The New Inn Melksham

Contemporary pub with a traditional pub environment along with a wonderful garden space to enjoy.

We're very sad to announce that our wonderful Jodie is going to be leaving us moving on to another part of the industry working in admin.

Jodie has been a wonderful part of our team and has had such a positive effect on our pub and has done an incredible job in getting us to where we are today.

We wish her well in her future endeavours and Terry and I want to say a huge thank you for all her hard work; there will always be a place for Jodie at The New Inn.

We will of course be hosting a "leaving do" for Jodie, the date to be announced shortly.

From the entire team at The New Inn; goodbye and good luck, we're all going to miss you.

For the past few weeks our Mother's Day lunch has been sold out, even after extending our hours on that day we were still inundated with bookings.

We always allow plenty of time for our diners before turning around a table and it can happen that there are some gaps in bookings. We hate disappointing customers, we had many requests for reservations after we were fully booked.

What we can say is that customers are more than welcome to join us at the bar, there may be the chance of a table becoming available between bookings, but we can't offer any guarantee.

But we do have some complimentary chocolates for all customers on Mother's Day, so feel free to join us for a drink.

02/03/2024

We are now fully booked on Mother's Day; we extended our opening hours so that we could accommodate extra bookings and we now have over 100 people joining us for Sunday lunch on Mother's Day.

Apologies if anyone hasn't managed to book, we hate to disappoint.

For those joining us on Sunday 10th March, you're in for a fabulous lunch, we look forward to seeing you.

29/02/2024

With Mother's Day coming up on Sunday 10th March, we have over 65 bookings to celebrate this wonderful day with family.

Even though we've extended our opening hours on this day we are now down to our last three tables. We won't be taking any walk-ins so please book to avoid disappointment.

Call our booking number during opening hours on 01225 793916 before bookings close for Mother's Day. Please don't be disappointed. Thank you.

We’d very much like to remind customers that The New Inn has moved on massively from the landlords of old and the days when health and safety didn't exist. Kenny was a fabulous landlord and we apologise if anyone thought our comments were directed at him. Every landlord puts their own stamp on their establishment and some of the best stories we've heard have been about Kenny. Kenny had his own unique style just as Ronnie has his own direction for The New Inn.

Incidents at the pub are few and far between but in certain circumstances it's important to remind our customers of our policies and legal obligations and we make no apology about that.

We’ve worked hard to create a safe and comfortable environment where our customers and community can enjoy food and drink; it would be fair to say that the days of The New Inn being a “builder’s watering hole” are long gone.

We take our legal obligations very seriously in terms of access, emergency procedures and disabled access. We apologised for having to ask a group of male customers to move along one table to allow disabled diners access as well access to the fire escape. What we did not expect was for the group of male customers to take offence at this and to start their drunken antics of verbal abuse and being overly rude. We sincerely apologise to those customers who were affected by this.

The New Inn may not be everyone’s idea of a great pub but we’re proud of what we’ve achieved and we’re working hard to keep improving; but if it’s not the pub for you, we quite understand. There are plenty of other pubs in the area. Since taking over The New Inn we’ve made efforts to create a great venue for food and drink whilst keeping the needs of our community and customers in mind; we’re always open to criticism and suggestions but we have a zero tolerance of any kind of abuse.

Thank you.

We have a couple of spaces left for Valentine's Day dinner, book asap to avoid disappointment. No special menu, no price hikes, just a great evening of food and drink with that someone special in your life.

We’ve just had one of our busiest weekends ever; we never expected January to be quite so busy, thank you to all our wonderful customers. Just a reminder that once our new alfresco dining space is completed we’ll be working with two ovens and we’ll be launching a fabulous range of vegetarian and vegan pizzas.

Ok, so it’s only January, but we wanted to get in early and announce our Big Birthday Bash in August to celebrate TWO YEARS of The New Inn.

Saturday 31st August at 12pm is our Big Birthday Bash of 2024; after the huge success of our 2023 First Birthday Bash we thought our second birthday was something to celebrate, except it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.

We’ve got an entire day of great food and drink, live music, entertainment and even more surprises.

We’re delighted to welcome back Will Kinn as The UK’s No. 1 Robbie Williams Tribute Act, Fortunate Sons will return, Michael Hennessy is back with his great vocals, we’ve got a live DJ and a brilliant Sax player; a fabulous day of live music.

We’ve got a whole day of fabulous food; our new alfresco dining area will be open serving pizzas, snacks as well as donuts and ice cream. There’ll be something for everyone, even our four legged friends. A whole host of surprises will be lined up for adults and children alike; it’ll be the event of the year.

A limited number of tickets will be available; we’ve got 250 tickets, once they’re gone, they’re gone! Adults are £10, children are £5 and under fives are free. Tickets will be available from 1st March. Not to be missed.

Thank you to all our wonderful customers for giving us such an incredible start to 2024.

25/01/2024

With some work about to begin on our new alfresco pizza dining area, we’re going to have to close our main kitchen from 7th February and reopening on 14th February. Our pizza kitchen will still be open during this period selling our usual fabulous pizzas and extras. We’ll be announcing the Easter opening of our wonderful all weather alfresco dining space with addition of an ice cream parlour selling a great variety of ices along with delicious fresh donuts. Absolutely ideal if you want to pop down for a snack or something quick and easy; no booking required.

It’s going to be a fabulous outdoor space with some great quality fast food and no booking required. You’re even welcome to pop down, order, and take it away with you.

We also must remind everyone to book early in advance. This weekend we are almost sold out and our Valentine’s evening dinner is almost fully booked so get in now if you want to celebrate that special day. Wednesday 4pm
Thursday 4pm
Friday 2pm
Saturday 2pm

From 14th February, as springtime approaches we’ll be launching our lunchtime menu as well as other special offers, watch this space.

Due to limited space, especially when we’re busy, it can be difficult cater for our four legged friends; we would ask that during busy periods such as Friday evening and Saturday evening that you avoid bringing your dog. As much we love having your lovely pooches join us there just isn’t the space. Children of course are welcome if they are dining with us.

All bookings on 01225 793916; our lines are open during pub opening hours so if you can’t immediately get through, please be patient.

13/01/2024

Can we also advise that on Saturday 24th February we are closed to the public for the entire day. Our first big private function of the year with over 100 guests attending a wonderful leaving party. The host has kindly given Ronnie free reign in terms of food and he certainly won’t disappoint with a lovely range of dishes including a delicious selection of curries with appropriate side dishes as well as fantastic selection of traditional items.

But of course don’t forget our Pizza Kitchen is open with a great selection of pizzas and sundries; all made fresh to order.

We hope you’ve all had a wonderful start to 2024; it’s going to be busy year; Happy New Year from all of us at The New Inn.

Our apologies for any inconvenience however these are circumstances beyond our control.

Thank you.

30/12/2023

As we head into 2024 we’ve got lots of news and updates coming very soon.

Following on from the fantastic success of his Pizza Kitchen, Kameron will be opening his new ice-cream and donut parlour with a great selection to choose from; what you need after one of his tasty pizzas. We’d like to say a huge thanks to Kameron for his work this year and we’re delighted he's following in his Dad’s footsteps.

We want to remind everyone that we do a maximum of 60 covers at any one time and we’re almost always full on a Friday and Saturday evening not to mention our Sunday lunch. Booking in advance is absolutely essential [01225 793916]; particularly when we come into the Spring when our garden will open and in full bloom again. We’ve increased our maximum party/table size to ten; if you require more then please speak to staff in advance.

We’re happy to consider Celebration of Life events but it’s important to talk to Ronnie first before making any plans or arrangements; Ronnie always has the final say.

You’ll find our policy clearly displayed on our web site and Facebook; children are always welcome provided that they are dining with us and under constant supervision, dogs of course are welcome but again busy times are not ideal such as Friday/Saturday evenings or Sunday lunch times; please consider this before bringing your child or pet to The New Inn.

We’re delighted that our local Travelodge recommends us above all other pubs in the area for which we are very grateful; it obviously keeps us busy. We’re often 30% cheaper than many of our competitors when it comes to food and drink and are standards and quality and highly rated. We work very hard to achieve this.

Just a reminded we don’t charge for little extras and we want our customers to be completely satisfied; don’t hesitate to request an extra helping of potato or Yorkshire pudding or a bit more gravy. It’s gratifying to hear our customers comment that they have had a wonderful experience and good value for money.

Currently under construction is another 250 properties right on our doorstep; the demand on the pub will be immense in the coming year, thank God the new canal route isn’t coming through anytime soon else we wouldn’t be able to cope until we build another kitchen and find new chefs.

We’ll have a big announcement in February with our up and coming itinerary for 2024; Ronnie and Terry would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful and team and staff members past and present for the making The New Inn the massive phenomenon that it’s become.

Ronnie and Par will be taking time away from the business for a few weeks to recharge their batteries; dates to be announced. Please know that we appreciate all our wonderful customers but 2023 has not been without its challenges; all we would like to say is that we are not public servants, we are here to be treated with respect and that courtesy and respect will be returned to all our customers.

From Ronnie, Terry, Kameron and Gary the social media guy, we wish you all a prosperous and very happy and healthy New Year.

28/12/2023

In the short space of just over a year, The New Inn has achieved a wonderfully respected status in the community due to our fantastic regular customers and recommendations that we receive.

Our reviews on Google and Trip Advisor are testament to that and we work hard to keep that status. We’ve made our policies clear and we’ve established a reputation for what we do well. We’re not a big pub and we do have to place a limit on events and party sizes. When we make mistakes we own up to them and do our best to put things right. Unfortunately when we get threatened with a “bad review” because someone isn’t happy about something then we draw the line. Threatening behaviour and being abusive to our staff is way beyond that line.

Booking is essential, especially during our busy times but we always make the effort to accommodate.

So on Friday 22nd December we received a party of adults and children and a very large dog, who had not booked (to be fair the dog thought the adults had made the booking); they were advised for future reference of our policy in relation to children and dogs but we were happy to have them. The fact that they had brought all their own food and snacks didn’t really bother us. But unfortunately things did not go well. It has to be said that Friday 22nd December was probably our busiest day with many smaller parties of work colleagues and get-togethers for the festive season; it was not an ideal environment for young children and we do make our policies very clear on both Facebook and our website.

We had been asked by police not to post full details in relation to the incident until their investigation is complete. It’s a good reminder that we do have CCTV throughout the pub for the safety of our customers and staff.

Despite our reminders that our garden space was closed, the children were repeatedly allowed to go outside, unsupervised, into our garden and play next to the pond and attempt repeatedly to catch the fish in the pond. Several warnings were issued but unfortunately ignored. Our biggest concern was safety; to be blunt the children could have hailed a cab and made their way to visit Santa at the north pole and the supervising adults would have been none the wiser.

As the adults became more intoxicated things became much worse. The “supervising” parents clearly had no time for their own children who were then handed a football and told to go away and play. For those that know The New Inn it doesn’t make for an ideal space for any kind of sporting event and considering the pub was busy; a game of football was not ideal and staff had to make repeated requests for this to stop, all of which yet again were ignored and seemed to irritate the parents. Further activities ensued which included climbing furniture (despite other customers using said furniture); more football using our large mirror as a target not to mention the attempts to climb the mirror; other customers were becoming annoyed having young children being loud, spilling drinks and generally making a nuisance whilst their adult guardians being completely oblivious.

Things took an interesting turn when the party were joined by more adults and children who then thought it amusing to block the disabled toilets. For us, the line was crossed we did our best to be polite and courteous, but still it wasn’t received well; it’s very hard to reason with a group of adults when they’re all intoxicated and aggressive.

Myself and my staff are experienced; we’ve handled situations like this before and whilst there’s the usual shouting, abuse and threats; we did not expect what would happen next. A male member of the party decided he wasn’t going to be told what to do and decided to approach the bar. It’s the usual type of male that causes problems, the type that can’t stand up to another man of similar age or size and likes to demonstrate his macho-ness by threatening a woman or perhaps a child. From his previous misdemeanors we were able to identify Ian as the violent and abusive individual who then decided to threaten staff shouting at the top of his voice and in front of his own children; he then smashes a glass and then physically threatens my staff. As you can imagine; the line was long gone and we had to put an end to this at any cost. We were lucky to have the support of a number of customers. Their level of intoxication meant all they were able to do was shout expletives at staff and customers as they made their way out into the car park. It was noted that ALL the adults were intoxicated; despite this their children were pushed into their vehicles and they sped off.

We pride ourselves on being able to resolve issues but in this case we had more chance of getting a suntan in sunny Scotland this time of year than resolving this issue peacefully. Such is the life of a landlord.

Obviously the police were informed and there is now an ongoing investigation however there’s not much more we can actually say at this point. But of course, you can sure we’ll keep you updated on the issue. The matter will of course be brought up at the next Pub Watch meeting.

I will make it very clear that my wife Par and I run this very much as a lifestyle business; we are not public servants. We operate within our own strict guidelines and we do our best by our customers but this kind of behaviour will never be tolerated.

Just for reference; we’re won’t be starting up a five a side football team in the bar; there’s a strict no fishing policy in our pond; climbing on the furniture is frowned upon; putting your fingers into the drinks of other customers is not acceptable and if they give you ticking off we fully support them in this; our big mirror is not a magic mirror and will not talk back to you and we’d rather you didn’t try to pull it off the wall, if you want to know who the fairest maiden of them all is, just ask Ronnie.

24/12/2023

Christmas Eve is a very special time for us all; for friends and for family. Of course many of us will have been rushing around catching up on last minute shopping.

But do take a moment to consider others but also remember to be kind to yourself. You may be wrapping presents, hanging up stockings, heating up mince pies for Santa or you may follow a little know tradition in Sweden to watch Donald Duck cartoons every Christmas Eve. Take a moment to remember it's not about how much you give or receive, or how much you spend; but being thankful for what you have.

We're open on Christmas Day and Boxing Day for drinks from 12pm to 3pm; we would love to get the chance to wish you a Merry Christmas in person; perhaps arrange to meet a friend or family member or maybe just an excuse to get out of the house for short while, but we'd love to have you join us.

May you never be too old to search the skies on Christmas Eve.

A very Merry Christmas from all of us at The New Inn.

The decorations are up and we're officially in the run up to Christmas.

The pizza kitchen is open now! Our main kitchen is open from tomorrow, Sunday 26th November and we're now in our run of festivities right up until and including Christmas Eve.

Fancy something from our Pizza Kitchen tonight? We've got a great range of pizzas and snacks, no need to book or even takeaway, back open for a busy Saturday night.

Our classic Sunday lunch is available tomorrow from midday to 3.30pm, bookings available, give us a ring on 01225 793916 to avoid disappointment.

It's looking incredibly festive; remember we'll be adding a delicious Christmas pudding to our dessert menu but otherwise the menu won't change and neither will our prices. And for the Festive season feel free to bring your own Christmas crackers, festive outfits and even your own Christmas cake to enjoy after your dinner.

Don't forget if you're looking for the ideal Christmas gift for a friend, for family or a loved one; our Gift Certificates are now available and make a wonderful gift for that someone special.

It's definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

20/11/2023

Lots of our customers have been asking about gift certificates; they make a fabulous gift, especially around the Festive period. So they are in stock from Tuesday; first come first served.

You can have them in any denomination from £10 upwards and can be redeemed for drinks/lunch/dinner at The New Inn.

So if you're struggling to find that special gift for someone this Christmas; you can't go wrong with a Gift Certificate for The New Inn.

18/11/2023

Not even 18 months open and we’ve been so incredibly fortunate to have found our feet in the community; we’ve been busy since day one and we continue to thrive. But of course the only reason for this is you, our customers and community.

There are many awards out there for pubs and to be honest we’ve never sought for adulation or awards; we’d like to think our customers speak for us. Our Google and Trip Advisor reviews are outstanding; we thank everyone who has taken the time to write about us. 2024 will be the year we’re looking to be the People’s Pub Of The Year 2024 with the People’s Pub Award [peoplespubaward.co.uk] and the great news is that we’ve already been nominated; we’d love you to help us win the award; watch this space for details.

We work incredibly hard to keep our prices down and our “no money Christmas” has been highly praised for keeping prices low and not charging a penny extra for the festive season. We’re the only pub where you can make your own Christmas happen; put on your best festive outfit, bring your own crackers and poppers and even bring your own Christmas cake to enjoy after your dinner with a tea or coffee; we’re offering a fabulous Christmas experience for not a penny extra.

We’ve had some great live entertainment and our events have sold out; for us that is our pinnacle of success; that our community and customers want to spend their free time and hard earned cash visiting our pub. Our Big Birthday Bash was one of the best parties in Wiltshire; then our fabulous Halloween Party was enjoyed by our wonderful customers not to mention their children and their furry friends. We’re entirely dog friendly and we even have a special staff member Louie to keep us on the right track with our canine friends. Louie even made the front page of the local rag despite the fact they got the “wrong end of the stick”; to be fair Louie doesn’t mind which end of the stick he gets.

Our new Pizza Kitchen has been a massive success and is busier than ever producing fabulous pizzas and snacks at great prices and you don’t even need to book. We’re adding vegan cheese so that our vegetarian and vegan friends can enjoy a pizza with us. We’ve been inundated with requests for home delivery; watch this space! Remember if you’re popping in for a pizza or smack no booking is required and we’re happy if you want to grab a pizza to take away.

With the help of our customers we’ve raised a massive amount of money for the Royal British Legion; we give them our full support and thank them wholeheartedly for everything they do.

We like to consider ourselves the Aldi and Lidl of the pub industry; no frills, no gimmicks, just low prices giving customers exactly what they want. We had an astoundingly busy Festive Season last year and achieved a 100% booking rate. We felt this year with the cost of living crisis we would keep prices low and keep customers happy; our prices are exactly the same.

We’ve done our research; local pubs that are charging high prices for food are already bringing in price increases during the Festive period. We won’t do it; for us there’s a balance between customer service and profit; for The New Inn it’s just not all about profit.

As we come into the Festive season this year we’re already on the way to a 100% booking rate; please don’t miss out as we hate having to turn people away; call us on 01225 793916.

Following the huge success of our events; Quiz Night will be back in 2024, bigger and better than ever! Many more events coming in 2024 and reminder that if you want to host an event at The New Inn, let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Lots of exciting new things ahead in 2024. We’ll do everything possible to put our customers first. From all of us here at The New Inn; thank you for your custom and thank you for your friendship.
