Chevaugeon

The funeral of Christophe Chevaugeon/ Chevaugeon / CameraWork45 will take place at Felton Village Hall on Tuesday 22nd March at 11.30am. His family would like to invite friends, neighbours and colleagues to join them in celebrating Christophe's life and hope they will stay to share memories and stories. Anyone who is unable to attend the ceremony is welcome to call at the village hall until 5.30pm. Refreshments will be provided.

We are heartbroken to tell you our beloved Christophe Chevaugeon / Chevaugeon / CameraWork45 passed away suddenly on the 4th of March. Funeral will take place in Felton on the 22nd March details to follow.

Toulon, Summer 2021
Backed-up against small mountainous hills, military naval harbor city, crisscrossed with large avenues designed to facilitate easy access of troops and heavy hardware, Toulon's historic center is niched, almost lost, in a patchwork of modern, and often soulless constructs, and yet, in that baren urban sprawl, light and people 'play' there in catching ways, as if on some stage set.
I learned recently that painters speak of 'local colour' to describe the colours of a scene as it appeared to them in contrast to the actual colour palette that they used to render it. So yes, I introduced a fair shift from local colour in this photograph.
Content with seizing the silhouettes of passersby making their way through this passageway just a few steps from the harbor, I wasn't expecting the young woman to gaze at me, but she did and I captured the frame.

Many photographers internalise the works of great photographers we admire. I'm no different and cannot help but see a touch in this 'straight' ( unmanipulated) photo, of the wonderful Paul Strand, 20th Century American photographer. There's too much to say and discover about him for this modest post, so consider looking him up.

Grey's Monument, Newcastle UK. In the heart of what my American friends would call 'downtown' Newcastle, Grey's monument is a place to hook up and hang around. No masks because before Covid and don't let the t-shirts fool you, it probably wasn't that warm ! Northerners are notoriously immune to cold !

Paris, summer of 2021. There are plenty of straight decorative photos of Paris around. I was after something else.

A modest homage to the great American photographer Lee Frielander who was the first to play, time and time again, with reflections in mostly urban windows. He worked mainly in black and white. He influenced many of us, knowingly or not. This composition is tidier than his...something to ponder about. Anyway, look Lee Frielander up, well worth it.

Paris July 2021. Les Jardins du Palais Royal is a favourite haunt of mine and I was lucky enough to stroll there yet again this summer It's impossible to stay away from this small water feature. The photograph has a deliberate (very) formal composition, with the spheres and columns playing off each other, revealing the Columns of Buren and passers-by in the background. The stillness of the humans and geometry of the organisation are offset by the presence of the pigeon and the slight blur of its wings that the camera failed to completely freeze. And I am present in the reflection of the spheres. It prints beautifully.
