So here are the after pictures following a good clean and wax and I think she has come up beautifully. The former owner kindly used his business cards to create the draw labels and it turns out to be Mr James Thomas, former first Lord of the Admiralty (a position held twice by Sir Winston Churchill) and member of the Marlborough club!

Picked up this rather interesting but sad piece of furniture today in Hawick on my way home from Kempton. Long since forgotten and left in a barn, covered in bird poo but I could see past that and I wasn’t wrong! It’s now been cleaned and is currently having a wax bath to revive the oak. While cleaning, it also revealed some very interesting provenance, which I will share with you tomorrow, along with the ‘after’ pictures 👍

A proper Yorkshire start to the day before heading to the lovely town of Hawick for a collection then homeward bound before collecting tons of new stock tomorrow!

Burning old furniture breaks my heart but sometimes pieces are just too far gone 😢 I do strip them of anything I could possibly use in the future and it does keep me warm while I enjoy a wine al fresco for one of the last times this year 🍷

Well as promised tonight is all about my two latest portraits, a real case of little and large!!
Firstly the young chap, signed and dated 1889, quite the dandy for his years; 51cm x 66cm unframed.
We then have the seriously big chap, who wouldn’t look out of place in a Dracula movie! Some further investigation required on the signature on the reverse but dated 1839. He measures in at a whopping 132cm x 158cm framed!
