HADAWAY HARRY - 10th Anniversary Tour
Written by Ed Waugh
Starring Jamie Brown
Ten years since this show first stormed stages across the North East and London – winning actor Jamie Brown the accolade of ‘performing artist of the year’ at the North East Culture Awards – Hadaway Harry is back. Before Association Football, rowing was the sport of the people…and Harry Clasper was David Beckham.
Hadaway Harry is an incredible true story charting the rise of Victorian sporting superstar Harry Clasper—from working-class pitman in Jarrow, to multiple Rowing Champion of the World. Harry was rightly crowned King of the Thames and the Tyne, ‘The Blaydon Races’ was written for him, and later 130,000 people would attend his funeral.Weaving a socio-political, historical trail with high-octane story-telling and puppetry, this one-man presentation has garnered standing ovations across the country and is frequently branded a ‘tour-de-force’ – not least due to an arduous second act showdown that has become something of North East theatre folklore.
“You are so gripped and enthralled, and Jamie is breathless at the end - as are the entire audience.”
Ian Payne, ITV News
“Five Stars. A breathtaking one-man tour-de-force."
The Chronicle
“Five Stars. Wonderful...a virtuoso performance.”

We are pleased to announce that Seventeen Nineteen has been granted an extension by the National lottery heritage fund until March 2025. While the funded activity programme is complete, the extension will be focused on developing an operating model for April 2025 onwards. The Centre Manager and Caretaker will remain with the project until the end of the grant delivering a much reduced offer, maintaining key relationships with volunteers, community groups, and partners.
The building, now carefully restored, may well stand for another 300 years, but not without love and attention from people who use it. Seventeen Nineteen are working hard to integrate Holy Trinity back into the fabric of the city through business partnership initiatives, community volunteering opportunities and high-quality events. Whilst congregations, caretakers and custodians may come and go, the key to lasting resilience is in inspiring the community to call it their own.
