Restoring, refurbishing, restyling and refinishing beautiful writing bureaus.
A lovely review for my first sale on Etsy. ☺️
While the paint stripper is doing its thing I've been adding these vintage style notebooks to our web site, link in bio.
📝 There are three different designs - a hot air balloon, typewriter and umbrella on a dictionary art cover. Inside the pages are alternately lined and blank.
Totally in keeping with our lovely refinished bureaus! Check out the website at www.rewritinghistory.co.uk for more information.
Dress your desk beautifully!
🐾🌻 I've moved the bureau legs into the house for paint stripping and priming today. Dog seemed to want some company...or maybe just food.
Not the most exciting post but I’ve started compiling a list of the different products used on each bureau and where to get them from if you’re loving the process, design, colour or artwork.
They are all UK links but Googling will find you international suppliers for many.
You’ll find it on our website and I’ve linked to it in the profile links.

Enjoy!
Gift wrapping for a Dress Your Desktop order.
Everything is all setup on the website, just finalising postage details and we will be live shortly. There are some lovely items and gifts on there for bureaux, desks and home offices. 🎁
One hour later...I'm a huge fan of - environmentally friendly and non toxic makes it a great paint stripper to work with.
Today's paint stripping project...these are the cubbies from Lee, she was given to me for free, she's honestly in a bit of a wrecked state. She might live on as a display bureau, I've got a beautiful colour scheme planned plus some new legs for her as the old ones are rotten and wobbly.
🌻 All the drawers lined, the inside back of the bureau lined, drawer handles in place, cubby holes in place. Next step is getting the desk drop reattached, it's a two person job and finished off.
It's looking beautiful all waxed.
Going to work on Eloise, my sunflower bureau, but once the sun is off the pallet table later I'm stripping it down and painting it up in Frenchic's "Yes please!".
Looking forward to getting the bomb site of a garden looking a bit better and brighter. 🌸🌼😎
Super excited to get all the lovely items for our Dress Your Desk section on to the shop, swipe to see the first of our gorgeous products.
Thank you to for letting me use their product photography area.
I'll be behind my computer screen for the foreseeable!
A spot of work figuring out drawer liners. 🌻
It's not the best lighting this time of day but a bit of progress has been made. 🌻
Having started a new job recently I've not had quite the same time or brainpower to dedicate to my beautiful writing bureaus but hoping to get some more done on Eloise this weekend - the end is in sight!
😍 The part of our online shop is going to have some gorgeous products in...I'm hoping to have it all ready for mid June.
🌻 Finally escaped from the sunshine and retreated to my workroom to work on the drawers for writing bureau Eloise.
I think doing the dovetail joints is my least favourite thing but so worth it!
The new fountain pens for the Dress Your Desk part of our online shop are beautiful, they're going to be hard to part with! 💌
I'm just sourcing products and packaging at the moment, I hope to launch these in mid June on our website.
I've had a message this weekend asking for more information about Keira and thought I'd share it here too - please let me know if there's anything you want to know or extra photos.
The drawers are lined and waxed inside and out with the dovetail joints picked out in the same Cornish Milk Mineral Paint Sea Glass.
There is a key tassel from Reenie Makes which coordinates. The key unlocks the front of the desk and the three big drawers below but does take a bit of wiggling! The locks have all been serviced and oiled.
The back is painted as are the sides with the artwork wrapping round.
Hope that helps!
These are so perfect!
I’m very guilty of posting on Instagram and neglecting Facebook at the moment so here’s a little look at writing bureau Eloise who I’m currently working on. She’s named for the Bridgerton 5th sibling, my favourite with her quick brain and smart remarks. I hope you love my sunflowers. 🌻🌻🌻
Juliet, the first bureau I bought back in January and now available with such a beautiful country cottage feel.
She had been stored in a damp garage and wasn't in great shape and personally I'm delighted with how the repairs and design came together. So much work went in to stripping her back, sanding, repairing the damaged trim, the desk mechanism and the locks.
I decided to go for a beautiful cream paint, Creme de la Creme from Frenchic Paint, and then added country floral artwork to the outside, holding back a couple of butterflies for the inside.
The inside of the writing bureau was similarly painted in the same Creme de la Creme with the trim of the cubby holes picked out in gold and the drawer in Dusky Rose.
She's lovely, one of my favourites so far!
So here she is, I've teased her a lot the past few weeks as I have been working on this writing bureau.
Keira is a beauty painted in Cornish Milk Mineral Paint's sea glass on the outside and Fusion Mineral Paint's Divine Lavender on the inside. She's finished off with a stunning mural from Redesign with Prima on the outside and sprigs of lavender on the inside.
Perfect for your conservatory, hall way or home office, she brings a delightful splash of colour. Have a look on the website, link in profile, or drop me a message with any questions.
