Each year in Italy, grazing animals are moved from high pastures down to the plains. Newborn lambs are unable to make this journey on their own. Instead, they ride in the pouches of a specially made saddle on the back of a donkey or a mule nanny. They are taken down at rest stops and returned to their mothers for a bite to eat and a bit of nuzzling.

Hot day = shady spots, treats, boopy noses

While all dog breeds need to be careful, flat-faced breeds struggle to regulate their temperature even more. 🌡️

If you're heading to the beach this week, here are our top tips for keeping your pets safe 🌊

- Provide shade from the sun
- Choose toys that pick up less sand
- Take fresh water to avoid drinking from the sea
- Look out for coastal wildlife
- Check the tide times
- Look out for sharp objects and rubbish
- Keep dogs close when letting them play around the sea

Would it surprise you if we told you over five million dogs in the UK aren’t getting enough sleep? 😮

It may sound like a lot, but most adult dogs should actually get at least 14-16 hours of shut-eye every single day! 💤

Here are our top tips for ensuring your pet gets the sleep they need:

- Provide a safe, comfortable space away from the hustle and bustle of the house.
- Allow your dog to get a good amount of alone time.
- Ensure your dog gets enough exercise so they are mentally and physically tired – any pent-up energy will make it harder for them to nod off properly.
- A plug-in diffuser or collar can release natural calming pheromones.
- Allow for several snooze spots. Your dog may feel comfortable sleeping in a different room, so make sure there are plenty of places they can access which are comfy and quiet enough for them to rest.

Noodles, all 11hh of him😍 is currently based in Cornwall but sadly hasn't had any luck in finding a new home on our Home Direct scheme. He has been searching for a home since March :(

He is due to arrive at our Burford centre this weekend and hope that he will get some new interest!

Remember to stick to early morning or late evening dog walks when it's hot. Sometimes it's safer to miss the walk altogether 🥵

Taking your dog on a walk or to places with little or no shade can be fatal during summer. It's important for dog owners to remember… If in doubt, DON’T go out!

Heat-related illnesses in dogs are severe and can lead to organ failure, brain damage and even death 💔

Unwanted litters lead to lots of kittens in need of re-homing at Northamptonshire's Animals In Need An animal charity is urging people to consider them if they’re looking to get a new kitten.

After losing his parents, Suryia, a 3-year-old orangutan, became so depressed that he stopped eating and didn't respond to medical treatment. Vets feared he might die from sadness.

One day, the zookeepers found an old, sick dog named Roscoe on the zoo grounds and brought him to the animal treatment center. Roscoe arrived at the same time Suryia was there for treatment.

The two lost souls met and have been inseparable ever since. Suryia found a new reason to live, and they have become the best of companions.

They spend all their time together in Northern California, with swimming being their favorite activity. Despite Suryia's fear of water, with Roscoe's help, they've discovered the joy and laughter in life and the value of friendship.
