The curse of Halloween was certainly present last night, causing me no end of problems infront of the 13 teams (lucky for some? not for me), and 60 players who graced us with their presence.
Also, it was great to see so many of you all embracingthe Halloween spirit and coming in fancy dress. Hope you all had a great time, despite the technical issues...
Firstly the projector wouldn't work in the lounge. Big thanks to Ray for attempting to fix it through trial and error, before bringing out the back-up TV. We'll have a solution for this before the next quiz.
Open-The-Box was won for the second quiz in a row, although not where I was expecting it. Note to self: Test and re-test the deck. The magic number was #17 (albeit I was expecting #14), and this was won on the third attempt by Mart on the 'Brick Club Bandits', who shared the £200 win with his team. Prior to the cash payout, our other winners won some crisps. Woohoo!
A change to usual proceedings saw prizes after each round, which were won by the 'Football Brians', 'Brick Club Bandits x2' and 'Doubles 4 Dough'.
Finally, onto The Gambler round... Don't think this will happen again 🤣
Teams were given the option to pick their own gamble (between 1-5) - of which each correct answer would result in them getting that number of points. However, an incorrect/no answer would get them 2x defecit points. Confused? So was everyone.
Ultimately though, 'Why Do We Bother?' found out why they do indeed bother - gambling 5 points, and getting 8 questions right to jump into the lead and take home the cash prize of £50. Congratulations!
We've now got a three week break while I'm away with work, returning back to (hopefully) normal non-problematic quizzing fun, on Thursday 21st November.

So we advertised a Newcastle game the other week & realised that we couldn't show it as we didn't have Sky Sports+, well we looked into it & as of today we now have Sky Sports+ available for all games. The next Newcastle Match exclusivley on Sky Sports+ is on 30th October vs Chelsea. We also now have access to the Racing TV, as well as many other sports on Sky Sports+. If you want to watch something - just ask at the bar and we'll do our best.

Another fab quiz last night, where we ended the quiz with two teams tied on 44 points. The tie breaker was won by the 'Hadda Mad Dogs', taking away £51, with the 'Football Brians' taking the consolation £20 second place kitty.
The music round was a belter (IMO) with lyrics to some well known tracks completely skewed by artificial intelligence. Our AI overlords finally have a use (of course i'm just kidding, I don't want to be on the hitlist when the robot uprising happens...)
No-one was successful in 'Play-Your-Cards-Right', but the Open-The-Box was won on the 2nd attempt, as Jack #2 successfully picked box 15 and took home £400 along with his takeaway. Well done Jack (who reliably informed me he'll be back in this weekend to spend it 😂
Our next quiz is on Halloween, where to go along with the spooky theme, every player in fancy dress will get a FREE open the box ticket, in an attempt to win the new prize pot of £200

Another fine quiz last night, which saw the 'Football Brians' have a storming last couple of rounds to poach victory from 'Five Sheets To The Wind'. We had 15 teams and 62 players, so they took away £62 and £20 respectively. Well done!
A bonus for the 'Football Brians' was the chance to air their victory song - missing member Dan chuckling away to himself as his AI generated jingle brought a good laugh to all.
Newcomers 'Hit n Miss' successfully won some shots for their team on 'Play-Your-Cards-Right', while 'Open-The-Box' went unpicked yet again, so we roll £400 into the next quiz on a fortnight. Weirdly all 3 boxes picked were choc bars - other prizes were obviously available, as was seen when all boxes were revealed.
Finally, a little heads-up for our quiz on 31st October - as it's Hallowe'en, any team member dressed up will receive one free 'open-the-box' ticket. Plenty of time to work out your costumes...
