At some point in the near future we will be getting our assistant instructor Mark (black belt in jiu-jitsu) to give us a masterclass on ground work.
Ideally we don't want to be on the floor in a fight, but if we did, we will be well prepared ππ₯

Some light kumite work that's gone on this week π₯ We split the students into 2 groups and each side had a combination they had to try and use to gain the upper hand on their opponent. Great fun this, and with fantastic results. Can anyone guess what one of the combinations was π
The Tigers last where honing in on there punches last night. We worked on some reaction and accuracy work with the small pads, and also hitting through a moving target plus some fan favourite board breaking π₯
A nice exercise last night after grading padwork working on Ushiro Geri. Both hands on the wall making sure that we are not over rotating our hips and knees which can lead to unbalance and kicks being off line π
The Tigers and Dragons got some circuit training in last night, the small circuit had a little bit of everything in. Nice work guys πͺπ₯
It's good for the younger students to engage with the adults so they can experience different heights, size & strength πͺ
A nice simple but great little exercise to introduce them to close up work eventually leading to grappling. Well done Tigers π π₯
Some stunning padwork on show tonight from our brown belt pad work. All students tonight had the same combinations, they aren't easy but everyone nailed it. Awesome work guys ππ
In the Dragons tonight we introduced some new footwork drills combined with this new little combination. They took took it all so well π₯
A couple of videos from Thursdays last session of the year, thoroughly enjoyed it all! π We also want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, have a brilliant festive period and thank you to all the students for training so hard this year π Parents, thank you to you to for ferrying them down to us and thank you to all parents who have helped this year with various events, we very much appreciate you all π See you all next year π₯
A heavy impact session last night for the after session. I think we have all come away with sore ribs, chest and legs after it π£ We love it though π
Always a fun warmup to start the session, then onto grading prep (all looking good for Sunday) and finished with some Basai Dai bunkai as demonstrated in the video π
Well that's 2 solid weeks of grappling complete πͺ We put an awful lot of emphasis on this as it's fully expected that at some point in a fight a grapple will take place. We have covered, gaining the upper hand, strikes in the grapple, defending strikes in a grapple, limb control & escapes π
Yep, if you haven't guessed we did grappling drills tonight, every group did and I was super impressed π₯ Grappling has big parts to play in the later gradings, so we must make sure that we hone the skills as early and as much as possible. Grappling is very likely to happen in a fight, so we want every student to know how to gain the upper hand, how and when to strike, disengage at will and also takedown if necessary. Tonight we worked on 3 drills that where about escaping and gaining the advantageous position. Well done everyone, brilliant training πͺ
