newly hatched baby lobsters, swirling around their tank and feasting on Bowyers Mysis shrimp. If they run out of food they feast on each other! The dark critters are the baby lobsters and the white stuff is their food the frozen mysis shrimp. Our lobster hatchery runs from June until September when we will have a 1,000 baby lobsters to return to the wild.
Our snipefish and pipefish enjoying their afternoon feast on Bowyers Mysis, a fantastic product and sustainably sourced from the Dee estuary.
our sunstar was looking a bit peckish so we dropped a piece of sprat into his maw, the tube feet instantly trapped the food and working in unison with its fellow tube feet it passed the food along to its mouth, it's arms enveloped the food to assist with capture. There would be no escape for anything unfortunate enough to be captured.

Seahorses - there are around 40 known species of seahorse. They swim upright and can change their colour to blend in with their surroundings. They live in shallow coastal waters in coral reefs, mangroves, sea grass beds and estuaries. Only male seahorses have a brood pouch where they carry the fertilised eggs until they hatch. Love how the shrimp fish look like theyโre dancing!
Give us a pout! Fun facts about Longhorn cowfish - they have โhornsโ above their eyes, and a sloped profile to a puckered mouth giving them their cowfish name. They have eyes that look like galaxies ๐ And their horns can regrow if broken. #aquarium #longhorncowfish #cowfish #maryportaquarium #subtropicalwaterfish
Bee shrimps ๐ฆ are a species of small freshwater shrimp in the family Atyidae. They can be found in Taiwan, China and Japan. After fertilisation the female shrimp carries her eggs on her abdomen until they are ready to hatch in around 28 days. Bee shrimp are often found in groups in the wild and should be kept in a group of 5 and more in an aquarium. Great little critters to watch going about their daily lifeโs, like with koy carp those with different colouring have greater value among enthusiasts #beeshrimps #aquariumfish #freshwaterfish
