Happy Birthday to the rock behind the Stationery Supplies empire - the lesser-spotted Matthew (AKA Mappers!)

The one who saves me from man-eating spiders, who turns his hand to almost any DIY job I throw at him, copes with me leaving cupboard doors and drawers open constantly, never grumbles at how wide awake I am at 6am or that I'm still at work at 7pm, patiently helps with all IT issues but always says ' have you tried switching it off and on again', happily fetches coffee and cake on stressful days and is overall a kind, generous all round good egg.

Well folks, 'back to school' stationery shopping is in full swing this week! So much so that I had to do an emergency pencil case order!

However, in true Laker fashion I forgot to take a photo so you'll just have to pop in and take a look! 🤦👀

We have a super-duper collaboration coming up...

For this year's Thinking of You Week we are teaming up with the wonderful Tracey from everyone's favourite Greeting Card Publisher: Ginger Betty Cards !

On Saturday 21st September, from 10am to 2pm, Tracey will be at our *Wilmslow* shop offering personalised sketches in exchange for a suggested donation of £5 to the East Cheshire Hospice .

In addition to meeting Tracey and seeing her sketch live we will also have on offer:
- a raffle
- a stationery lucky dip
- delicious homemade ginger biscuits
- a live cello performance

Thinking of You Week is a heartfelt week that sees people across the world send cards to friends, loved ones, work colleagues or neighbours, to say: hello, thinking of you, share a joke or just to reach out and connect.

We will be posting more about the day as it draws closer so watch this space!

I was never a high achiever at school, I scraped 6 low grade O levels (yes I'm that old!) and 1 A level.

So when I took on Stationery Supplies in 2005 I had virtually no retail experience. I didn't have a business degree, or any training in sales, marketing or accounts. I didn't even have a business plan! (And still don't )

But I knew I had common sense, a strong work ethic and a love of stationery, community and people.

Exam results do not define you. Believe in yourself.

I shouted my hubby to come and perform a staplectomy and his first reaction was to take a photo! 🙄🙄😂

(And no he didn't use a staple remover!)

I know that starting secondary school is an expensive time and that many parents need to spread the cost.

So with this in mind, I've come up with two basic stationery sets. Based on Marple Hall School's stationery list and with good quality items that will last.

The basic £10 set contains:
1 x clear pencil case made from 90% recycled materials
1 x Helix protractor
1 x Helix Oxford compass
1 x Helix pencil with eraser
1 x Helix Oxford 2 hole canister pencil sharpener
1 x Helix Oxford eraser
1 x 15 cm Helix Ruler
2 x Zebra black Z-grip ballpoint pen
1 x Zebra red Z-grip ballpoint pen

The £15 pack contains the above plus these extra items:
1 x yellow highlighter
1 x 11g pritt stick
1 x pack of 12 Maped colouring pencils

Available both in our Marple shop and online. We can also swap the red pen for green, purple or pink - depending on your schools choice of marking colour.

I also have a shop bursting with 1001 amazing other items, that your child might also 'need' to start their next school journey, so do pop along and have a browse.

I honestly really appreciate your custom, far more than any online or chain store or supermarket do.

As I announce that this year's Marple Charity calendar is now on sale!

The charity for 2025 is Marple Dementia Drop In who will receive £1 for every calendar we sell.

This is the 7th calendar I've produced, raising a total of £1300 for local charities.

They are £7.50 each. And as ever are a totally local calendar with photos picked by Mark Whittaker of The Marple Website Marple Local History Society Archives and The Virtual History Tour of Marple and printed by Marc and Lynn at HB Printing.
