Tranwell Coloured Ryelands
We live on a farm in Rural Northumberland shared with our flock of rare breed Ryeland sheep, horses, ponies and a Terrier
Ryeland Sheep are one of the traditional British sheep breeds. They're well known for producing excellent quality lamb and great tasting meat. Ryeland lamb is much sought after by rare-breed butchers, top chefs, hotels and restaurants. Hand spinners and weavers also seek out Ryeland sheep's wool for it texture and quality. Unlike some breeds of sheep Ryelands are docile and easy to look after, whi
The team went to Penrith Show today, all coming back with rosettes.
However, Tranwell Ethena was the star of the show collecting Coloured Ryeland Champion. Well done also to with their lovely ram lamb getting reserve.
Thank you Annabel Burton for judging both the Coloured Ryelands and the Ryelands.
My little sheepy best friend finally got her first red rosette at the Yorkshire show😀
Tranwell Cool Dude 1st in the aged ram and reserve male champion💪🏻
Congratulations to Katie and Mark of Coxwold Coloured Ryelands for the show champion shearling and also to Annabelle Burton and Tom Wright getting reserve champion with her shearling ram. Now back to work cleaning toilets on Tranwell Farm Campsite
More photos to follow at the end of the week!
We are off to the Great Yorkshire tomorrow and have been allocated the brown caravan park now that Chloe is technically an adult so we no longer qualify for the family zone. Any tips on where it’s best to try and pitch? We will have our caravan so would prefer somewhere semi level 😅
Leaving Skelton show on a high today! With two 1st a 2nd and a 4th for the team. Then sealing the deal with Tranwell Dora getting the championship.
Well done to Joanna Fisher & Malcom Hogarth for getting reserve with their ramb lamb. And thank you to Becca Helen for judging such big classes.
A snapshot of life on our farm
We had a bright and blustery very GREEN day at Cumberland show yesterday 😁. Every single one of our sheep came third! It was a great day out catching up with friends.
We had a bit of a muddy day at the Northumberland County Show on Saturday, our first show of the year. We had to be towed in by a tractor as well as out! They don't have a Ryeland/Coloured ryeland class so we were in the Native breed section. Tranwell Cool Dude won his class, Tranwell Dora came second in the shearling ewe class to a rather nice Clun Forest and Tranwell Ernest came second in his class to another lovely Clun Forest too. Well done to Heather Clough on winning the Championship with her huge Hampshire Down ewe lamb.

Pretty much fed up with this weather now. Second lambing just starting. ☹️
Happy Easter from our flock to yours!
Next lot of sheep in for lambing👍
Doing our best to support the welsh farmers while staying in ruthin. Lamb cutlets and a chicken dish for Sarah.
Heading down to wernog wood near ruthin tomorrow in north wales. Just wondering if there’s any coloured ryelands breeders down that way? Would be nice to pop in to meet up.
We went and bought a pig arc for the goats on the weekend. But at the moment the lambs get to use it.
Safe to say they haven’t figured that out yet 😂

Had the bright idea to have ago at a cleft timber gate for our cabins. Should maybe leave it to the pros😀 6 hrs later…
The lambs are coming on nicely. 😌
Why don’t we all get in the hay feeder and see if we can climb over the wall? 😂
Wish I had her energy,
