We appreciate that the impact of our work goes well beyond the site boundary, and we are committed to making a positive difference to each community in which we work.

We're currently working on a scheme in Hemel Hempstead with Dacorum Borough Council to provide 46 flats and houses in the heart of a busy community.

Our team and subcontractors on site have recently been raising money for DENS - Helping Rebuild Lives, an incredibly important charity in Dacorum that supports people who are facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion.

This week, we were able to take £700 worth of donations to the DENS , which will help provide vital supplies to people in need this festive season.

Thank you to Wade and the team at DENS for welcoming our team!

Thought we’d share a photo from the Cotswold Friends Christmas event on Friday, where 80 guests got together for a lovely meal and bingo.

Riona, our Resident & Community Liaison Manager and Denis, our Construction Contracts Manager, volunteered at the event, which was part funded by Helix.

It’s important to us to support local people and the communities where we’re building homes, this time 15 low carbon affordable homes in Moreton-in-Marsh with Cottsway and Cotswold District Council, so we’re happy to have been able to help this fantastic group and their event.

We made it!

A team of intrepid trekkers from Helix and Home-Start made it to the top of Pen Y Fan over the weekend 🎉

Brilliant news! We’ve won a place on the Watford Community Framework, coordinated by Watford Community Housing. This makes us a preferred contractor for new developments across the South East.

The icing on the cake is that the framework – managed by Pretium Frameworks – can be accessed by organisations across Herts, Beds and Bucks. It provides a one-stop procurement framework for preferred contractors and consultants to work on new developments - primarily new homes!

We recently welcomed suppliers and partners to a business breakfast event at Newbury Racecourse, where we updated our valued colleagues and industry contacts with the latest Helix news.

It was fantastic to see so many representatives from across our network come out to meet with us, build stronger relationships and make new contacts.

A lot of the strength of our brand comes from the people we work with, and we look forward to continuing to forge these critical relationships with our contacts - both new and old - for a long time to come.

Last month we shared the details of our very own Oliver Pearce undertaking the TCS London Marathon for Mind, to help raise vital funds to support those struggling with mental health problems.

Well, Ollie smashed the Marathon, and smashed his fundraising target too!

Many of us will experience mental health problems in our lifetime.
In fact, NHS Digital estimates that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem.

We also know that across the industry, many individuals are struggling.
' 2022 survey states that a third of construction workers have struggled with stress and mental health in the last two years, but avoided taking time off.

Here at Helix, we consider the mental health and general welfare of our team to be hugely important.

Each employee is an individual and we aim to treat everyone with respect and dignity, while understanding their own personal needs.

Several of our staff are trained Mental Health First Aiders, and are able to assist and guide those in need of additional support to external services.

Yesterday we welcomed representatives from London Borough of Hounslow and Sapphire Independent Housing to our site at Ashford Road.

The site is set to transform existing underutilised garage blocks to provide 10 new homes for local residents.

The new buildings will prioritise sustainability to reduce carbon emissions and energy use.

This site forms part of Sapphire Independent Housing 's £35million investment into new affordable housing around London.

Last week, Nic Davies, Group Chief Executive Officer, attended the opening of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Grenfell Early Years Nursery following a 16 month project to the site.

The Council invested over £2m, appointing Helix Group to and extend the building to accommodate the nursery. This work has included improved indoor and outdoor spaces and a roof terrace.

With Jon’s arrival comes a small change to our structure. Our very own Oliver Pearce is hard at it training for the London Marathon.

Oliver’s our Assistant Quantity Surveyor, and is raising money for Mind, a charity close to his heart after losing a close family friend to mental illness.

He’s only a few weeks away now so let’s give him some support to get that final training done by donating and getting him up and over his £2000 target!

Take a read of our latest update, sharing the news of our contract win to build 46 affordable homes in Hemel Hempstead in collaboration with Dacorum Borough Council.

We always try to locally when we can, but I think we might get a prize for our latest hire.

Richi Mattaraj has been employed as a labourer on our Aylesbury Street site, where we’re developing nine new homes for Innisfree Housing Association.

And guess where he lives? Directly opposite the site!

Richi has recently moved to the area with his family, and the new role will certainly make the commute home a swift - and sustainable - one.

Having worked in the construction industry for 17 years, Richi is enjoying his new role: “I really enjoy working for Helix. It’s a well-structured company who have a great team of people working for them. It’s nice to be a part of that and contribute within my own role.”

His site manager, Danny Quinn MCIOB, added: “Helix acts as a and is proud to be able to support the people within the neighbouring community, like Richi, by way of local employment and the engagement that offers us with the surrounding community. This also helps us to significantly reduce our by reducing travel for our team.

"We hope working for Helix supports Richi further in his construction career and thank him for all his hard work.”

This week is - a week to celebrate and promote the role of women in the construction industry.

Only an estimated 14% of construction industry professionals are women, but things are improving.

Our team were on site at St Margarets Way in Hemel Hempstead recently to meet local residents and talk about our upcoming project.

We're working with Dacorum Borough Council to build 46 new apartments and houses, which will provide much needed affordable housing to the local area.

We know it's hugely valuable to build relationships with residents, contractors and the wider community when working on projects like this and it was great to see so many people come out to meet us and have some meaningful conversations about the initial plans.

Working with our local community is hugely important to everything we do here at Helix.

We also make sure we play our part in the next generation of professionals, just like Labeb (pictured) who is a recent design graduate.

That's why, in a few weeks time we'll be visiting Newbury College Berkshire to speak to the business and construction students.

Sarah Mackfall, Career Coach at Newbury College said: "I am excited to be getting such an established local organisation in to support us with our TLevel students here at Newbury College.

"We are in our first year of this new qualification, which puts an emphasis on engagement with the real world of industry at its forefront.

"Having local employers engaging with our students makes it that bit more 'real' for them."

It's so we wanted to say a big hello and welcome to our latest apprentice, Ellie.

Ellie has joined us as a apprentice and will be completing an 18 month placement with us, alongside her A Level studies.

Nic Davies said: "We have offered apprenticeships since Helix was formed. These schemes not only give young people access to careers in the construction industry, but also provide transferable skills and a chance to gain confidence in the world of work."

We’re delighted to announce that Helix have been appointed by Dacorum Borough Council to design and build 46 new affordable homes at St Margaret’s Way, Hemel Hempstead, in partnership with Philip Pank Partnership LLP .

Our team have started work on detailed design with our partners Hunters Architects, with works scheduled to commence on site in early 2023

We’re delighted to announce that Helix have been appointed by Sapphire Independent Housing to design and build 14 new affordable homes in Feltham, West London, working in partnership with Potter R***r.

We’re excited to be working closely with Beyond Carbon Associates creating energy efficient homes that meet Passivhaus design standards.

Our design team have started work on detailed design with works scheduled to commence on site in early 2023

Great to get the whole Helix team together at the lovely Hurley House Hotel for our Autumn staff meeting recently.

We spent the day looking at current and upcoming projects, sharing updates on health & safety, finance and all things Helix!

All in all, a good day and a great chance to discuss Helix’s projects and plans.
