We're back! Happy 2024, hope you've enjoyed the break as much as I have.
Time to get back to business but don't worry, you won't be looking like this at the end of your first personal training session back.
Going back hard core is counter productive- having the dreaded DOMs for days on end will stress out your nervous system, stop further activity and potentially cause muscle tension and injuries.
Instead we are easing back in with some cardio on the spin bike and some resistance band training. Don't worry, you'll still get a great workout as always!

It's that time of year... The Christmas coffees are out! I'm partial to a gingerbread latte as a treat, but with around 350 calories, a few of these a week can add up to weight gain quickly. If you drank one of these each day in December you would put on 3lbs π±
So here's my sneaky tip; Simply add a ginger tea bag to your homemade or takeaway coffee. All the taste with out the guilt ππ²

As the colder, darker nights draw in, it's very tempting so snuggle up & order a takeaway. But try this healthier calzone takeaway! Take a wrap, load with your favourite pizza toppings then fold over. I added an egg for extra protein which oozed out perfectly! Secure the edges with a fork or a crimpet tool. Then bake in an air fryer or the oven. Simple, delicious, nutritious and cheaper than a takeaway- win win!
Eating foods high in volume but low in calories is a great way to feel full while losing weight. Adding protein to your plate at each meal and choosing complex carbs which are high in fiber will leave you feeling fuller for longer, helping you to avoid snacking between meals.
This whole plate comes in at just 333 calories with 34g of protein, 27g of carbohydrates and just 8g of fat. Quick & easy too π
Huge well done to Gurdeep Chhina for her commitment and consistency, which are key to achieving any fitness, strength and weight loss goals. In just 6 months, this new mum has hit her weight goal losing an impressive 25.8 lbs (1 1/2 stone or 11.7 KG), fixed her diastasis recti (abdominal gap caused by pregnancy), reduced her body fat by 5.6% and increased her skeletal muscle mass by 3% which is important in helping to prevent osteoporosis. She has also increased her strength steadily and is now lifting weights she never thought would be possible. Go girl- very proud of you!

So proud of this first time mum. She consistently pushes to achieve new goals, works through the new baby exhaustion and always has a smile on her face. Gurdeep has been consistent with the rehab for her diastasis recti (abdominal separation) which has almost healed. With nutritional advice and support she's also lost over a stone in 4 months, losing it steadily so she has enough food to fuel her though busy mum days.

Welcome to the Absolute Fitness family baby Freddie! Mummy, Gosia, trained throughout her pregnancy to prepare her body for change and be ready for labour and the physical and mental challenges of being a new mum. Gosia also enjoyed some pregnancy massages to alleviate back and hip pain, reduce nausea and swelling and increase relaxation. I'm so proud of this amazing lady and can't wait to meet up for a coffee to see how's she doing and meet her gorgeous baby boy. Congratulations!

Ever heard of NEAT? Non-exercise activity thermogenesis is the calories you burn doing daily activities not from exercise. This can include cleaning, gardening, shopping, cooking and playing with your children. Doing more of these activities can make a huge difference to weight loss, especially if you are struggling to fit in structured exercise. Check out my calorie burn from a day cleaning, gardening and meal prepping- I didn't need to do a workout!

Monday Meal Motivation; Beef Tacos for 4
Fry 400g lean beef mince, or quorn, until browned. Meanwhile, make the salsa by finely chopping 4 tomatoes, 1 crushed clove of garlic & juice of 1 lime. Mix & set aside. Add to the beef 1/2 finely diced red onion, 1/2 cup of sweetcorn & chilli to taste. Season well & cook for another 5 minutes. Then serve the mixture between corn taco shells, add 1 tbsp salsa to top & sprinkle with light cheese.
