Beamish Football Centre in Stanley, County Durham, is operating in old facilities and is full to capacity. The not-for-profit company behind the Centre has raised significant funds to transform the site, bringing even more benefits to the coalfield community.

Crowne Plaza Leeds- Another Amazing Space

Dewsbury-based H Peel & Sons Ltd have recently created a number of amazing spaces at Crowne Plaza, Leeds. The project saw the high-quality transformation of busy guest areas including the Bar & Restaurant, Lounge, Entrance Foyer and External Terrace.

Sarah Turner - Senior General Manager at the hotel had this to say about the project:

‘Working with Peel’s from start to finish on our recent refurbishment project at the hotel was an absolute pleasure. Communication was excellent ahead of the works at pre-planning stage, during the works. We’re a very busy hotel which always makes projects like this quite challenging, but Peel’s were always willing to accommodate the business needs and communicate daily about their plans. They were very organised, with great regards for safety, and everyone onsite over the 16 weeks were very professional and incredibly friendly. BIG thank you from all of us!.’’

Peel’s, who were joined by their fellow group company J Lister's Electrical Ltd for completion of the electrical package, wish to thank Valor Hospitality and the professional team involved with the project, in particular, Sarah and the rest of the staff for the incredible understanding and support.

This exceptional project was completed on time and within budget for our client Valor.

Working alongside Gateshead Council and the Tyne & Wear Building Preservation Trust, MGM Construction Ltd’s heritage joinery team have recently completed replacing a number of deck boards to Dunston Staiths, a scheduled monument and Grade II listed structure located in Dunston, Gateshead. This important structure to area is a major industrial landmark in the Tyne corridor and is reputed to be the largest timber structure in Europe!

An amazing project to be involved in ❤️

As we wrap up this year’s apprenticeship campaign, we want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our 31 apprentices. Diversely spread across nine distinct subjects, they represent the commitment and potential of the next generation in the North East. Their unwavering dedication is evident, given that every apprentice opts to continue their journey within the Northern Bear group.

Their progress and growth is testament to the value of investing in young talent, and we’re excited about the future they’ll shape. Looking forward to more accomplishments and stories to share when we reconvene in Summer 2024.

Get ready to be inspired by the next generation of skilled workers! Our exciting journey of 'Investing in Northern England - Our apprentices has come to a close with a visit to Alcor Handling Solutions Limited, our top-notch materials handling business.

We were thrilled to meet Alex, a bright and ambitious apprentice engineer. Alex, pictured above with Alcor Managing Director Stuart,is set to begin his training at the prestigious F-Tec College in Swindon, where he will hone his skills and become a valuable asset to the company.

But that's not all - we were also delighted to meet Hannah, who is breaking barriers and paving the way for women in the construction industry's material and handling sector. Sarah, the Accounts Manager at Alcor, extended a warm welcome to Hannah, who is currently completing her business and accounting apprenticeship at Gateshead College.

Next week, we take a look at the upskilling of our current employees within the group companies.

Investment isn’t solely on new appointments, we invest in EVERYONE!

Jennings Roofing Ltd are reaching new heights with the introduction of three new apprentices.

In our penultimate apprenticeship post, we travel down to Leeds and Manchester to meet Eric (Contracts Director) and Harvie (Apprentice).

Harvie is halfway through his 1st year with training provider SIMIAN , excelling in both the theory and practical elements of slate & tiling.

Two more roofing apprentices (not pictured) will begin their journey studying at Leeds College of Building in September.

Next week, we return to Gateshead for our final apprenticeship post and visit Alcor Handling Solutions Ltd.

There were celebrations all round recently at Arcas Building Solutions Ltd. Apprentices Haider and Amelia have successfully completed their first year as trainee Quantity Surveyors and are now looking forward to starting their final year at Gateshead College.
Not to be outdone, Kia has now completed her Business Administration apprenticeship and is hoping to achieve a distinction for her final grade.
All three were congratulated by Arcas Building Solutions Ltd Building Solutions Managing Director , John Davies.

Having recently celebrated an incredible 30 years servicing the construction industry, Isoler Ltd continue to show their commitment to the future with the appointment of a new Apprentice QS, pictured here with Managing Director John Gilstin.
Always on the lookout for new talent, Isoler have also just hosted two work experience students (also pictured with John), who enjoyed their first taste of the industry, spending a very busy week with different teams across the business.

Next week we go to Arcas Building Solutions Ltd for the next instalment, visiting two of their QS apprentices.

As we continue our ‘Investing in Northern England’ campaign we turn to one of our construction specialists, MGM Construction Ltd.
Investing in the next generation of talent is hugely important to MGM and this is demonstrated by the recent recruitment of four new apprentices:
· An apprentice accountant pictured with Managing Director, Phil Burridge & Accounts Manager Nicole Nelson.
· A Stone Masonry apprentice pictured with Heritage Contracts Manager, Craig Jenkins & Mentor Andrew Richardson
· Two Joinery apprentices who are currently learning their trade on site, with our highly experienced team of joiners. (Not Pictured)

J Lister Electical Limited have always recognised that hiring an apprentice is a productive and effective way to grow talent and develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce. We are firm believers in aiding young people to gain hands on experience while learning a trade for life.
We currently employ eight apprentices at the company, some are just starting their journey and two have recently completed their time and are continuing their employment with us as qualified electricians.

What a project to be involved in - Well done the Joinery Division of Isoler Ltd.

An exciting project for MGM Ltd which includes the redevelopment of a warehouse into a multi-functional space, incorporating retail and hospitality with a brand-new roof terrace! MGM have also provided solid hoardings and engaged with local graffiti artists to provide them a space to replicate their work on the original buildings.
