Join us for an enchanting evening of poetry, as we warmly welcome Manchester poet, Anthony Brough, back to Cheadle—the very place where his remarkable life journey commenced.
A former student of Cheadle Primary School and Broadway Comprehensive school, Anthony's poetry promises to be a heartfelt recollection of cherished memories from his formative years.
Forged in the midst of a 1970s council estate, this collection of finely crafted poems narrates a journey spanning 55 years. Anthony’s debut poetry collection invites us on an unflinching odyssey through time and place. Across five decades and three continents, his verses vividly illuminate his evolution from a scruffy working-class youth to an inspiring educator and astute social commentator.
Rooted in the working-class traditions of both Manchester and Liverpool, "Across the Line" offers stolen glimpses into the ordinary life of growing up on an everyday estate. The poems unfold against the backdrop of the natural world and a post-industrial landscape, tracing the trajectory of a life. Infused with Northern lyricism and wit, these poems guide readers through the wonders of nature, the warmth of burgeoning friendships, and occasionally, the stark impact of unvarnished truth.
Contained within "Across the Line" lies a heartfelt call to challenge the constraints that confine us and instead embrace life's myriad adventures.
