What CAN you do?
It’s a simple question that, in itself, is an act of self care….
Change…
It’s a funny thing, change.
The thought of it can create such a resistance in us; a discomfort, a fear, even dread.
Yet, here we are, in an ever changing world.
👉 Our environments changing around us constantly.
👉 Other people’s opinions and decisions changing without warning.
👉 Events throwing curve balls like little bombs for us to react to.
When change is forced upon us, we deal with it. It’s inevitable, and we find a way.
You’ve survived them all, every change… and you continue to do so.
But somehow, the thought of implementing change, on purpose, can seem a world away.
Just recognise your ability to cope with change, whether it’s good, terrifying or just unwanted.
Maybe that will allow you to consider changes you’d like to make “on purpose”.
👌recognise what no longer serves you
👌get clear on WHY you feel the change is right for you
👌notice the worries that come up and make a plan to manage those
👌tell someone about your plan, if that will help you stay accountable
Give change a chance!

4) LIMITING BELIEFS
This is perhaps the “mother-load” when we think about what we might want to let go of!

Less, Not More… the power in letting go 4) Limiting Beliefs Well, we’ve just hit the mother load when we think about what we might want to let go of!Limiting beliefs exist, to some degree, in all of us. They are often unconscious thoughts, which serve to help us avoid pain, disappointment or failure. In other words they serve to “keep...

Client feedback is NOT why I do the job, but it IS a reason to keep doing it with a big smile on my face.
By creating a safe space to discuss his fears and anxiety, offering tools and strategies to cope, and using hypnotherapy to adjust his reactions, this guy is now off to Uni… and excited about it. What a legend. 💪🔥
I couldn’t be happier.

Less Not More - the power in letting go. 1. responsibilities I promised a mini series of blogs on the subject of “letting go”, as it’s increasingly apparent that many of us are pretty good at holding onto things, people and beliefs that simply don’t serve us.In fact, I’d go further and say, we hold on to too many things that can ...
“HOW ARE YOU?”
“Fine!” 🙂 You say, without thinking. On auto-pilot. Polite. Simple. Unproblematic.
Maybe you ARE fine 👌👌👌
And sure… most people who ask “how are you?” are probably not expecting the full unfettered version…
But YOU are not MOST PEOPLE.
You are YOU; the person who takes care of you; hears your every thought; feels your every emotion.
So if you do one kind thing for yourself today, ask yourself this
“How do I really feel? What do I need?”

Less, Not More - the power in letting go All too often we think about, discuss or simply focus on what we want more of. MoneyBreaksPossessionsTimeLoveSupport…the list goes on. My client sent me this 😂
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again -
Therapy itself isn’t funny BUT
- clients can be hilarious
- a safe space encourages humour as well as tears
- it’s not ALL deep reflection and processing
- self awareness of our personal challenges and behaviours (as my client demonstrates beautifully with this meme) is the first step to change…
Overthinking is real
It can become debilitating
Change is possible
He’s decided to tackle that, (and not just with humour!). And he will… this is just the start.

IT’S ALL ABOUT PERSPECTIVE, RIGHT?
(AN UNEXPECTED PART 2!)
Well, that was interesting …
My inbox got super busy straight after my initial post on this subject, last week (link below if you’re interested).
Maybe that’s down to it being a post about personal experience. Perhaps it just hit a nerve with some of you.
Either way, the original post on “perspective” prompted messages relating to one challenge in particular; negative thinking!
Due to our primitive survival instincts, our thinking can be naturally fear-led. This is the protective brains way of attempting to establish all risks, in order to keep us “safe”.
This, in turn, can have us focussing, almost habitually on our
# challenges
# short comings
# failings
as opposed to our
# strengths
# opportunities
# qualities
Maybe next time you find yourself immersed in thoughts about what you haven’t achieved yet, can’t succeed at or won’t have time for…, at work, at home, in life! ….
Perhaps you might entertain a new perspective
Try focussing your thoughts on
👉 everything you HAVE achieved
👉 those things you’ve got RIGHT
👉 your list of SUCCESSES
Because it’s all about perspective.
The struggles and the achievements all exist.
It’s our choice which we decide to focus on.
Whether we place our attention on the positives or the negatives, we are going to feel the effects!
Small, consistent changes in our focus, such as this, can make a big impact.
If you’d like help with managing negative thinking, feel free to get in touch.

IT’S ALL ABOUT PERSPECTIVE, RIGHT?
I‘m not long back from a lovely holiday in Crete. 2 weeks of sunshine and no timetable… pretty nice!
I reflected on my work while I had the headspace, and recognised that I really needed to dedicate some quality time to
- developing a couple of business ideas that have popped up time and time again, driven by client needs and my own interest
- really being present with my parents, rather than the constant popping in as their needs gradually evolve
- prioritising my own health needs (check ups/ appointments etc) that have taken a serious back seat In recent months
1 week back and I had 4 cancellations for this week… pretty unusual, but it happens.
Initial, gut reaction?
Discomfort.
🤔 I like being busy
🤔 I like being useful
🤔 I like having purpose
🤔 Let‘s be honest… I like feeling liked!
So I chose to see things from a different angle.
People cancel all the time…. It’s probably not a conspiracy! 😉
You needed more time …. Now you’ve got it! 🙌
There are opportunities - we just don’t always see them! 👀
So here’s a gentle reminder, from me to you.
If you always look for the problem, disappointment or negative, trust me, you’ll find it and more than likely, focus on it.
If you allow yourself to look for the opportunity within a challenge … you’ll probably find that, along with your ability to grow, to learn, to change, to overcome.
It really can be all about the perspective.
Need help looking at something from a new angle?

How high up your list of priorities are you?
Read that again…
And maybe, once more…
Perhaps you are fabulous at listening to your needs and taking care of them.
Or, perhaps not 🤷🏻♀️
If you recognise that everyone and everything is catered for in your list of roles and responsibilities, except YOU, you might benefit from a little rethink.
👉I know you’re busy
👉I know you feel you can’t let anyone down
👉You may worry about upsetting others
👉Perhaps you even recognise you’re a people pleaser
Well… How about not letting YOU down, how about not upsetting YOU?
YOU’RE “people”.
YOU matter.
It’s not selfish to consider our own needs. It’s our responsibility. It doesn’t stop you caring about others. If anything, self compassion leads to greater compassion all round.
Try this…
Check your diary and take notice if your needs feature in there in the same way other people’s do? If not, can you look at how you might change that to ensure you are taking care of you?
Give it some thought…

Is It Time To Let Go?
If this image resonates with you, it might be that you feel somewhat stuck, weighed down by, or fixated by your past. The stories we tell ourselves about our past, certainly influence how we feel about our present and our future.
What we believe, quite simply, becomes our truth.
(No THE truth, but OUR truth).
This can prove problematic if we what we believe is inherently negative, pessimistic or is centred around low self-belief.
Therapy can help in a number of ways IF you feel ready to shift your thoughts and feelings to gain greater freedom moving forwards.
PROCESSING
👌 the act of working through past traumas, heartaches, losses or disappointments, can be surprisingly liberating. With the passing of time, we can often reflect differently on past events if we give ourselves the opportunity to do so, in a structured, safe and gentle way.
REFRAMING
👌 a process of adjusting an old, tired and probably unhelpful narrative about an event or outcome that keeps us stuck in negativity. This can have surprisingly helpful impacts on our general ability to view situations more objectively going forward, as well as helping us to move forward.
HYPNOTHERAPY
👌 a relaxing and safe way to “view” what’s really troubling us about an event or situation. The process allows us to “remember” rather than simply “recall” the details, meaning we can revivicate the feelings associated with the event and let them go.
Don’t let your past hold you back from the future you desire.

Ups & Downs
When we’re in a dip, we rarely find the perspective needed to feel reassured that it’s not forever.
THIS 💙
It’s all very well having friends and acquaintances telling us to “look at the positives”, or “count your blessings”, (good advice), but let’s be honest, we really need to fundamentally grasp that NOTHING stays the same.
The good stuff
The crappy stuff
It ALL changes
So if you need a reminder right now, maybe you can take comfort in the demonstration below; not only is change coming, but change is often aided by the dips in life, creating momentum and movement forward.
It’s a perspective many of clients will be familiar with through our sessions, but here it is, beautifully demonstrated.

Now repeat after me… No, I’m NOT fine actually.
I mean, if you are, then, great!
But for most of us, at dfferent times, and to varying degrees, we are most definitely NOT fine.
If that’s you right now
- be gentle with yourself
- tell someone you’re not ok
- seek help and support
- recognise you’re probably doing your best
It’s ok.
It’s going to change.
But for now, perhaps, take extra care of yourself.

A client sent me this meme today…
I laughed like a drain.
Therapy is NOT funny, but sometimes clients are!
Yes at times there are tears, but there are also smiles.
Yes we talk about BIG issues, but we also just build rapport.
Yes they sometimes feel challenged, but they also feel safe.
They are brave. I appreciate and respect them greatly.
To each and everyone of my clients - Thanks for really “showing up”
Are you a “hoodie” or a “cloak” wearer in terms of confidence right now?? 👇
Or maybe something else entirely?
Our confidence can fluctuate depending on our stress levels, environment and experiences, so it’s good to know what steps we can take to build and strengthen our confidence on a daily basis.
Here are 5 highly effective’s ways to be aware of
1) Boost your belief - whether that’s being clear on your personal beliefs and values or reminding yourself of your abilities, BELIEF is a great way to build confidence.
2) Challenge yourself- you know that wonderful feeling when you push yourself and achieve something new… You actually expand your comfort zone! So even if it doesn’t go to plan, you’ve still gained confidence.
3) Value your limitations - obsessing about things we can’t do well is NOT a confidence boost… it can do real harm to be plagued by inadequacy rather than giving yourself a break.
4) Praise yourself and your achievements - keep a record! There’s much evidence that we quickly forget our accomplishments AND the ways they’ve benefitted others. So remind yourself, and give your confidence a boost.
5) Picture your confident self - visualisation is more than a nice idea. It’s a highly effective tool to affect how we feel. (Think of all those times you’ve imagined the worst happening - feels awful right?!). Practice “seeing” a confident version of you, and familiarise yourself with how that will feel.
Now get that dope-a$$ cloak ready… 😉

STOP!!
Yes you.
(Especially if you think you’re too busy to!!)
Just for a moment.
✔️Unclench your jaw.
✔️Release the tension in your neck and let your shoulders drop.
✔️ Take a nice breath in, pause, then slooowly exhale.
✔️ Repeat the breathing above.
✔️ Let your stomach become soft.
✔️ Relax your thighs.
Nice! Now. What do you need?
A drink of water? A stretch? A quick chat? A look out the window? Or even a walk….
Then you can get back to being busy (but more productively and healthily)
Self care made easy.

OVERTHINKING??? 😩
Try this little gem.
Ask WHAT not WHY.
You might notice that much of your overthinking stems from “why” questions
Why did I say that?
Why do I feel like this?
Why didn’t they call me?
Why didn’t that work out?
Why can’t I get it right?
Why haven’t I been invited?
You get my drift….
The thing about “why” questions, (especially those relating to other people), is that there’s invariably not a clear, definite answer. Too many possibilities, nuances, perspectives.
This can cause all sorts of spiralling thought patterns, as our mind explores all (primarily negative) possibilities.
Classic overthinking right?
So here we go.
Can you ask WHAT not WHY?
There are 2 specific WHAT questions that help.
👉What do I feel?
👉What do I need?
There’s a good chance you’ll hit on the answers if you give these questions your attention. Your FULL attention.
It takes you straight into positive solution mode; Cutting off that overthinking journey.
Retraining the brain in a new way of thinking.
Want some help with breaking the overthinking habit? Here to help…
What not why.
Give it a try.
