.
ā¢
Over this last year, we have launched our website with a dedicated online space for research resources, founded and created the artistic research journal OFF_CENTRE, brought together multiple artists in our monthly discussion group DIALOGUES, and most importantly secured a future for ourselves and our artists with a successful Arts Council Applicationā¦finally....
ā¢
Itās all been an attempt to ground and build a project that oscillates between a space, an infrastructure and a resource. A space to unfold experimental practices in close collaboration with artists, curators, writers, poets and many more; crossing knowledge fields to practice a critical fascination.
ā¢
Our task over the next year is to create space, so that things can happen rather than just be shown; be researched instead of represented ~ held within the space of a constructed constellation, and here are the starting positions.
