We had a customer contact us with a knocking noise that he was told by another mechanic that it sounded like diesel knock, we inspected the vehicle and advised that the noise was in fact the dual mass flywheel as the noise went when the clutch was pressed. We replaced the flywheel and clutch kit with an LUK unit and immediately after the noise was gone!
Only downfall was being caught in the rain but we didn’t let that stop us!
Audi A6 DSG with a bad rattling noise and shudder when pulling away or stationary in gear. After inspection we advised we believed it to be the dual mass flywheel that was causing the problem. We removed the gearbox and inspected the flywheel and found excessive play and noise so replaced it with a new LUK flywheel. The customer was very happy with the result and the price!
We had a customer contact us and asked us to change what they thought was the slave cylinder on their Citroen c2, we found the clutch release fork was very loose and not doing anything and advised them that we believed the clutch release bearing had failed upon removal of the gearbox we actually found the clutch pressure plate diaphragm springs had broken and the release bearing had shattered. We replaced the clutch and the release fork as it had also com into contact with the pressure plate. Back up and running and a happy customer!
Toyota Yaris clutch replacement, this customer contacted us he had the parts ready but was struggling to find someone to do the work.
We had a customer contact us with their Peugeot RCZ, they had previously had the clutch and flywheel replaced and whoever completed the work didn’t change the concentric slave cylinder and just 4 months later it failed. When they contacted the previous mechanic they said the slave wasn’t included in the price. We went and changed the slave cylinder and blew the clutch stystem. So much clutch fluid leaked out when we removed the gearbox it had obviously been leaking for a while. Back on the road now and another happy customer.
We had a customer contact us and request us to carry out a full service on their Vauxhall Zafira, they hadn’t long purchased the car and although they were told it was serviced 2k miles ago the oil filter shows for itself it certainly hadn’t been changed in a long time. They contacted us a week later to say that they had noticed an increase in the cars mpg and that it felt far more responsive.
We had a customer ask us to look at their Range Rover that was lacking power and was smoking heavily under acceleration, they wanted a second opinion as another company had told them it was their injectors and advised them to replace all 8 😳. We run a diagnostics test and had fault codes for under boost, I manually inspected the boost hoses and found a massive split on one of the boost hoses. We replaced the hose and cleared the fault codes. On test drive we noticed a small amount of smoke initially but it had cleared before returning to the customers house they also commented that it was exceptionally quicker than they remembered it ever being.
We had a customer contact us and ask us to investigate a knocking noise from the front of their vehicle, we diagnosed it as a failed bottom ball joint and also noticed a fair amount of wear on the rear bush. We replaced the suspension arm the same day and went with the customer for a test drive and they said the characteristics of the vehicle were a lot better as the car seemed floaty prior to the repairs but now felt tight again.
We had a customer contact us and ask us to give them a quote to replace the rear shock absorbers and front anti roll bar links as their car had failed the mot and the garage wanted a substantial amount to carry out the work. Although they had initially asked for 1 shock when we quoted they was so surprised by the price they decided to do both.
We had a customer contact us and ask us to check their brakes as they had become noisy and juddered under heavy braking. We supplied and fitted new discs and pads for the customer while they was at work so they could go about their day with minimal disruption.

We had a customer contact us after being recovered home with engine management light and engine malfunction warning on, we carried out a diagnostic test and found the fuel injector for cylinder 3 has failed. They asked us to replace the faulty injector and also carry out a full service as it was due. The customer is happy their vehicle is now running smoothly and fault free.
We had a customer contact us and ask us to change their clutch kit, the clutch was not slipping but was worn and the bite point was right at the top of the pedal. We fit a new clutch kit and release bearing and there was an immediate noticeable difference.
We had a customer contact us and ask to carry out a full service on their VW Golf and also look at the rear brakes as they were squeaking. We carried out the service and inspected the rear brakes, they had been recently replaced but found the carrier was very dirty not allowing the pads the release fully, we cleaned the mating surfaces and applied some copper grease and the customer said the noise had gone immediately.
We had a customer contact us with loss of clutch pedal, when we inspected the car we found the slave cylinder was leaking and we believe this was caused by the flywheel being excessively worn. We replaced the flywheel and clutch kit along with new slave cylinder. This customer was also told this job couldn’t be done on the floor and would need to be taken to a garage and done on a ramp.
A regular customer of ours contacted us and asked us to carry out a full service on their mini as it had been sat for a while, the cabin filter on this one in particular was very heavy and looks like it had been in the car for some time.
We had a customer contact us and ask us to change their timing belt kit and water pump on both his and his sons cars and also the timing chain on his sons. Both vehicles had the 2.0 tfsi engines. Unfortunately due to lack of light and cold weather we only took pictures of the timing belt on Seat Leon. This particular car had only covered approximately 15k miles since the last timing belt replacement but was due by age recommended replacement interval. We also assisted the customer with a couple other bits they were doing themselves while we were there. Timing belts can cause serious engine damage if they fail, it’s always worth checking when yours was last changed and get it replaced if it’s close to the manufacturer’s recommended intervals.

This is a short video of a job we took on, the customer contacted us and asked us if we’d have a look at her 1995 Renault Master van that had been converted into a horse box. Initially the van had a starting issue where they would have to manually prime the fuel system to get it started until one day they tried to start it and it would only turn over. She had contacted several other mobile mechanics but no one was willing to investigate or work on ‘something so old’ we found the timing belt had failed and with the customers agreement we removed the cylinder head to inspect the damage, the head was then taken to a local machine shop and they quoted for the repair including new gaskets etc, we then gave the customer a fixed quote so there was no surprises. We collected the cylinder head, gasket set new timing belt etc and reassembled it. we also found the fuel problem being a perished hose that we also replaced. The customer was happy with the work we carried out and continued communication whilst the cylinder head was away but also gutted and frustrated as she was told by the person who sold it to her that the belt had recently been replaced.
We are not like many others in this trade we always simply try to accommodate for whatever vehicle you have new old and everything in between!
We had a customer contact us with a strong smell of diesel in their Mercedes and smoke coming from the engine bay. We inspected the vehicle and found someone had used non fuel rated pipe that had perished and was leaking. We replaced the hose with the correct hose so no longer leaks and is able to withstand fuel.
We had a customer contact us with a whining noise from their Mercedes clk320cdi we went and inspected the car to diagnose the fault and pinpointed it down to the in tank lift pump/fuel pump beginning to break down. We ordered a brand new Bosch unit and replaced it. The noise was gone immediately and the customer was happy. Further work has also been booked in on this vehicle.
Vauxhall Astra that was booked in for brake pad change, we met the customer at their work location making it as convenient as possible so they could continue their day with minimal disruption.
Mercedes c220cdi non start issue. We went to check the car out and found the starter motor to be the culprit.
We were asked to take a look at non-start issue on a 1995 Renault master. Upon inspection we found the timing belt had broken, we removed the rocker cover to check for damage and found a whole load of horrors. The cylinder head was removed and taken to a local machine shop for repair. Keep an eye out for a second post later next week when we reassemble the engine and get this old girl running and back on the road
We had one of customers contact us to replace their track rod end as it was advised on their MOT. We replaced the part the following day and advised them to get the tracking set on the vehicle.
