It was an honour and privilege to work with lighting designer Nigel Catmur and BBC Events in the Bayeux War Cemetery for the commemoration of D Day 80. It’s been a very busy few weeks here at ELP, supplying the lighting technology and technical support on a range of broadcasts across the UK.

Last month, we found ourselves supplying equipment and crew for all four OB units for ‘Newsnight: On the Road’ in Doncaster, Paisley, Monmouthshire and Duxford. We worked on Pawb A’I Farn for S4/C on-site in both Swansea and Pontyberem. Staying with political programmes, we also worked on Politics Live, broadcast on BBC2.

For news broadcasts, we worked on-site at Gateshead for both the BBC News at Six and News at Ten, as well as providing lighting equipment on the OB for BBC Breakfast’s 500 Words Competition. We also continued our work on Inside Classical, which was broadcast on BBC4, and saw us working on location at Glasgow City Halls and Alexandra Palace.

Finally, we were on hand to support the coverage of A Service of Celebration for Commonwealth Day, which was attended by the Royal Family, broadcast live on BBC1 as well as the Easter Sunday Service from Canterbury Cathedral which was also broadcast live on BBC1.

For these projects, we had the pleasure of working with Lighting Designers Rob Jones, Hilary Parker, Bernie Davis, Roger Williams, Elliot Carman, Nigel Catmur, Andy Cottey and Tony James, along with Gaffers Darren Fletcher, Sinbad, Matt Smith and Mark Gardiner.

d&b group opens ground-breaking new immersive technology experience centre at London’s iconic Science Museum – d&b solutions d&b group, the global event technology specialist and provider of professional AVLM solutions, has announced the opening of a new immersive technology experience centre (ITEC), located at the world-renowned Science Museum in London, itself famed as a centre for the arts and capital of creativity.

Last week, we were at the Guildhall providing the technical support for ‘The Queen’s Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education’ Gala Dinner. The Dinner was held prior to the winners visiting Buckingham Palace the following day to receive their awards, which were handed out by Her Majesty the Queen. The event saw us draw on the Astera AX5 TriplePAR LEDs which have recently been added to our hire stock. The crew included Bob 'Sinbad' Dunne, George Thruston, Colin Monk and Bruce Wardorf, whilst production was overseen by Nick Brooks-Ward of HPower Group.

Our latest images are from an Inside Classical recording with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra at dock10 studios in Manchester. The episode included a live insert into last week's BBC Children in Need broadcast.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of John Pomphrey. We worked alongside John on many shows from BBC Manchester, both in Studio and Outside Broadcasts. His humour, stories, skills and waistcoats will be greatly missed.

What a busy couple of weeks it’s been for political television broadcasts! Our team has been delivering multiple live shows for the BBC, in conjunction with the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool and Conservative Party Conference in Manchester.
